I am following the whole being a conductor and if you use it too far that it will cause damage. I was thinking more of the lines of what happed to Arn at the beginning and keeps on happening when he uses magic too much. which is he damaged himself due to lack of control and exertion. I feel that if the magic is too powerful or if you have reached the limit of what your body can handle then you cause physical damage.

fire=burns
Ice=frost bite
telekinesis= concussion damage

so sort of like what you are saying. I feel like some sort of spiritual exhaustion should also be in order. After all, you are utilizing your connection to Gia. That could be the first warning, Second could be gradually increasing pain and finally physical damage. This would follow the same for Ki users I think because though enhanced, their bodies are still just flesh and blood.

Also, I am assuming mages could increase the amount of spells cast or the spell power over time? How would that work? Also, could they learn new spells? I am assuming the Big Bad ass mage that destroyed the world was not always that powerful or the power that you are born with is that it?

@Omni5876@TheMerlin I assume so, though wouldn't that also depend on one's own use of magic or ki? Or one's progress throughout the story?
Thinking in more realistic terms, athletes would push themselves to get better, soldiers as well. I don't see how mages or knights would be any different in this regard.

I was thinking the exact same thing. True there are some even IRL who are more apt or gifted for something but that does not mean one can not try. I am assuming the great mage was just more deeply connected to the world.

I think Arn is just good with elemental magic because he understand the science behind it and utilizes the Aether as the catalyst for such a reaction. I am assuming that the weather magicians do the same. Arn would never be able to summon up a storm but he knows enough to create wind and water.

Thanks for the discussion, this sort of world building satisfies my nerdish musings

[@Omni7658]Reminds me of the anime movie Jin-roh. A brilliant but twisted take on the Red Riding Hood tale, like a true germanic/nordic folkstory going: "Going down the path of pins or the paths of needles..." Loved that line.

You could say you have more affinity for a particular type of magic, it might be determined by one's own inward desires and will.
Like with Arn it is all Elemental; which could be considered as wild forces, his need 'to gain control over certain aspects in his life' like the situation with his mother might have lead to him needing to unleash his own anger and need for control through magic. Or at least that's the impression I get from him. It could also be, why he isn't particularly emotive or tends to hide his emotions.

Whilst with Eilis it is quite the opposite, in her early years she wanted to help, to literally lend a hand. Hers were a creation of good intentions or humble intentions, however when they wanted her to 'harm people' with it she withdrew, seeing the negative side to her own powers. So whenever she uses her magic now especially with the binds she does so reluctantly and with a great deal of fear driving her.
Which is why when 'shit will hit the fan' it will be all the harder for her to stop, for fear is a powerful motivator.

Bit of an incomplete post but it'll have to do for now. I'll add in Leo and Nena's perspectives tomorrow.

@deia876lat I actually think that might be the movie they are from now that you mention it lol. Anyways, I was actually wondering the societal mental state of the Viemese. Are they like hydra minded or more like Nazi Germany where they fought for patriotism rather than belief that theirs is the right to rule?

Also, it makes sense regarding the affinity. I guess that your soul would naturally cast the type of magic that your Will prefers. Makes sense that Arn would seek to control a world that had culminated with the death of his mother. Science, is a sort of no feelings sort of art but one that is full of wonder depending on perspective.

His manipulation of the Aether is very calculated but the things he is able to accomplish would seem flashy or even artistic to any onlooker.

How did Tyrhallan learn sword fighting? A school or tutor? I am assuming that it was sort of like Aria Stark with the best swordsman in the form be the personal tutor no?

@omni5876 What do you mean with Hydra minded? (or are you meaning hive minded? Sorry to ask, but I had an exhausting day today so my brain needs some time to recover...)

@deia876lat I meant as in "hail, Hydra" kind of mentality. meaning they want to conquer everyone and are like basically willing to comit hideous acts to do so.

@deia876lat I figured I should leave Arn a few options. You flying out of there is another one. You can definitely snatch me out of mid air. Or is the barge still working after Ellis helped out?

Hey @deia876lat, is it all right if I move Ellis around a bit in my post? Given that she's unconscious and all. I'll edit my post if there's anything you don't like.

Also, I should probably mention that I'm starting to get a little burnt out, so after my next post I think I'll take a week long break to update the lore, catch up on any questions I might have missed and maybe put up a new interest check thread. Everyone cool with that?

Thanks and I just want to say, I'm really glad you and @Omni5876 joined my roleplay in the first place. It's been more fun and exciting than I ever hoped it would be, and I hope it continues to be in the future. I'm honestly just really grateful that this whole thing even took off at all, so thank you both sincerely.
