Once upon a time, there was a kingdom that was supposed to be the wealthiest and most powerful of them all. This kingdom was known as the Trodretis Empire. They had rare gems that were sought after. They had powerful herbs and medicines as far as the eye could see. Their flowers were extremely beautiful and desired.
This kingdom was ruled by a king and his wife, his queen consort, who did not really have much power herself, but he let her speak her mind and accepted her help with certain matters when it was offered. This king loved his wife dearly, and she loved him just as much. The kingdom was happy and prosperous thanks to the leadership of this king and such.
However, his happiness did not last, as a decade after they married, five years after their daughter and only child was born, the queen consort passed away from illness and left behind her family and her kingdom. Sadness reigned in the air for many a year after the loss.
The years passed.....
The princess was now of marrying age. She had just turned 18 not too many days before. However, she refused to decide on a suitor and was quite hesitant to marry, as she felt she would loose power. She wanted to be a queen who ruled alone, under no one.
The king, now quite ill himself, grew more and more frustrated with each passing day. He kept insisting, and she kept refusing. People grew very worried. Things were not going as planned, and it was feared the throne would be empty after the king was no longer amongst them, as he threatened to strip his own daughter of her right of succession, and her title, if she continued to refuse.
One day, though, the king simply decided that enough was enough. He took matters into his own hands. His decision would make the princess quite upset, especially with him.
He decided to choose for her. He would hold a tournament to decide who would have her hand in marriage, who would become the next king. This man would be the new prince consort, a potential king in the making if you will. To the princess, this was basically an arranged marriage, which she was highly against. However, she had no choice, and no say in the matter. What is done was done.
The tournament would be held on the kingdoms' anniversary. There would be three rounds to determine strength, skills, and wisdom. The winner would be determined by those and those alone.
And so, the fate of the kingdom was about to be determined.....
