Trivia: William fights in a unique way with his bow. In close quarters like a club/staff. (Think Green Arrow) Because of the reinforcements made to the bow, it’s strong enough to Block/deflect sword strikes. Without losing its shape. But not to an axe or heavier weapons. Only his master and he use this style. It's not at all common in the woodsman group.
William feels more at ease inside a forest alone than in a town full of people. While he has no problem working in a town or city, and talking to people, which his duties often require. Nothing beats living in the forest. Even if he doesn’t have a roof over his head.
Biography: William grew up in an orphanage in the castle town of Daldun. He never knew his real parents, as he was just dropped off as a child. Thus his name was just William. He was lucky enough to be in an orphanage where the caretakers actually tried their best to take care of the children. But often would have barely enough food for them. So William tried his best to ‘work’ for more money to help out. Though, the caregivers did not realize this ‘work’ was actually stealing…
He was always smart enough to only give enough for a full day's work for odd jobs. As for the rest, he would save and ‘donate’ it by leaving it anonymously on the doorstep, or some other way. This lasted a few years, getting better and better at pickpocketing, and smarter to only target those he noted were travelers.
However, When he was 10, he decided to pick the wrong pocket. A smaller man who wore a dull cloak that looked like it was used for years. But he had a fair amount of supplies and gear on his horse that looked fresh and well kept. So he picked his pocket, without any issues. That is until a few hours later when the man showed up at the orphanage asking to speak with William.
Surprisingly, the man knew he was robbed only a few moments after it happened. Even more Surprisingly, he didn't come to punish the boy, rather, to give him an opportunity. The man was Impressed with the skill of the pick, and how easily he disappeared into a crowd with an untrained eye, he decided to follow him. He was Impressed more to see where he brought the money to, or the purpose behind it.. He offered William an apprenticeship as a woodsman. A place where he could hone those skills he already learned to help the kingdom.
The woodsmen were a group of spies loyal to the king, With usually one in each fiefdom and pairs that worked together outside of the kingdom. Known for their mastery of the bow, and thought to use black magic to become invisible or materialize out of trees and buildings. (this is just a rumor.)
William took the offer, as the cloaked man's other offer was exposing his antics to his caregivers if he didn’t agree. Immediately he began training, and moved in with the man in the forest. Besides learning how to perfect his thieving skills, and the art of disappearing and staying hidden. He was taught to shoot a bow, read and write, and learn his master's unique hand to hand fighting style. As well as being observant of his surroundings and learning how to read people. Then to do all the chores in the cabin. As well as going on missions with his master.
This lasted for six years, when the kingdom fell into war. He and his Master were in the capital when the Empire started to lay siege to the town. With how quickly the kingdom fell to the onslaught, his master and the head of the Woodsman devised a plan to get the royal family out. However, the king refused to run with his family.
While the Captain of the guard brought the Royal family out of the castle, he met up with the head of the Woodsman, William, and his master, who told the Queen, prince and Princess to change into some commoners clothes, then to follow William out of the castle grounds through some secret passages. While William did so, his master and the Woodsman's master used the clothes to dress up a few unfortunate civilians who had died during early days of the siege. Then used a carriage escape and a few brave knights to Make a grand exit to catch the attention of the enemy soldiers.
Their ruse successful, they managed to escape the castle town, however a few fire arrows had lodged into the carriage, the Woodsman Master was shot fatally, but he managed to turn the carriage over a cliff. As was their intention. Making the burning wreckage harder to get to from the soldiers who would have to confirm the dead bodies of the royal family. The carriage would have been engulfed in flames long before that. The few surviving knights and Williams master manage to make their escape.
William and the Royal family managed to get out. With them escaping from the opposite side of town where the wall breach was. The young woodsman dispatched a few enemy soldiers that they did run across quite quickly with his bow. And sneaked past the ring of soldiers that surrounded the city for the siege with some distraction using less known paths in the forest.
When William’s master met up with them, they continued on to finding a hiding place for the queen and her children. This will last for a few years, never staying in a single place too long, while living in secluded areas. Slowly building up the kingdom's resistance. William during this time had become close with the Prince and and Princess, due to their close age and what they had been through.
Now, five years later… William still stays close to the prince and princess, acting as a bodyguard, while also being a full fledged Woodsman three years before. Meaning he would go out on some missions, but normally close by. His main focus is keeping the princess Safe from any would be assassins.
