Everyone sucks, some less than others.

Name: Denise Covington 

Gender: Female

Position Applying For: New resident in town

Personality: Spunky and impulsive with a bit of an attitude problem. Denise in the unapologetic type who doesn't play well with an authority figures when she senses even an ounce of arrogance or abuse of power. She's a social butterfly and a thrill-seeker, her stunts landing her in the hospital every now and then with a contusion or a broken bone. Even though she enjoys nature, Denise is not the type to go camping. Instead, she can be found at an 18+ club with one of her fake IDs flirting with a guy in his early 20s...but that doesn't mean she'll go home with him. She's trouble, but with a good head on her shoulders she's avoided numerous messy situations which could have gone south in a heartbeat.   

History/Bio: Born and raised in New York City, Denise has had quite a life. Her parents are well off given that her grandfather was filthy rich. She attended private schools, practically had everything she wanted, and traveling was a regular perk in her life. Despite all the benefits that came with the wealth, deep down, Denise always felt a bit lonely. She was an only child and her parents were more often at work than at home, leaving her with nannies who despite doing the best they could to make the house feel like a home, they couldn't fill that empty void.

But Denise got used to it, eventually. When she became a teenager, she made friends with the wrong crowd. They brought excitement into her life, and she loved it. Her parents weren't around to keep her in check and so she'd often get into trouble with the law. But she didn't care, and neither did her friends. She didn't know they were using her for her money because unlike the rest of them, she still had somewhat of a conscience. This one time, Denise overheard one of her friends venting to someone else about her. She learned the truth, and shut them out completely. It wasn't long after that that Denise's parents came to her with bad news. Her grandmother was extremely ill and so the family would take a trip to her town to make any necessary final arrangements. Denise was happy to see her aunt again as well as her grandmother, and given the betrayal she'd experienced from those she thought were her friends, she convinced her parents to let her live with her relatives for a year or so to get away from it all for a while.

Elijah 'Eli' Redgrave

Y'know Redgraves have been in Westcliffe almost as long as the DeWinters, but no one gives a shit cos we're poor now.

Name: Elijah 'Eli' Redgrave 

Gender: Male

Sexual Orientation: He's not really figured that out yet. 

Character Role: Tragic Backstory

Personality: The public persona of Eli Redgrave is that of the mischievous wayward youth. In the single class that makes up the town's school he has reputation as being both a slacker and a joker. When he can be bothered to attend his classes, Eli has a proclivity towards playing practical jokes and readily shows off his wry and sarcastic brand of humour. Despite being something of a class clown, he is by no means stupid, far from it in fact. His teachers think he would have excellent grades if he were only to apply himself. 

His carelessness manifests itself in his appearance too. His dark hair is a messy, unkempt mop that seldom sees a brush or comb. His plaid cotton shirts are often torn and his stonewashed jeans are faded. He often bears scratches on his face and bruises on his arms from spending time messing around in woods out by the old town dump. There's an old rusted out campervan there that Eli has turned into a sort of den. Eli spends a lot of time there, either by himself or with his close knit group of friends. He is generally a sociable person, preferring to hang out with friends than to spend time at home. In fact he tries to spend as little time at home as possible.

But there's a darkness that hangs over Eli. A kind of solitary loneliness that marks him out from many of his peers. He doesn't like to speak of it, he doesn't like to even acknowledge it, but its there. Everyone in the town knows his history, knows what happened to his family. Bad things happen to Redgraves, and no one would be surprised if something bad happened Eli. Least of all himself.

History: The Redgraves are one of the old families of Westcliffe, recently fallen on much harder times. They settled in the area not long after the DeWinters and were originally land owning gentlemen farmers of a sort. Originally the two families were very close to one another, with the two of the intermarrying several times over the course of the 19th century. However, this was not to last. 

The Redgraves and the DeWinters had something of a very public falling out in the 1890s in what would come to be known locally as the Westcliffe Silver Wars. It started when the Redgraves became interested in mineral prospecting around the town. They surreptitiously sought to buy out local landowners with the intent to open a silver mine and turn Westcliffe into a mining rush town like Leadville or Cripple Creek. Many of Westcliffe's residents were violently opposed to the idea, chief amongst them the DeWinters. 

During the development of the mine there was numerous violent classes and even a few murders between the DeWinter and Redgrave clans and their associated supporters. For a while it seemed like the Redgraves won when silver started to come up out of the mine and they had the money to hire guns and guards. They quickly used their newfound wealth to build themselves a large manor house overlooking the town, which was deliberately made to he larger and more grandiose than that of the DeWinters. 

But it was the DeWinters who had the last laugh. A series of mysterious accidents plagued the mineworks, including a tunnel collapse that killed many of the workers. When the damage was repaired and shafts sunk once more at considerable cost to the Redgraves, the seam was found to suddenly and inexplicably end. It ruined the Redgrave family. The cost of the rebuilding the mines and constructing their lavish home had largely be financed through credit and they lost everything to the bank in coming years. The palatial manor overlooking Westcliffe went derelict and was burned to ground by vandals just after the turn of the century.

But the Redgraves stayed in Westcliffe, a few of them can be found living down in the town itself, but Eli's family are what is left of the main branch, living in an old dilapidated colonial farmhouse on a corner of what had once been the vast Redgrave estate. Back when his grandparents were alive, it was still a working farm, but by the time Eli was born most of the remaining land had been sold off other than a few acres of stony scrub pasture and tangled woodland. 

His father had worked as a mechanic, using the old barn as his workshop, his mother a home maker. He and his older brother, Alex, grew up poor, but happy enough. As a child Eli had never noticed the bitterness, the resentment, which still characterised much of his father's family's feelings about Westcliffe and the DeWinters. It went straight over his head. The town was Eli's world, and he had everything he needed there, everything a curious and outdoor loving child could wish for. 

His own feelings towards Westcliffe would become more complicated following the deaths of both his parents.

Eli was around eleven when it happened, on the night of the Halloween festival. His parents had been driving over the mountain, they had gone to see a lawyer in the next town over, and were returning for the festival. There had been something wrong with the breaks on his father's truck and it had gone crashing through a guard rail on one of the switchback turns. The car had plummeted into the ravine below,  and was only by the police next morning when the Redgrave children reported their parents missing. 

They told Eli and Alex it had been quick, they had both died instantly. 

After that their uncle came to live with them, but he was away a lot, so it mostly Alex looking after Eli. Alex was only two years older than him, but Eli came to rely on his older brother a lot  in those first few years after the death of their parents. Later he wondered if he had relied on him too much. It couldn't have been easy on both of them, living in the same house, with all those ghosts. And then there were all the rumours and whispers about the curse. 

The townspeople said it was the curse of the DeWinters, a magical spell punishing their old enemies once again. When their uncle was around and not passed out drunk he told them the same. Sometimes Eli felt it when he went into Westcliffe, everyone looking at him, everyone whispering behind his back: 'Watch out there goes one of those cursed Redgrave boys, don't get too close in case it rubs off on you too.' He wondered now that he was older, what it had been like for Alex? 

Had it been worse somehow?

Alex disappeared when Eli turned fourteen. The police said he was a runaway, their uncle didn't really care what had happened to him. And then Eli learned how to live on his own. It was about this time that he started to act out more, skip school and get in some minor trouble in town. Eli wants to leave Westcliffe now, when he's old enough. He wants to find his brother. He hopes that Alex did leave and he's living a better life somewhere out there, but he's not too sure. 

Why is that?

Alex disappeared on the night of the Halloween Festival.

	Emily is talkative. A chatterbox. When there's no one around to talk too, she talks to herself. Or she'll just talk to herself right in front of someone else if the other person isn't being receptive. It's an unbreakable habit. She'll talk about literally anything for way too long.

	An extrovert, she likes making new friends, even if she can be bad at it. She's genuinely a friendly person with a compassionate heart. If anything she can come off as too friendly, too quickly, having declared best friendship on multiple occasions. A quirky sense of humor does or doesn't help. Either way, Emily gets attached to people and concepts very quickly. This leads to her being overemotional in certain situations and extremely attached to the fictional characters of the fictional books she loves reading.

	 Emily is also extremely curious, and she loves to learn about people, events, anything. It's why she wants to be a journalist and historian for the Westcliffe newspaper. Or a librarian. She's trying to put her words down onto paper, where they won't be forgotten. And also where they won't annoy people so much.

	Despite being quite intelligent, Emily is also dumb. The difference between "book smart" and "street smart" has never been so obvious. Common sense is something she lacks entirely. Usually this results in an entirely unwarranted self-confidence. Perhaps it's just her unyielding optimism. Emily only has uncommon sense. Weird sense. Highly specific and rarely applicable sense. And fiscal sense- too: she's good with money.

History/Bio:

	Emily was born to Dave and Sarah Dawson. She's the youngest of two brothers and one other sister, all only a few years older than her. Dave, June, Mark, and then Emily, from oldest to younges.t One might think this fairly large family is the reason she's so talkative. Perhaps in order to get a word in edgewise she developed this tick? Nope. If anything, she's the reason people get talked over. Some part of her brain had it's wires crossed during development.

	Emily still grew up loved in her house, and she often ended up being the mediator of family conflicts. Her brothers and sister often picked on each other but they quickly decided she was off limits. She was far too easy of a target and they all just ended up feeling bad about it. 

	Emily took an interest in reading, writing, and exploring. Much to her parents chagrin she would head off into the woods by herself to climb around. That, or diving into the library to learn so many useless factsshe could fill the "dead spaces" in conversations with. Eventually she tried developing a few ideas of her own.

	Given her athletic nature she ended up founding a cheerleading club. As of today she is the only member, but she got the uniforms designed and everything. She also founded the Crown of Dragons club and the Journalism club, for her favorite book series and one of her favorite hobbies. She's the only member in both of those, too. 

	Most everyone around town knows about Emily and her strange proclivities. She has no real close friends, but it's not like she's entirely disliked. People just decided she was harmless. She has acquaintances galore, which is good enough for her. But a real best friend is what she really wants. That, or a boyfriend, or a girlfriend. Emily doesn't quite yet realise she's asexual and doesn't understand why some of her classmates kiss each other so much, but it seems like the thing to do so she's been attempting to emulate. 

	She graduates soon and she'll have to find a job. That'll mean doing a job interview, which she's sure she'll nail the fourth or fifth or eleventh time she tries it. Or maybe she'll just make up her own job? She doesn't really know.

A class clown and a totally rebel in town, Alex Ruiz is a whole package! He rather spends his day skipping class and being a troublemaker at town, painting graffiti and stuff. Alex also have laid-back and nonchalant personality with a mix of sarcastic but a friendly attitude toward others and is not afraid to thrown a punch if his temper gets in the way.
History/Bio: 
Ben Ruiz and his sister, Luna Ruiz, was born and raised in small neighborhood around Texas with their mother and father and all four of them have a pretty normal life. With Luna being a good child to his parents and being a good student towards the teachers, it didn't take long for Ben to get into a bad crowd, you know, doing bad things, getting into detention, just being a bad kid and stuff.

That all change however, when Ben and Luna father and mother starting to feel neighborhood is getting too dangerous, so they think it for the best if all of them to move out of neighborhood and find a safe and peaceful town, a town called Westcliffe. While Luna is ready to get out of that neighborhood, Ben however wasn't, sure that neighborhood wasn't perfect but it was his home, he have friends and memories there, he wasn't ready to say goodbye to his old life.

It been years after the Ruiz move into Westcliffe, Ben still act like the bad kid back from his neighborhood, still walk in the bad crowd, still doing bad things like getting into fights, painting graffiti and skipping class and getting into detention, he wants everyone in town to know that he is a troublemaker....But little does Ben know, that trouble is brewing behind him in town, during the night of the Halloween festival.

⊱ Her peers often discount Vi, though adults find it easier to see through her sweet demeanor. She doesn’t seem like a viper lying in the grass, but rather a rich girl who has more of a passion for fashion than witchcraft or murder. However, most adults won’t be fooled. Mostly because they can’t fall under her spell, metaphorically speaking.

⊱ No one could ever say that Violet isn’t passionate, almost to the point of headstrongness, but it’s to her benefit. She believes in being the mastermind of one's own success, and she won't let anyone "get in [her] fucking way." 

⊱ Despite her seeming conservativeness, mostly due to the whole “being an heiress” thing, Violet is quite the feminist. She’s often quoting Simone de Beauvoir, Anne Brontё, and Audra Lorde. Vi wants the world in the palm of her hand, and she’ll be damned if anyone stands in her way. B̶u̶t̶ ̶s̶h̶e̶ ̶c̶o̶u̶l̶d̶n̶'t̶ ̶b̶e̶ ̶t̶h̶a̶t̶ ̶v̶i̶c̶i̶o̶u̶s̶…Some would call this excessive or her way to success manipulative, but she’d call it necessary. Of course, she keeps the truly evil-seeming parts of her passion held beyond the shiny exterior of bubble-gum smacks and Crest white-strip smiles.

⊱ V shows people how she feels through actions. She’s incredibly good at giving a hug when she senses people need it. She’s loyal, but this doesn’t happen easily, which is why she holds grudges so easily. There’s a lot she expects out of those she loves, barring perhaps her father, but she gives back just as much, if not more. The years of ostracization got to her, making her incredibly distrusting of adults but longing for youthful friendship. Because of this, she’s quite the conversationalist, and she used to do Debate in middle school. Vi can squeeze in two hundred words a minute and somehow she makes sense.

⊱ Easily jealous, Violet gets attached quite easily. This can be a good thing since it shows her undying loyalty to those she loves, but it tends to get her in trouble more than anything. With her inability to move on from something peacefully, her many flirtationships often end in the boys mysteriously being replaced by pigs or disappearing during the Fall Festival. Her friendships also have the capacity to suffer too.

⊱ V tends to get a little carried away with her ambition, especially when it comes to human interaction. Half of the conversations people have with the social butterfly usually are only happening because she’s working an angle. Whether it’s for gossip, a hookup, notes, or… other things..., Violet has certain magic around her that allows her to get away with it- for the most part. She lost countless friends over the years because of this, but she finally got the balance right for high school. According to her, Vi doesn’t even realize she’s doing it until the person has already left. She just wants to be in control. All. The. Time. And God bless anyone who doesn’t give it to her.

⊱ As a massive flirt, she’s always got some guy on the tip of her finger. She didn’t use to be this way, but something about being a cheerleader and participating in theater empowered her. Made her bold. It was as though the siren-like effect she has on people amped up a notch, and she knew how to use it for once. Perhaps it was the fact that all eyes were on her that made her brave enough to tempt boys. Instead of repelling her classmates, she started to attract them. Made her desirable. Or something like that. It isn’t as though she tries , though. She just ends up making out with one dude after talking to him for a total of ten minutes. Without. Even. Trying. Hell, half the time she can’t even recall the conversation they had. She just knows it wasn’t memorable enough to stick with him for the long haul. O̶r̶ ̶m̶a̶y̶b̶e̶ ̶i̶t̶'s̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶ ̶n̶o̶t̶-s̶o̶-s̶u̶b̶t̶l̶e̶ ̶c̶o̶m̶m̶i̶t̶m̶e̶n̶t̶ ̶i̶s̶s̶u̶e̶s̶. Or the fear of rejection. Maybe add a dash of fear of how getting attached to someone might turn out. Who knows!

⊱ V easily lies to herself about her motivations and her strengths. To some extent, she doesn’t fully understand her capacity her narcissistic tendencies. However, there’s the other part of her that pretends these blatant flaws don’t exist when she’s fully aware of them. Thankfully, not everyone has completely caught on to how self-aware she is, at least everyone who isn’t above the age of 25 or else she’d be friendless. They just assume she’s a spoiled rich girl.

⊱ Managing a full schedule, starring in play after play, practicing daily with the cheer squad, and m̶a̶k̶i̶n̶g̶ ̶h̶e̶r̶s̶e̶l̶f̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶ ̶l̶e̶a̶d̶e̶r̶ ̶o̶f̶ ̶e̶v̶e̶r̶y̶t̶h̶i̶n̶g̶  has its tolls, but Violet is always full of energy. She’s actually an insomniac, scoping out the DeWinter estate grounds well past midnight for no reason. She’s often caught sitting in front of the 100-year-old oak on the edge of the woods. Hilda, her maid and former nanny, used to fetch her and force her back to bed, but eventually, V’s father just told Hilda to leave her be. Something about the tree, the way it makes her feel like a rapid river draining into her heart with every beat, won’t allow her to rest. Or think straight. Somedays, it follows her throughout the day, but that’s usually only when something bad happens in Westcliffe. The lack of sleep, however, is also the source of the numerous blonde moments she has (perhaps another reason why people don’t see her as calculating as she actually is).

⊱ Violet has an insatiable lust for power and the ability to lead. She believes she wouldn’t be abusive (just a little convincing to “get things done!”), and she could be the difference between a mediocre show/routine and a memorable one. Everyone either underestimates her or fears her, especially her father.

⊱ With her insomnia comes the impulsive bravery! Vi is unafraid of the dark, spiders, knives, murders, the Boogey-man, you name it. She’s pretty immune to it all! She believes in them all (including the Boogey-man. Don’t laugh!), but she’s confident in her ability to fight them off. Besides- it never seems to effect her anyways.

══════ 𝐁𝐀𝐂𝐊𝐆𝐑𝐎𝐔𝐍𝐃 ══════

⊱ Given her family history and reputation, Violet is no stranger to wealth and wacky parenting. Especially since her dad inherited millions after her mother died in front of her dad when Vi was only six (No one except Violet, her dad, and the priest came to the funeral- if you were wondering). Because of this, her father was distant for most of her childhood, letting Hilda raise her. On the rare moments where Mr. DeWinter wanted to parent Violet, it was always strained. Her father flinched every time she moved. 

⊱ As Violet got older, her father grew more distasteful of her. She was never going to live up to the standards Mr. DeWinter held her to. Around this time, their relationship turned heated, resulting in fights where Violet took the brunt of her father's wrath. At one point, he yelled at her about how if she hadn’t been born, her mother wouldn’t have died. Although he has never physically harmed her, his shouts and accusations were enough to deal with on top of the loneliness that followed her from elementary to middle school.

⊱ Violet spent the next years growing up far before her time. Her father saw her mother in Vi, but she never understood this. She just knew there was something unholy about her, at least that’s what her father made her believe. It didn’t help that her few friends seemed to drop like flies, leaving her once they overheard their parents discuss the truer nature of her mother’s death. Violet was the wrong thing in the equation. The aberration. The stranger.

⊱ Things got worse when Vi’s one ex from 7th grade woke up the morning after he broke her heart to find his body trapped in a smelly, pink pig. Unfortunately, he became sausage. Everyone assumes Jason ran away during the Fall Festival, but Violet always suspected that the pig was him. Something about his squeals as they carried him out of Jason’s room. It almost sounded like Jason’s.

⊱ And let’s not talk about the girl on the swimming team who appeared from the waters at a meet with a full head of snakes for hair. People never connected it to her, but they didn’t know about their brief tryst during 8th grade. Even Vi isn’t sure if it was her, except for a recollection of breaking into the school the night before, traversing the border of the pool, and tossing a pig’s heart into it. Hilda told her that she must’ve sleepwalked off of the property, only making her suspicion stronger. 

⊱ Once she graduated 8th grade, things began to turn up for Violet. She started to find her place in high school, and people began to form their own opinions about her instead of listening to their parents about how the DeWinters were supposed to be avoided. High school drama, gossip, theater, cheerleading- all of it became a nice reprieve from her father, who was more involved in her life with her mother out of the picture. Since her time there, her father has never visited her.

⊱ It was around this time that Violet joined extra-curricular activities and came out of her shell. She found her place, so to speak. She has aspirations of becoming an award-winning, Broadway actress, but she'll settle for the Dallas Cowboys. She's known for her leadership qualities, given she's a total Rachel Berry and insists on heading up everything from the arrangement of the flyers to the score of the next musical. There's little she won't put herself as the front-woman of, and most of the time she's successful 

⊱ It seemed that Vi’s family reputation didn’t stop people from being 𝒶𝓉𝓉𝓇𝒶𝒸𝓉𝑒𝒹 to Violet. There was always something irresistible about her, the same with her mother. It runs in the family. It seemed that people would always want to talk to Violet, they just didn’t want to know Vi beyond a conversation or two that satisfied their curiosity. This just worsened in the coming years as she grew older, but at least it came more out of her high school status and less out of her family name.

⊱ Though she isn’t exactly aware of her abilities, she knows, like most things concerning the DeWinters of Westcliffe, there’s something off about her. She hasn’t slept through the night in almost six years. Something keeps her awake at night; a feeling of constant adrenaline pushing her to explore the forest late at night when no one’s awake. To steal a pot from the kitchen, start a bonfire, roast some herbs, dance amongst the trees, and speak an ancient language she doesn't recall learning.

⊱ Despite Violet’s insistence that she’s a normal, Christian girl, she’s finding it more and more difficult with each passing school Fall Festival to deny that a little bit of the Devil’s spirit lies within her.

⊱ Everything concerning Jason and the girl from the swim team is a well-kept secret by Violet. Except maybe she let a few things slip to people when she gets a little too tipsy from her favorite wine coolers.

⊱ Once a month, Violet has night terrors. Hilda knows, but thankfully she’s never said anything to her father. She’d never hear the end of it, she fears.

⊱ She’s bisexual, and Swim Team Girl outed her to her father. It’s something that caused the burn scars on her back, the ones right in the center, where her father burned his cigar through her favorite blouse (something she will probably never explain or admit her father did to her). Violet had kissed Swim Team Girl (who’s actually named Jennifer, but she refuses to ever speak her name again) a few days before, and she’d worn her poppy-printed, peasant blouse with the tassels she’d just watched a YouTube video to figure out how to do. She’d sewn it herself. Coming home from school, Violet was met with her father’s sullenness. He’d gotten a call from Jennifer’s mother. The rest you can piece together from there.

⊱ Given all of that, she’s never kissed a girl since and, quite frankly, she’s terrified to. Even though she looks at plenty of girls with bountiful affection, Violet knows better than to trust herself. Or anyone else.

⊱ She owns a bible, which allows many people to assume she’s Christian. Really, she’s agnostic given all that’s happened to her. However, she’s kind of earned her branding as the cliché.

⊱ As a short, seemingly flexible girl who wants to be at the top of everything, many of the Cheer girls were surprised when Violet took her placement as a base with zero protest. She got quite a few shocked faces which is exactly why she did it. Okay, not actually. She genuinely believes in a "team" even if she's not always at the top. However, don't get it twisted. She won't let herself be on the bottom for long.
⊱ Her favorite form of love is hugs and cuddles. It's probably because she hasn't been hugged by her father since she was in third grade. Needless to say, Violet has major daddy issues.
⊱ After receiving the dream earrings, Violet pierced her own ears Parent Trap-style. She didn't scream, though (or at least that's what she'll tell you).
⊱ Speaking of sewing, Violet won a 4-H contest for "Best Outfit Made of Unconventional Material" when she was in 4th grade. She didn't stop sewing after that.
⊱ One of her other talents includes her fantastic baking abilities (for some reason, her cookies, cakes, and everything in between are always addictive. Granted, sometimes things go wrong and people end up with horns, but they usually go away once they have their morning constitution).
⊱ Her preferred area to study in is the estate’s gardens, by the statue of assumably Aphrodite. It's gotten so bad that she even has a hammock set up.
⊱ Tea FIEND. If you want to makeup with Violet, get her a fancy tea from Westcliffe. Bonus points if you can guess which type she wants!
⊱ Violet always needs to have something to do with her hands, and she can often be found working on some needlepoint or knitting project in class. Of course, there aren't many close friends that want to give them a plethora of scarves or embroidered flowers, so she usually hands them out to people when she sees they're having a bad day.
⊱ Obsessed with getting into her dream school, Vi actually works really hard in school though she pretends she doesn't. She has daddy's money, of course! Still, she needs to work her ass off to get into Julliard, so it isn't a complete lie.
⊱ Her favorite color is deep forest green, almost black, but she wears a lot of pastels and pinks because they match her complexion and aspired aesthetic better.
⊱ Secretly dreams of having a healthy relationship with at least one person, but she knows it probably won't ever happen all-things-considering. She's just too self-sabotaging and controlling for that to ever happen. At some point, Violet's completely ready to accept her fate as a gorgeous spinster. At least people have always told her she looks fantastic in a little black dress!
⊱ Absolutely hates it when someone calls her crazy or tells her to calm down. It's rare that Violet loses composure, and anyone who ever tries to tell her to not feel her emotions obviously doesn't understand how rarely she lets herself feel upset. At least not obviously. If you're in a fight with her, she doesn't respond well to yelling either. She just wishes arguments could happen in a way that's a little more civilized.
⊱ One of her little quirks is listening to her music through the YouTube app instead of paying for Spotify Premium/Apple Music like any normal person would. She's constantly charging her phone with one of the outlets in the back of the class because her phone battery is always drained.
⊱ Slight to major John Mulaney stan. He's never failed to make her giggle!
⊱ A total dog person. She hasn't met one she doesn't smile at and felt compelled to cuddle.
⊱ Knows how to pick a lock with just a bobby pin due to too many hours spent on YouTube.
⊱ Secretly wishes she could go braless without people noticing/caring or feeling naked. She simply likes the look! Too bad it doesn't fit the aesthetic she crafts so carefully.
⊱ Her love language is handmade gifts. If you receive a surprise present from her, she's probably trying to tell you she loves you {platonic or otherwise}.

A ditzy girl whose perseverance and determination get her to Harvard, where she reveals herself to be independent and fantastic at anything she puts her mind to- what's there not to love? However, Vi's still just as capable of going full Carrie on these bitches. Except slightly less murder-y.
⊱ Digs the opposites-attract narrative in her favorite rom coms that she just swoons over!
⊱ Has a pair of cross earrings her mother gave her after getting her ears pierced the summer she passed. She guards them with her life, even if the gold paint is fading.
⊱ Updates everyone on her life and thoughts on her private snap story. She never got that phase in middle school where everyone was posting pics like Don't at me with a depressed-looking face or needlessly recording herself talking about her day, so she's making up for lost time.
⊱ Loves being the person who’s always caring for everyone else. If she can be in charge and the one people come to for help and reassurance, Violet's 100% into it. Something about being needed gives her purpose.
⊱ Romantically, as with most types of relationships, Vi likes to be in charge- at least to some extent. Perhaps that's why she rarely lets a flirtation last more than a few weeks. She's still in control at that point. Maybe not her biggest fear, per se, but it'd certainly be an adjustment that she'd put off at all costs.
⊱ Despite appealing to the manufactured stereotype of a ditzy, blonde cheerleader, Vi is actually a total feminist, sitting in her room digging the powerful women in her favorite comic books to praising the work of Kathleen Hanna as she blares "Rebel Girl" on repeat. Why should she sacrifice her femininity just to be seen as a badass? Or have to be sexy to get the job done either? Everyone should just be who they naturally are as respected all the same. Not that she still doesn't want to be on top and won't do what's necessary to get there, but her gender really shouldn't fucking matter other than she's a pretty girl.
⊱ Obsessed with pretty comic book/graphic novel/manga girls. Granted, she's not proclaiming her love for Poison Ivy or Envy Adams, but she definitely owns a collection that she hides under her bed. She's super particular about who touches them, even though none of the comics are even remotely expensive and her graphic novels are worn, with the pages ripped at the edges. She's just possessive about them.
⊱ A guy who's not afraid that anything remotely feminine will challenge his precious masculinity and status as a dude? Incredibly hot. And something she's not used to finding.
⊱ Loves to bike everywhere on her yellow mountain bike. Vi usually goes mountain biking with Hilda during the summer, and she finds it hard not to miss. It's usually her best bonding time with Hilda.
⊱ Hyperboles. Hyperboles. Hyperboles. Exaggeration is definitely Vi's strong suit, so beware! If you can even figure out if she's telling the truth (which, she tries to. It's a bit hard), she might also be playing things up.

It’s possible that under another circumstance Mikhail could have been quite popular. But Westcliffe isn’t experiencing Mikhail, they are subjected to the quirks of Lowell. While his interests are actually his interests- he wouldn’t put in that much effort and chose such expensive hobbies if they weren’t something he was invested in, he’s not so much a ‘cool indie guy’ but more of a ‘with work he could be a little bit hot’ kind of guy. If he cared about what other people think, which he never has, (he would have probably offed himself by now if he did) maybe he would try a bit harder. 

Most people are put off by virtually everything about this young man, it’s not because he’s creepy. Well, depends on your definition of creepy. His only friends, Interpol agents that visit him twice a week say he’s like a little adult. Too clipped, too proper, too calm and quick. It’s almost impossible to get him to relax, and it’s even harder to get him to laugh. He attracts the attention of bullies not because he is stone-cold, but because he’s a smiler. Somebody does something stupid? A little smile, no teeth, just the sly corners of his mouth turned up to create handsome dimples around his cheeks. It took about one day of ninth grade for him to be clocked across the face at lunch for overhearing a conversation and smiling about it. 

There are some people over the years that did take a bit of interest in him beyond a schoolyard fight or a verbal assault in class about how he’s ‘too fucking dorky’, people who like smart guys, or girls who confess to liking ‘ugly’ guys have approached him before. But it’s almost no secret that the young man doesn’t take well to being called ugly. He rejected them. He may be at a painful deficit of romantic interests, but that’s also by his own design. 

If any of his classmates do talk to him outside of ‘you got the homework?’, they would probably say that Lowell is gentlemanly, soft spoken, generally pretty giving if you haven't made him angry in the past. Some would even call him charming. But there are a select few people that you wouldn’t necessarily expect that avoid Lowell like he’s the plague. A friend group of four jocks that bullied Lowell nonstop for two years, until over this last summer, while they were driving home from a party, they got into a car crash that left one of them in a wheelchair and the other two severely injured, and one dead. While nobody pointed to Lowell as a suspect, they actually believed it to be a freak accident, those boys don’t bully him anymore.

══════ 𝐁𝐀𝐂𝐊𝐆𝐑𝐎𝐔𝐍𝐃══════

First thing you probably should know about Lowell, he was born in St. Petersburg, Russia on February Fourteenth, 2003. But he does not speak with a russian accent. In fact he speaks with a southern accent, one low and sweet and not specific to any region of the south. 

His father, Pavel Petrov, was jailed in 2009 after trying to gut his son for ‘ruining’ his marriage with his wife, Galina Petrov. She had nothing to do with the attempted murder and testified against her then husband in court, later divorcing him. The medical complications and multiple surgeries the six year old was subjected to, as well as the constant worry and positive attention she got from doctors, allowed Galina Petrov to develop an acute case of Factitious disorder imposed on another, also known as Munchausen's Syndrome by Proxy. While she was not formally diagnosed with this for another eight years, her son experienced all the classic symptoms full force. 

By the time he was seven, Mikhail was ‘experiencing’ seizures, migraines, extreme back pains, lightheadedness and constant upset stomach. When the doctors wouldn’t diagnose him, a medical supply store and a drug dealer always did the trick. 

By the time he was nine, he wore a back and neck brace, did regular breathing treatments, was bound to a wheelchair and was homeschooled. 

It came in waves, got better and worse with time. Never really stopping or getting worse. Until Mikhail broke his leg at thirteen, trying to impress a group of peers. 

Compound fracture. Fourteen pins. Metal plate. Four reconstructive surgeries, physical therapy. The doctors said the break was so bad and he bled as much as he did because of medication that wasn't on his medical form. The next time doctors would see the pair would be unforgettable. 

After she stuck him in a wheelchair, doped him up, stuck IV’s in his bruised veins, and kept that cast on for six long months, she was happy. She helped him cut it off a couple weeks after he turned fourteen, but fed him pills and baby food for another two months. 

She was filing for medical bankruptcy at the kitchen table when fourteen year old Mikhail came up behind her and stabbed her 97 times in the back, neck, and head. 

He called the police immediately afterwards. He was honest, but the defense attorney came up with something better than an insanity plea. Battered Child Syndrome. It was not planned, it wasn’t cleaned up, he cried for a day straight and hasn’t slept since the day he killed her. He knows he is not ill, so therefore he knows he has been experiencing abuse for eight years. His mother kept him in the house, often locked him in his room, and subjected him to unnecessary medicines and procedures. Not to mention the several homegrown exorcisms he experienced from the ages 10-14 that left him physically and mentally scarred. 

That, combined with a diagnosis of ASD, followed by an unrelated diagnosis of APD and Complex PTSD, allowed the defense to go through. But the case had gotten so famous in Russia, that it took about one plea to Interpol from them to take him into Witness Protection. He lives off government money in Westcliffe. 

Mikhail Maxim Petrov was turned into Lowell Tuesday West, a young man from somewhere in the North Carolinas. His father travels for work and the entire reason they moved to Westcliffe was because his mother disowned him for being gay. 

He’s been here for almost four years now, and he never wants to leave. He’s worked hard to have his privileges and he never intends to let them go.

𝐇𝐄𝐀𝐃𝐂𝐀𝐍𝐎𝐍𝐒

Lowell is, and probably will always be the least athletic man in the room. Being gutted at the age of six and subsequently being subjected to multiple invasive surgical procedures during his developmental years has led to a laughably bad lung capacity. His need for embarrassingly thick glasses, his mild color blindness, weak bones and anemia also doesn’t help. 

An absolute quote factory. He’s always reading- it’s one of those things that don’t really require much from him. He also watches a lot of tv and movies, foreign films don’t escape his grasp. Most popular things, Star Wars, Harry Potter, The Office for example, he could all rattle off a quote or two, even if he doesn’t like the actual series. 

Lowell is known by the plant shops in town for coming in more than once a week, sometimes even twice a day. He hasn’t ever invited anyone to his cramped apartment, but if you should ever be so lucky, you’ll be ducking under vines and greeted with flowers at every corner you turn. 

Despite growing most of his own produce and not being a fan of red meat or most dairy, one of Lowell’s hobbies is cooking. He doesn’t talk about it for fear that his already plentiful bullies will take to calling him Hannibal, which is just about the last thing he wants. 

Most people from school know Lowell as either the weird kid with the camera around his neck, (film, not digital), or the weird kid who plays violin. 

Speaking of his camera, a 1972 mint condition Nikon f2, it goes almost everywhere with him. The only closet in Lowell’s apartment is a dark room. All of his clothes are kept on metal racks and wooden milk crates. 

His last hobby of any merit would probably be vinyl collecting. Depending on your taste, you could either love or hate what he’s taken the time in the last four years to collect. 80s pop, southern gothic, male manipulator indie and his Queen collection. 

Because of being constantly poked with needles for eight years straight, Lowell has developed bruising in his veins on par with that of a heroin addict. Simply, the young man has track marks from the involuntary drug use he was subjected to. They have faded just slightly over the last four years, but he still rarely rolls his sleeves up in public.
