Loving everyone characters!

Sorry Dark Cloud, it's really hard to be panicked, have thoughts about previous death and notice everything. I really wanted to bring Dexter in on my last post, but I decided it might be a bit meta-gamey and it would probably best to just get the hell out of this tiny room before we start trading interactions.

But yeah, the demon boy hiding in plain sight has 100 stealth XD

@Conejitoooo I'm sorry to you too, I didn't wait for you to get a 1st post in before I charged in with a 2nd. Are you hanging back on purpose? Should we just keep rolling?

Gotcha. I'm guessing that'll be after the coming battle. Maybe your tavern is the main hangout for everyone and some recurring NPCs. I can't wait, either way, should be a lot of fun.

EDIT: MacKensie Trydant has lived her life as a bit of a straight-arrow square so it should be interesting development for her being exposed to the tavern social life, games of chance and drinking ale n what-not.

Gonna write up some more lore bits while waiting.

While the Witch is essentially a normal human with immortality, that immortality allows her to do some things normal people cannot, most important of which is free use of "hysterical strength." Our bodies our way stronger than we think, but that strength is self-destructive, so our bodies possess a limiter to keep us from tearing ourselves apart. "Hysterical strength" overrides that limiter in certain emergencies. The Witch has trained herself to override that limiter at will, and is able to heal injuries incurred in the process.

There is a caveat to this healing ability, however: healing is painful. The faster the healing, the greater the pain. Regenerating a lost limb in a few seconds incurs excruciating, traumatizing pain, while doing so over a few hours incurs a dull ache. The amount of strength she uses is often enough to crack her bones or strain some muscles, but the pain from healing it is often bearable, especially if she takes painkillers (which she tries to avoid). This is how she manages to hold her edge against her mortal opponents. Anyone with good healing powers could probably replicate this ability, but unlike a mage, the Witch will never run out of mana doing it. She might run out of pain tolerance though, so she likes to reserve that level of strength for truly worthy opponents.

@Dark Cloud Actually, Dexter could probably do that too. He's the same kind of being as the Witch. That kid could be a lot stronger than he looks.

I just had an idea for how to bring the fight to the players. Teleport is a thing...

The wooden dolls are essentially remote-controlled magic drones. Their pilots are stationed further away, their minds linked to the dolls in full-dive VRMMO style. They serve the Witch's purposes in every possible way: they train their pilots to fight against stronger enemies, and they train their enemies on the dolls, making everybody stronger in anticipation of the coming Void incursion. Of course, strengthening her enemies does risk making it harder to take down their weakling overlords, but that is a risk she feels is worth taking.
