Set up, the group has been told by a powerful being, who made the ring if you wish to free the Genie from the ring (rather than a lamp) that whoever makes the wish will become the new Genie (along with the stander can't bring a person back to life, can't make someone love you

group thinks about the wishes the Genie is begging to be freed and the idea is put forth to mind swap the Genie with the bad person we defeated, many in the group think this is a good idea ... freeing the person and trapping the bad person in the ring

my view is that it will be a wish to free the Genie and trap the person that made the wish the new Genie... or it does work and now we have someone that hates us as the new Genie and will do everything to bring the downfall of the group and/or twist any wishes the group tries to make with the ring

So in simple terms, there's a ring with a genie trapped inside, and you'd like to make a wish that frees the genie and turns a "bad person" into the new genie?

I would not wish for a mind swap, since that would just swap the minds of the two individuals, and then the wisher would become the new genie anyway. I would just do something like "I wish (insert bad person's name here) could take my place as the next genie." Which ensures that they will take your place and be trapped in the ring.

The only problem with this is it does open up the possibility for someone else to stumble across the ring and make a wish, effectively freeing said bad guy and dooming someone else. Perhaps the ideal wish would be "I wish (insert bad person's name here) could take my place as the next genie for eternity." or something along those lines.
