Hey, Everyone. So here's a breakdown of how the Rallen Knights' Academy is structured so you can all start building ideas for your characters. Below you'll find a re-hash of the story setup and a guide for your character sheets.
In the distant past of the Pokémon World, there exists a region where humans and their Pokémon are one and the same, quite literally. In this region, warriors that are able to achieve the greatest of bonds with their Pokémon are blessed with the power of the Unity Phenomenon. When a trainer and their partner Pokémon are in perfect sync with one another, the duo share their power and the trainer is enveloped with a powerful armor in the guise of their respective Pokémon. With this newfound 'armor', the trainer is then capable of fighting alongside their partner in combat for a brief period of time. Children that display this rare and powerful ability are selected by the King's Guard and taken to the capital to be trained at the Rallen Knight's Academy!
However... there are those who seek to use this blessing for their own gain. A dark force has arisen within the Rallen Region. A shadowy cabal known only as Decree have risen up with warriors of their own who can also harness the Unity Phenomenon's power. While their motives are unclear, it is known they seek to overthrow the monarchy of the Rallen Region and destroy the quiet and peaceful lives of the common folk. With the stakes rising, a fresh team of young knights is selected by the commander to take part in a region-wide hunt for the members of Decree to uncover and stop their plans.
Outside the two main factions, there are those capable of Unity that don't pick a side. These characters are typically either mercenaries, artisans, or merchants who use this power for their own profit rather than for the good of the masses. A mercenary might use it as part of their work as a sellsword whereas artisans and merchants may employ it as part of their business (perfecting their craft or defending a caravan). Despite not being involved in the main conflict, they may prove to be powerful wildcards in the coming events. Who knows who could shift the tide of battle?
For a basic overview of how the academy is structured, there are four main groups characters can be a part of. We have: First Years, Second Years, Third Years, and Faculty. First years arrive at the academy at age 15 (the earliest age at which the Unity Phenomenon can manifest). During the first year, students are paired with a partner Pokémon if they don't already have one, and they are trained in the basics of harnessing Unity and combat. The second year students take this up a level by learning more advanced combat material and taking part in light missions with the royal guard. Finally, third year students spend the bulk of their time studying tactics and battle strategy. Since the Unity Phenomenon is exceedingly rare, knights who can utilize it are often promoted quicker and become commanders much sooner than average soldiers so it's expected they [the students] learn how to lead. As a result, third year students find themselves leading smaller missions within the kingdom as part of their training.
Faculty members can come from any walk of life. Some have been knights in service to the kingdom for years, and some may be scholars who have studied Unity for their entire lives. Regardless, the faculty at the Academy are top notch in their respective fields and their loyalty to both the kingdom and the students' well-being is unquestionable. Notable roles among the faculty include: Instructors, Medic, Mage, and the Headmaster.
Pokémon employed at the academy can be from any of the seventeen known types. For simplification purposes, the physical-special split does not apply here. So, in other words, the types that were considered "Special" before Gen 4 are "Magic" in this universe while types that were "Physical" are the more "Martial" types of combat (For obvious reasons, Fairy will be considered a Magic Type). All Pokémon are accepted, but as Rallen is located close to Kalos and Galar in terms of geography, keep those Dex's in mind.
