Latrell Godfrey | 30 | Human | Male
Physical Appearance: Latrell sports a similar appearance to the photo above, with more specific metrics being
that he is about 5'11 and 200 lbs. His hands are somewhat rough yet have a delicate touch from having worked on his machines all his life. He typically walks with a light step and is quick on his feet when it comes to physical activity.
Class/Skillset: Latrell has a slight affinity with magic, mainly to imbue some into his contraptions. He has left all his previous inventions back home, however he still has his favorite companion Buki by his side. His magic is typically lightning-aspected, containing small sparks of electricity to shock his enemies.
His primary form of combat is through his pride and joy,
Buki. The small contraption morphs into a
crossbow that he can hold and fire with assisted accuracy. Buki can also stop others from firing his weapon against him by purposefully jamming in the event they steal Latrell's weapon. His preferred style is to stay on the move and to fire at his target rapidly, using both regular, magic, and sometimes poisoned bolts to take down his foe.
Back home he had a small knife that passed an electric current around its edges, giving it an extra "edge". He may seek to re-create this when he had the resources to. He rather enjoys tinkering and crafting all kinds of gadgets and gizmos, some of which may be mundane or rather useful. Even he admits it can be rather hit or miss.
Personality: Latrell enjoys brainstorming, drawing, talking about his inventions and ideas, and exploring the unknown. He likes to eat greens and fruits mainly, with some chicken or turkey being his major protein sources. He rather dislikes people who contradict themselves or are condescending to him and his inventions. He doesn't really care for fashion or politics, wanting to save those discussions for "people better suited for that craft".
Latrell is rather out-going, a positive thinker, and someone who likes to be efficient or pragmatic in what he does. He is the type to find the quickest solution he can, and put it to good use. Some would even say he's partially impatient. He can also be stubborn when he feels his path or idea is the way to go, so if anyone wants to go against him they will likely need lots of evidence to back up their claim. When an invention of his doesn't work as intended he typically sulks for a bit before going back to the drawing board. He isn't shy of learning new things, and will typically talk with people just to hear about what they know and where they came from. Overall he is a very curious creature who may act cold and calculating but does have a more caring side to him under all the calculations and diagrams.
Background: Latrell grew up on the streets of Shestead, living a rather moderate lifestyle with his parents, who made their keep by being shipwrights. While his parents would be in the shipyard working on various vessels, Latrell would talk with the sailors and traders who came in and hear about the far off lands they would sail from. He found their stories engaging, and listened to their problems with great interest. He would often find small solutions in the form of gadgets and trinkets for very small grievances such as sore feet, itchy backs, sick stomachs, etc.
Reaching his adolescent and soon after his young adult years, Latrell began to study and apply his mechanical knowledge of boats and general vehicles to the next level by applying steam-powered contraptions to power the gears and power mechanisms surrounding them. He found it far more efficient to compress air particles into steam which could then be shot from small tubes in order to send energy through his machines. It was this line of thinking that led him to make the first "version" of his life-long companion, Buki. As the rise of monster activity began, Latrell felt a call to adventure and heroism sing to him alongside the need to solve the bigger problems of his hometown. He took into the countryside and began to hunt the smaller creatures that wandered nearby. It was honest and small work, but soon he began to look at the bigger picture. After honing his craft and practicing his aim, he saw the call to action from Queen Maeve as a sign to do some greater good. From there he packed his bags, wished his parents a safe season, and made the journey to Abona.
Noteworthy Past Events: Latrell's biggest claim to fame are his inventions, a few of which can be listed here:
The Shock-Alot - His prized dagger that ran electric currents along the edge for a "shocking" touch to his close-range weapon
Data Concealatron - A small device that can seal documents or small items behind a complicated padlock mechanism that only the owner knows how to unlock
Mobile Nutrition Alterator Engine - A small composter that can turn biomatter into nutritious (although not delicious) food bars for consumption. Good for a survival pinch.
Smog Dislocator Matrix - A vacuum-like object that can suck in dense fog particles (or even poisonous fog) and keep it compressed in its central chamber
Auxiliary Life Scrambler Matrix - A new-aged electronic revival machine. In the event that someone is unresponsive, two pads can be applied to the target's chest in order to deliver small shocks to restart the heart.
Explosive Blackout Scrambler - At first it appears to be an important device capable of some higher purpose, but ultimately it's a dummy invention meant to blow up in someone's face should they steal it or have it given to them after asking all day for some new contraption.
