Well, from what little I've been able to learn about them, I'm guessing it's some sort of soul magnification. Or an equivalent to one, at least. One of them seems mostly the same, but the other is very different, which makes me think it's more like my old splitting than like your Mother's. I'm still trying to figure out more, though.

It's like... if a common creature's soul is a blueberry, yours is more of a strawberry. Some are like blackberries, and occasionally you'll find a raspberry. Yours is different enough to not call it "normal," but I'd call it close enough to not worry about it.

Depends on the type. There's souls that are the heart of a spirit, there's souls that are the culmination of a living entity, there's souls like darkloids come from... Generally a soul is a metaphysical core of a being. Rarely there'll be physical ones, but those are incredibly uncommon.
