It has been a millenium since the Reaping King landed at Ka-Adun and began his conquest of the Gyre. Now, the Brass Hegemony is a shell of its former self, and the great, expansive New City remains largely empty. The Reaping King remains hidden and quiet in his Folded Palace, and his legions of automata have retreated to those lands he directly administers.
In recent years, the provincial rulers of the Gyre have begun to fight among themselves, and seek to find their new hegemon, at least in lieu. But power shifts for everyone, not just humanity, and the Anak to the south can plainly see what is happening to their north, and in deeps and hives and reefs and shadowy dens, Outsiders stir. Not all wars take place where they can be seen, and there are perilous forces on the move, throughout the whole Latter Earth.
You have chosen to seek your fortune against this backdrop, as an adventurer. The savage lands of the Latter Earth are always supportive of this profession of danger, and your kind is known throughout the world. In times of change, such as this plainly is, it becomes even more lucrative, for those willing to risk cruel death.

Welcome to a sandbox campaign in the Gyre, the region of the Latter Earth given in the free core rulebook for the B/X D&D variant, Worlds Without Number. To join, simply submit a character sheet in this channel, and if I approve it, repost it to the character sheet channel, and keep it updated. You can find the rules PDF here.

OK. I'm writing the intro post now. I had hoped we'd have at least one other player by now, and other players are of course always welcome to join. Just to check, does it sound good to you to start off with your character entering Gathis for the first time, or returning for the first time since setting out on your own?

Starting the story off with Gordak arriving in Gathis for the first time sounds good to me.

First post done! I've left it somewhat open-ended for you. Feel free to ask for any more detail, or things you think you might already know about Gathis.

I noticed in the book that some of the rules rely on sessions. Since this is a play by post game rather than a session game, do you have any plans in place on how to work around that?

I'm not sure. Either I'll just decide by fiat when you want to take some such action, or I will say that, whenever a character gains renown, the "session" resets for that character, for the purpose of such rules. Alternatively I could note when I think the "session" changes, in the case of downtime.

Do you think Gordak is literate?

Gordak is literate, but the skill does not come to him swiftly. He needs time to properly read or write something. He can rush the process if the situation calls for it, but that leaves him prone to misreading things or making errors in his writing.

I'll probably run that by noting the presence of writing but not what it says, and you'll need to actively read it.

The chestpiece is made of of leather that has been studded with knucklebone dice. And the piecework limb armor is a collection of hides from various durable creatures stitched together.
