(Note: by 'adult' i don't mean lewd, i mean a variation without all the kid show tropes mixed in xD a more serious, logical, and somewhat darker version of equestria, also because of near certainty of violence and gore)

The gist of the background here is this:
It happened, Earth finally made contact with extraterrestrial life!... the catch?... it wasn't just from another world, star system, or even galaxy, but a parallel universe!... and they were ponies... mostly... now, this is ancient history at this point, but it's important to remember that this all started with the best of intentions, scientific curiosity, the drive for exploration and advancement, the eternal craving for peace, allies, and a thriving utopia!...
They weren't nearly as childish as that silly cartoon, though the similarities were striking, they were far more serious, defensive, and paranoid... they came in peace, certainly, but they had clearly experienced the consequences of trusting too easily.
It took time, but deals were made, alliances struck, and exchanges carried out, and just like that progress was off like a rocket in flight! Their magic followed them through the portals, though it seemed weak here at first, it was discovered that our world had a 'thaumosphere' of it's own, it was simply dormant and atrophied from disuse, yet it was slowly awakening and strengthening now that it was being used again, and as it did the ability to use magic spread, in some cases the awakening thaumosphere simply 'altered' someone, in other's people learned to manipulate 'it'.
Magic, REAL magic permeated our civilization for the first time ever, as far as we know, and the wonders seemed to know no bounds!... sure, there were nay-sayers, but we over-looked them, they wouldn't do anything foolish would they?...
Alas, blinded by the wonders the surged through our civilization in the following decades, not enough of us paid any mind to the hardliners, the zealots, the cults... some were simply new darker problems, necromancer cults, flesh-sculpting lunatics, amateur wizards with too much ego... but the old guard of evil didn't vanish, certain main-stream religions viewed magic as blasphemous, not to mention 'creatures' born to use it, then there was that one doomsday cult over in the east always trying to find a way to end the world... who now had magic...
The rampant monsters, the advent of the undead, holy wars, cold wars, actual wars... It was only a matter of time as things escalated and spiraled out of control, that a world unfamiliar with the ultimate dangers of magic, would not know how to curb them quickly enough to prevent critical mass, it was like a hundred different catastrophes combined to form a rainbow apocalypse.
Nuclear weapons were put to shame by some of the horrors unleashed by the more monstrous among us, humanity's darkest evils availing themselves of 'magical' power was never going to end well, but nobody really expected to go so badly... Nobody except the Equestrian Diarchy at least, who'd seen such horrors, and made a desperate decision to shut down the world connections from their side to prevent it from spreading... Not that we could blame them, but it still leaves 'us' to deal with a world now plagued by war-spells, monsters, undead, and demons.
All that said, they left behind many of their own when sealing the portals, and we're all stranded in this mess together... with any luck our combined skills and efforts will let us pick up the pieces and build some kind of civilization out of what's left.

Now the 'focus' of the rp is a small community in some undecided earth city (details pending, suggestions welcome), trying to survive in a hostile environment some years or century later (the time-frame will have a strong effect on the state of the world around us!), demonstrating contributions and synergies of different species, and humans with magic of course. Not just ponies either, things like siren's using their song to ease the stresses of post apoc living, kirin providing fire, heat, and warmth, Dd's doin digging, , changeling scouts that don't hurt the food supply, etcetera!
(I plan to manage this on discord for simplicity and organization's sake, and because this could have many scenes active at once, a decent ammount of literacy and imagination are likely neccesary, and patience. I only have a few hours each weekday free, so most progress will be on weekends)
