Fear. Unwelcomed. Unwanted. Hated.

Quinn felt all of these, and much more besides, as she sat on the floor of St. Austin High School. Knees drawn to her chest and arms wrapped around them, her forehead rested on her knees as the tears flowed down her freckled cheeks. Quiet sobs passed her lips, and she didn't dare look up or even try to acknowledge those walking past in the hallway.

Sometimes she'd face vile hatred, some fuelled by a lack of understanding, other examples by a genuine disgust and rhetoric from social media. Quinn was hated for being who she was inside, for wanting to get out of the body that she hated and to be in the feminine form that felt right. She hated being born a boy, hated looking in the mirror and seeing an almost tormenting image staring back at her.

Being ignored felt better in some ways, and yet worse in others. Ignored, she could at least escape the hatred of this small town. But it reminded her that she had no friends, no family to turn to. Nobody to interact with or to be held by when she needed it.

Feeling something on her hand, Quinn looked up. Through tearfilled eyes, she met the face of a classmate. She realized they'd placed a hand on her own, and Quinn's small hand moved to allow the other to hold it if they wished.

“Why?” Quinn sniffled, the word coming out with fear and uncertainty. She'd never expected anyone to acknowledge her, and a friendly hand over her own felt amazing.

_____

Okay, there's a couple of ways we could take this!

The first is the most cliche, but could be fun. Quinn's high school has recently merged with your character's, and this starts roughly three or four weeks after said merger. At her old school, Y/C was always Queen Bee. Popular, well loved and the envy of every girl and the desire of every guy. She had to keep up this reputation of a pretentious, “too good for you” sort of bully, that she hated having to show.

But with the merger, and seeing Quinn, she can finally drop the act. Make a genuine friend, and actually care about someone else.

Or the other concept isn't as thought out.

Y/C is new to this town, having left her old school and town with her own family. This town is like their old one, being a predominantly Christian, Caucasian town. Which means Y/C and her family face hatred like before.

Quinn and Y/C are drawn to each other, both outcasts because of things they cannot help. Naturally they become close, starting to get feelings for eachother.
