I used to have an old account on this website, but it seems to have either vanished or become associated with a different e-mail. This'll be my first post with this account.

I've been on a three year break from most forms of creative writing (other than writing for the screen) and would very much like to get back into it. I've worked with collaborative RPs in the past (one lasting for about two and a half years), and I've found them to be more helpful in developing my writing skills than most classes I've been taking at my university. I find the universe of this RP extremely interesting, and would love to submit a character sheet if all the positions aren't filled. Let me know if you're no longer accepting submissions, as I'll stop working on my character's backstory.

Also: I only plan on using one character, but there are several supporting characters that I would need to properly flesh him out. Should I PM you about such things, or is it cool for me to post it all in here?

I'd say we're still accepting, broheim! The more the merrier, as Sini always says! =)

I'm looking forwards to this taking off; I might get a few more character sheets up, but I'll mostly be focusing on the character I've already created.

Did anyone wanna talk about setting up past/present relationships with characters? It'd be good if at least a few characters knew one another before we launched into things; it might help the first few posting rounds go more smoothly.

Heyyyy ... another Steampunk Story! If there's room, I'd be down with collaborating multiple story arcs; I'm aiming on one primary character complemented with several supporting characters and historical examples for inspiration. Are you all still accepting character sheets?

We are. I also plan to keep recruitment open during the game itself.

Doctor Belasco

Member Offline since relaunch

Sorry about the wait.

Name: Dr. Edward Fisher (Eduard Visman)
Age: 34
Profession/vocation: Paid doctor to the criminal and free doctor to the poor
Affiliation:
  • Church of the Maker

  • One particular to-be-named criminal gang in Kingstone

Skills:
  • Medical skills; basic medical competences; access to and understanding of medicines, including extremely rare and little-known ones extracted from Pan-Dessian flora and fauna; and competences in biothaumaturgy

  • Combat skills: basic gunmanship; basic swordsmanship; an ingenious attitude to medical magic and what other applications it might have

  • Bilinguial: speaks both the primary language of the Union and that of his home country in Eronia

Traits:
  • Brash

  • Misanthropic

  • Lascivious

  • Guilty

Personality: Edward is not a particularly nice man to talk to. He is gruff, permanently irritable and acts with barely-concealed disdain for those around him, including his patients. He is almost famously ill-tempered and impatient. Unsurprisingly, he has no friends that know him on pure social terms, though he does, of course, have contacts through his work with whom he is on simply stand-offish terms, rather than active resentment. Beneath the surface, he is still hugely contemptuous, but there is slightly more depth to him; he is wracked with guilt for his actions in colonial Pan-Dessia and feels morally obliged by a higher power to make up for them through the administration of medicine among the poor. He is, however, morally and ambiguous, and is happy to pick and choose those things he feels are moral or not. He has more or less given up on people and his 'good work' is more of an internal penance rather than trying to make the world a better place – which he will frankly admit to those close to him (provided he is not jealously seeking the higher moral ground). While he likes to behave as though he is above the physical, he is frankly not. He is sleezy, frequently gluttonous, and more than a little interested in saving his own skin. When push comes to shove, morality be damned.
Biography: Edward is not a national of the Union. He was born in _______ in central Eronia, where he grew up as the second son of a middle class family. With the middle classes, too, in Eronia, came education, where Edward excelled in both the humanities and natural philosophy (read: sciences). It was inevitable, if slightly disappointing for his rather more practical family, who wanted another lawyer in the family to take over the family business, that he would go on to university, and continue to develop his increasing fascination in the living body; especially those of humans. It was at the university that his potential as a Biothaumaturge began to exhibit itself. Of course, the applications were few outside that of the military as ownership of the fuels for Biothaumaturgy were few and far between. It was, therefore, as an employee of the government that he grew his skills in Biothaumaturgy, in a Punishment factory just outside the city he grew up in. This both paid for a roof over his head and gave him the experience needed for his education, and, frankly, they were criminals, weren't they? It was only when one (somehow) broke out of its labour and beseeched him for help that he was shaken. That night, he simply ran away.
His flight brought him to the Union where he sought employment as a doctor, but without (great) language skills or (recognised) credentials as a medic, he was forced to turn to His Majesty's Royal Navy, where he trained as a military doctor and joined the main colonial fleet seeking to discover (and conquer) the unknown world. Five years he remained a stationed doctor in Richmond, caring for the men stationed with him. With indignant natives and Eastern fevers flying around, he more than earned his stripes. He also took it upon himself to explore the local area and its fauna and flora, and privately discovered many potential medical applications for their constituent parts. No doubt these medicines were already commonplace among the natives and would be exported en masse to the West within a few years, but Edward was one of the first to get his hands on them.
His career with the navy ended abruptly in his injury; a native woman came to him with her child, whose leg was showing all the signs of gangrine, and begged him to heal him. Obviously, this wasn't something Edward could do within his physical capacity as a doctor and knew that he could not use the navy's medical supply of whale oil for a native. He agreed to help nontheless, and agreed that the Other Side could take from him whatever it wanted. He fully expected to die, and attributes his survival to the prayers of the native woman and feels to this day that he was in some way touched by god. He did, nevertheless, grow ill enough to be discharged and, in his months of recovery, returned to the Union.
Here he decided to dedicate himself to humanitarian work. In order to pay the bills and to acquire the fuels required to enable him to heal the people beyond the reach of physical medicine, he is paid by a big, local gang to heal them without asking questions when they get into scrapes, and is also sponsored by the Church of the Maker, under whose name he begrudgingly performs his 'miracles'.

Forgot while writing this that I didn't know any country names for Eronia. Was thinking mid-east of the continent, roughly equivalent to Austria.

Character Name: Dr Benoit Yves Gerard Palmeston

Age: 29

Affiliation: Vitner Guild and Perfumers Guild

Profession/vocation: Perfumer, Owner of La Pomme d'Ambre, Consulting Oenologist.

Skills:
Educated - He has a wide general knowledge through a privileged education.

Scientist - He is skilled in various biological and chemical fields.

Businessman - You can hav all the advisers you need but a savvy business head on your shoulders stands you in good stead.

Traits:
Artistic Flare - Always a snappy dresser Benoit has an eye for what looks good and often has a major say in his advertising campaigns and window designs.

Charming - He is a smooth talker and can often guile either sex into following his carefully made plans.

Wealthy - If this counts as a trait he has a substantial monetary value.

History:
Benoit was born the only child to Lord Frederick George Palmeston and Duchesse Violetta Marie Genevieve Vaundeleur of Le Vignesin D'amiens in Eronia. Both lesser known families were facing hard times, a variety of investments becoming obsolete with the growing technological revolution. The couple met at a wedding and after an initial familiarity both realised that as well as the passionate romance that developed over the coming months, that the combined Palmeston merchant fleet and Vaundeleur wine production could be a powerful combination. Their collective efforts saved both families and they became the major wine producers in Eronia and leading importer for The Union. With this new found respect his mother claimed a seat on the Open Council become a lead advocate for all forms of equality, whilst his father continued to expand the business investing in other beverages, pharmaceuticals and exotic foods.

Benoit spent his early years split between both homelands gaining a passion for travel and culture from his ranging experiences of both countries, before completing his formal education on the contingent at his mother's insistence. Pushed by his parents he achieved high grades and then moved to Kingstone to continue his studies further through a scholarship, taking an interest in biology, initially viticulture and botany, before turning his hand to zoology and medicine. He embraced his new social standing, as well as his business ventures with his father and art patronage though his mother, soon becoming a highly eligible batchelor within a multitude of social circles.

He spurned advances in order to focus on academia and business, combining the recent scientific discoveries emerging in Kingstone with his practical agricultural experience from the continent to revolutionise viticulture and earning him a respectful standing within his family's company. Now with means of his own through his investments, Benoit used his botanical knowledge and chemical advances to create his first range of perfumes spotting a niche in the Kingstone market and then expands the perfume range following the success of the first ever perfume shop in Kingstone, La Pomme d'Ambre. He is granted an honorary doctorate from the Society of for his documented work in Botany and Viticulture and then two more branches of La Pomme d'Ambre open, one back on huge continent, the other in Wrenscote.

Benoit declines all his fathers suggested brides and this gives his industrial opponents, provoked by some anti-continental politicians, the fuel to brand Benoit both a heretic geneticist involved in Remade activities and a homosexual. His mother's open acceptance of his sexuality results in the smear campaign backfiring with him admitting such a preference. Sales increased and a sense of celebrity was cast on Benoit, as one of the new age industrialists, combining business, industry, science and art. His parents have recently relocated to Richmond in order to take advantage of any new opportunities that may arise in the new continent, leaving the company in the safe hands of it's elected board members and Benoit with his mother's Council Seat. His current stress being is lack of political intrigue or interest but rather a preference for socializing and new experiences.

Couple of things I'd like to note.
1. Still on the lookout for a good photo, any suggestions gratefully received.
2. If you want to link back story's feel free to PM me and we'll write something in. It's always nice to have somewhere to start or fall back on in an RP.
3. My region of Eronia was more inspired by the south of France whilst Dr Belasco has gone Austrian. Sini is there that scope on the continent?

Name: Gideon Jackson
Age: 27
Profession/vocation: Military/Infantry Specialist/Officer
Affiliation: N/A
Skills:

  • Tactician; Time in the field, front-line activity, and an exemplary Kingstone military education have honed the man's ability to adapt to many an unfavorable predicament

  • Combat Veteran; As a valuable member Majesty’s Royal Infantry Corps, Gideon has seen more deployments than most other military subjects. He is both an accomplished soldier and a seasoned field specialist , having concluded many tenures across the globe. Constant duty along the front lines have allowed for direct applications towards hand-to-hand proficiency, and immense physical aptitude.

  • Sharpshooter; The Isle's constant deployments have granted Gideon near lightening reflexes and considerably honed firearm proficiency.

  • White Faced Liar; Gideon learned long ago the dangers associated towards outright honesty and when lying became a necessity, the infantryman remained indifferent in regards to maintaining a straight and honest face. The offered benefits came in countless forms and rewards.

  • Card Proficiency; Card games were another favored past time amongst Isle soldiery, allowing the Isle native to hone his playing craft

  • Artist; Time spent in the field brought long, unparalleled sessions for boredom and through visiting the world's many landscapes, the specialist found many opportunities for artistic growth.

  • Resourceful; Able to think and improvise on the fly whilst capitalizing upon any available opportunities have allowed Gideon the ability to escape many otherwise mortal encounters. Likewise, prioritizing and objectifying the most critical responsibilities have shaped Gideon's ability to survive.

  • Blademaster; Sword handling proficiency still resembles one of the Kingdom's most reliable forms of fighting and the Humber native's blade abilities are quite refined.

Traits:

  • Calm

  • Womanizer

  • Inspiring

  • Brave

  • Stoic

  • Cautious

Personality:
Over the years, Gideon's life outlook has changed considerably, especially given his rather tours along the front lines. While initially well meaning, frontline casualties, a non-aristocratic background, and egotistical superior officers have shaped the man's somewhat reserved demeanor and bitter attitudes towards certain members of authority and the upper class.

Gideon has witnessed hardship and toil in nearly every major conflict and his understanding towards Kingdom military actions are quite extensive. The plight of many lower class kingdom residents and honest working class laborers has left him largely sympathetic to the average commoner and somewhat biased against the ruling elite. When absolutely necessary, Gideon inspires an aura of confidence with his subordinates while his words are sometimes strictly and crisply delivered to the point. Several of his more noticeable traits range from womanizing to card swindling and of all peoples, who would ever suspect a level headed man as Gideon Jackson?

Biography:
Gideon Jackson was the eldest son of an upper middle class family, whom owned land and operated a large tapestry business along the banks of the River Humber. His mother died at the age of 6 and his father was left to solely care for the family's, six children. He taught Gideon the essence of hard work and to earn his own respect through discipline and hard work. For a time the family business endured modest prosperity, however, with a newly arriving industrial presence, several large trade organizations and aggressive enterprising baronies began to sweep into the ancient Humber valley; driving many ancestral land owners out of business.

When the Jackson estate came under considerable competitive burdens, Gilroy Jackson sold the family estate for less than market value and relocated the family to Kingstone where life in Old Commons became the new way of life. Upon reaching early adolescence, Gilroy uncovered the family's remaining fortune, contacted every known business favor and lending creditor to acquire enough capital to purchase Gideon a considerable officer's commission. Soon afterwards, Gideon's acceptance ensured his enrollment within the Kingstone Royal Military Academy's prestigious cadet program.

Gideon's progress as an officer cadet accelerated dramatically and he soon earned a 2nd Lieutenant squireship commission within the Isle's 77th Lightstream Foot Guards. Constant deployments followed and kept Gideon away from the family whilst the Kingdom's many battlefields proved a near mortal companion. His steady rise through the ranks and constant battlefield deployments earned an eventual Lieutenant Colonelcy, where steady penchants not only paid off old debts, but brought the family out of the Old Commons. Near constant deployments nevertheless kept Gideon away from the family and as the Kingdom's battlefields expanded, so too did his time in the field.

These days, few subjects frighten him, if anything, and many horrifying campaigns have detached his fear for death or danger. Gideon's dignity still allows the Humber native to reserve proper morals and high regard for human life. The man has demonstrated a remarkable ability to maintain a level headed calmness during most frenetic developments and execute intelligent decisions under definitive fire. The selected friends, fellow fighting brethren, and ship companions proved enough to prevent outright insanity. If anything, a good honest drink and a jaw dropping woman's bosum have served the officer well in the midst of constant Kingdom struggles and military life.

You can be sure that they do, SIni! I just want to throw out the notion about collaboration because collaborative storytelling really does wonders for any given plot and tale. If anyone wants to collaborate with me, let me know and we'll work from there. Now that being said, I'll be in and out over the next few days drafting a post and maybe if there's time, I'll draw a personalized Gideon portrait 8).
