Towns were evacuated as their residents slowly turned into these horrible creatures. Everything was left behind. In the midst, survivors arose. Some clever, unnamed survivor invented electrical barriers that shone with red light. When the furs would step through, they would fall over and die- whatever the barriers were made of seemed deadly to the creatures.

You stand up, and look down at your own hands- blocky, just like the world around you. But you can't seem to remember anything. Who you are, or where your from. You look up- above your head is some text, a name, that you come to call yourself by- your username.
