Prologue: Friday Night at the Movies.

Friday night at the movies, nothing symbolizes the excess of American life and culture as well as spending 40 bucks on two hours of entertainment, a tub of popcorn and some soda. Escapism is as American as apple pie. People spend their hard earned cash to forget, just for a moment, how boring, dull and ordinary their lives are. They gripe about school, their jobs and boyfriends/girlfriends without realizing how blissfully ignorant they are. And I don’t mean it in a pretentious “people are starving in Africa” way. Don’t get me wrong, I used to be the same way, and now, I would give anything to get back to the way things used to be.

I used to love watching horror movies. Not because I loved the feelings of fear or terror, but because after the movie ended, I knew that it was just fiction and there was nothing to be afraid of. However it is that carefully built illusion that was a lie. You open your closet to check for a monster and find it staring straight back at you. Awakening to a true nature of the world is a lot like being born. You are torn from the warm, safe familiar space and expelled into the cold and unforgiving unknown.

I remember how happy and carefree I was as I went to the local Multiplex. A couple days prior, I finally got the balls to ask Lorry out, and she accepted. It was that horrible romance flick with the sparkling vampires, but a chance to hold Lorry’s hand was totally worth it. I actually started enjoy the movie when somebody barged into our auditorium. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw the figure of a man walking down the stairs looking for somebody in the audience. Suddenly, he stopped dead in his tracks and reached into his overcoat. He pulled out a pistol and emptied the entire magazine into a young woman several rows in front of me. The next moment the theater has erupted into chaos. It was a nightmarish scene, the smell of gunpowder, yells of terror, people crawling over each other. What I saw next was even worse. The woman leaped at the shooter, snarling like a wild beast. As she tore the in half, I saw her for what she really was, a bloodthirsty monster. Her face was a horrifying mask with razor sharp fangs , her body a rotten carcass held together by blood. Before I could process what I was seeing, a loud trumpeting voice bellowed out “Follow your Destiny” drowning out the panicked crowd. It felt like somebody punched me in the ear, a sharp pain shot down my spine, and I saw stars and I could barely make it to my feet. The woman was already gone, and as I ran towards the exit, I heard more gunshots and two explosions somewhere outside…

The setting is Old WOD, though you don’t really need to be familiar with it to play. It’s similar to our own world, but with one big difference, Monsters exist. Vampires, Werewolf’s, Ghosts and all sorts of other supernatural creatures hide in plain sight, feeding on unsuspecting humanity. That’s where Hunters come in.
All Hunters are for all intents and purposes human, however they share some basic powers and have creed specific Edges. One of the powers that all Hunters share is that they can’t be turned into a supernatural creature. Each Hunter can also activate an ability which allows them to see the supernatural though not their nature. This ability also protects the Hunters from any sort of mind control. However activating that ability and Edges is very tiring and mentally exhausted character can’t use them anymore.

Mm. Well, here we are.

I'll have a sheet for you...probably later today. It'll be a little bit odd, so I may PM it to you first. But! Happy to see the OOC going. I can definitely get behind a little bit of modern fantasy right around now. :3

That's cool, no hurry.

If anyone else is curious, but doesn't know the Setting or the Hunter system, feel free to ask questions.

While I'm working on this, are you going to be putting together a character, or just GM'ing the story? :)

Ah! Well, fair enough. I'll have something for you soon. Hopefully someone else will too - modern fantasy is deeply sexy~
