Well lets have a group setting. Everybody votes like an old repbulic. No person holds the power. That way your still active and can still usurp power if needed.

In all honesty Haz, you can just wiki the finer points if there is something you are unsure of. Such as the armour looks and costs, and the ratio of troops equipped with it to those in loincloths lol.

But that being said, getting one of these history buffs as a co gm might ease the pressure on you :)

I have a question related to races; Would having Orcs be out of the question? I know we were to keep it roughly humanoid but I don't know if Orcs are crossing some sort of hidden boundry.

I think the whole ''roughly humanoid' was more so people didn't have nations full of sentient mushrooms or something.

And as long as everyone's humanoid the same technology can generally apply to them.

I do think we ought to revisit Legion's comments on some of the sheets on page 4, though and try to establish a concrete setting.

Nation Name: The Hold of Grimmanar

Flag:

Region/color on map: Baragh

Capital Population:
Armgaudr: 100,000

Other Major Settlements:
Adalamar: 33,000
Adalamar specializes in forging, creating weapons and armor for the kingdom’s armies as well as materials for building the enormous structures used as banks, shops, taverns, etc.
Rakbar: 25,000
Rakbar is home to the farming community, which is relatively well put together. Under the leadership of humans, dwarves tend to crops and domesticated animals. However, the Dwarves aren’t the best at keeping food fresh, resulting in food being a mainly imported good.
Gornae: 32,500
Gornae is the place to go for training, whether it be mining, fighting, or drinking. The majority of King Thordrek Foesword’s royal army is trained here.
Glorla: 26,200
The central urban center, Glorla houses shops, taverns, museums, libraries, and homes for the common folk.

Population: 8,500,000

Racial demographics: 92% Dwarves (7,820,000), 5% Orcs (425,000), 3% Human (255,000)

That's all I've completed and started on currently. Still working on it, hoping to have it finished by the weekend.

I've now fixed the ridiculously high amount of soldiers in the army and is now at a relatively normal number.

Huh-hoo!

Let's bring up the link that was posted earlier in the thread: http://www.writing-world.com/sf/hordes.shtml

Now, according to the handy, dandy chart, we have a base population of 4 million. The following takes the numbers used in the link above into account.
Assuming that women don't typically fight (only 10% do in this case), we can rule out nearly half our population. We have to subtract percentages of our population that are too old or young to fight, as well as those with professions that disallow them going to war (academia, secular duties, religious affiliation, etc.), also, those who are not physically capable or are otherwise criminals (who are in the dungeons, or don't obey the law at all, and avoid drafts). In all, we have 87.9 percent of the base population that is unfit for war. This leaves us with a measly recruiting pool of 484,000 out of 4 million people. Further account must be made for those who fall sick, which is easy to do in camps packed full of men. We'll subtract a further 50% from 484,000, leaving us with 240,000 able bodies. But that's not all! These men are never in a single place, and divided into counties, under the rule of different barons and nobles. They are needed to guard towns, cities, forts, etc. and so we'll subtract 80% to represent them scattered around the land.

All this leaves us with a national army of just 48,000 men, readily able to be mustered for war. 48,000 out of 240,000 combat-fit men, out of a population of 4 million. And that's not taking deserters, rebels and the like into account.

Come now, temper your response to this.

I'm working with Slaya to find out what is suitable for his nation. Do not apply human restrictions to a non-human race, that is a fallacy.

Well, you could switch the numbers up a little if you have a race that is greatly resilient to illness, or allows women to fight regularly, or has some exception to the above. I'm just trying to give people an idea of the disparity between the total population and the actual war force they can be expected to field.
