Well I'm hoping in. I would like to toss Alec in this. Is it okay if I reveal his history IC? I have a habit of doing this with characters (I assure you, he has a full history, and I could write it out if asked).
Name:
Alec Quinn
Age:
17
Gender:
Male
Appearance:
Alec stands tall at around 6'3" or 6'4" depending on the time of day (yes, that's a thing), with green eyes and dark brown hair dyed bright red in the front because why the hell not? He's rather skinny and kinda lanky. You know, one of those guys that just can't seem to gain weight no matter what he does, and since he couldn't care less about working out, doesn't gain much muscle mass either. He's a bit self-conscious about it and therefore refuses to take off his shirt for any reason. In fact, he wears a sweater, hoodie or jacket 365 days a year no matter how hot it is and would rather not take that off either. Because of this he's also rather pale. Not that he goes out much anyway.
He has a sort of longish, narrow face, which is often a little hidden by his hair. He's grown the bangs out a bit, though does next to nothing in terms of styling his hair, so it doesn't seem to be a fashion choice. He wears a lot of dark colours and likes black, blending into the background as much as a 6'3"/6'4" guy with bright red bangs can. He hunches over a bit when he walks or is just standing there, hands often in his pockets and frankly doesn't seem all that confident. Unless he has something to defend, then that's an entirely different story.
Personality:
Alec seems to be stuck between two sides most of the time. On one hand, he's socially awkward, doesn't know how to talk to people and doesn't seem to want to. However, if he has a strong opinion about something, he absolutely cannot hold himself back. Though the second he realizes that he's spoken up, and strongly, he seems to shrink back, as if backing off, or realizing a mistake. This might indicate why someone who dyes their hair bright colours would also seem to want to not be noticed. He's a bit of a strange one.
Incidentally, he's also terribly sarcastic. About everything. Like it's a defence of some kind. Always quicker to make a joke, a comment or a retort than to acknowledge a dangerous situation. However, despite his awkwardness and uncertainty, if he cares about someone, he would defend them with his life. Though he wouldn't fight using violence. He's entirely against that. So much so that he'll even hold back when being attacked. This isn't always a good thing... he can get into quite a lot of trouble by opening his mouth, saying something regrettable to something powerful, getting attacked and then refusing to fight. Bad combination.
But his morals are too strong to ignore, and he'll hold onto his values to the death. He's insecure, though, easily put down and every negative comment cuts through him like a knife, but he's also strong-willed and if there's someone to protect, someone to look out for, he sees this as enough reason to keep going. The second his reason is taken away, though, darker thoughts may enter his mind. He's been depressed before, and it's extremely difficult for him to get over, as his only real tactics are 'ignore it until it gets bad, then don't ask for help'. Again, no good.
He tends not to like asking for help, though, even when he knows he needs it. He feels guilty about everything that goes wrong, though, and often blames himself, though this he keeps inside and doesn't mention. He's fiercely protective of friends, and awkward as all hell with anyone who might be more than a friend. Well... he's awkward anyway with social crap. Talking to people naturally... well, it doesn't come naturally and he tends to overthink things.
Anyway, he is a great friend once he manages to get over the awkwardness a little, and more loyal than anything. He'd do anything for a friend including take a bullet, knife, or any sort of dangerous object being hurled their way. The trouble is, he tends to care more about others than he does for himself, especially once he's attached.
Random facts:
He loves chow mein, and drowns it (and most of the food he eats) in soy sauce.
When he blushes, his whole face practically turns red and he despises it to no end. (and anyone who teases him about it)
He adores music and can play pretty much anything with strings.
Get him drunk and he'll flirt with anyone, but he also hates liquor and any kind of drugs.
He lies a lot, watch out for that.
Brief Biography:
Can I reveal this IC and then gradually add to here as I get it up there?
Talent:
Music. He adores it. Though he can play just about anything with strings, he favours the guitar, which he plays left-handed as he's a lefty. He can play pretty much anything effortlessly on it, which is good as he often feels like it's the only thing he can do (Sports? Nope, Drawing? Nope, Writing? Uh... do lyrics and notes count?). Music is on his mind most of the time, however, he doesn't often like playing for people as he isn't as confident in his skills in front of others as he is on his own. He gets nervous, his hands start shaking, he forgets things, etc. Singing is also something he refuses to do in front of others, however he does sing in the shower (another random fact, huzzah!). He's good with mostly any string instrument as that's what he tends to retreat to when he doesn't want to deal with people, his guitar is his favourite, though, and he finds it relaxing to play. He'll likely jump ten feet if you walk in on him playing something passionate, though. But it's the truth, he's passionate about music and plays with heart... if you can manage to catch him playing something without him seeing you. However, if you ask him to do it to cheer you up, he might go for it.
Relationship to a Parent
Mother
Alec would rather not think about his father at all... At least his mother isn't entirely at fault. Well, she isn't at all. Her only fault is staying in such a corrupt household. But nevermind that.
He doesn't hate his mother... but he isn't entirely sure what his feeling towards her are. Maybe love because... well, she IS his mother, after all. But it's... an odd feeling. Whenever he sees her he feels more... depressed. He isn't sure how to describe it. She's always smoking or cleaning or doing anything to get her mind off of things... So she doesn't really pay much attention to Alec. Which isn't a problem, he'd long since learned he needed to fend for himself. Still, it's a bit sad, seeing her so empty-eyed. He might like to help if he knew how, but already he feels overwhelmed by too many things at once and he's not sure he could handle another.
In short, he cares about his mother, but isn't sure what she thinks of him, if she even considers him at all. And his father, well... that's another story. He doesn't know what he should do, though he wishes he knew how to fix everything for good so no one suffers. His mother just never speaks up anymore, and whenever he does... it doesn't turn out well. But he'll keep fighting... verbally, of course. As it's all he knows to do. And he regrets that there isn't anything more effective he can do for her. He does tend to avoid her a bit... in fact, he avoids his whole house quite often. He feels guilty about it but... it's really hard to work up the state of mind to just... walk in.
