So, I have one group oriented RP that focuses on super heroes in the works at the moment. Check that out here. Seeing as I want to have a few RP's going on at the moment, I decided to start another RP up at the other end of the spectrum of Super heroes, super villains.

The setting itself will be in modern day NYC (or another large bustling city with a lot of bad neighborhoods and gang violence). The RP will follow "The Sinners" a gang made up of seven individuals that each take on a nickname of one of the seven deadly sins. At first, everything is normal, but then a huge gang war breaks out (think "Warriors" movie but instead of one gang being the target, everyone is out for everyone else) and during a large fight in an abandoned building, there's an explosion. Black gas is released throughout the building and everyone inside is knocked out. After awakening, our characters, and the other gangs there, wake up feeling sick. Some of them die, others go crazy, but for a select few (probably 50 or so others besides our characters) they come to realize they have abilities. So what happens?

Well, everything goes back to how it was before, but with powers now. The gang members with powers use them to commit crime, fight other gangs, and other such things. Our characters will, unlike the other gangs, where only a few people got powers, all have received a power that corresponds with the sin they're named after.

At first, I thought I'd just create the powers for each sin and then let you guys put your own spin and style on it, but I decided now that each player can come up with their own power, as long as they can justify it fitting with their sin.

For example I'll be taking one sin off the table (as this will be the sin I will be RP'ing as), sloth. Sloth is basically the sin of being lazy, so how would this translate into a power? Well, I think that having sloth basically be a power house would make the most sense. Strongest, fastest, smartest, etc. Basically a super human. The drawback of course, that also relates this back to the sin of sloth, is that for every minute they use their true power, they have to sleep for 15 minutes afterward a certain amount of time passes without using that power. Basically, sloth could destroy a building within a minute's time by focusing the support structure and breaking them with bare fists, but after that, sloth would be unconscious for 15 minutes.

As long as the power ties in somehow (in sloth's case, the drawback is what makes the power work with the sin) then it'll probably be fine. Like wrath could be able to make weapons out thin air or blood (both their own blood and blood of the enemies they beat) or lust could produce pheromones that put men and/or women under their control.

So, I need at least 6 other people, each person willing to fill up a position of the 6 remaining sins. Let me put a list of them up right now.

-Wrath
-Greed
-Gluttony
-Pride
-Envy
-Lust

I know that there's also a lot of other stories and media that use the idea of the seven sins as antagonists (FMA for example comes to mind) but I just want to do something fun/evil since I'm gonna also be running a Super hero RP. :)

If you're interested, post what role you'd like to fill, and also a small description of what you think would be a good power for that role.

EDIT: I forgot to mention, but this will be a character driven RP with an arc like story that will come into play after we establish the characters and such. I'd actually like to devote the first segment of the RP to arcs that focus on each of the 7 main characters one at a time, helping to establish them and also define their relationships with the other members. I like deep well written characters to be developed throughout the RP, so we can see growth and changes, not just have a CS that's boring and lists everything.

It's not first come first serve, I'm gonna be picking people based on who I believe has the best idea for each character role. So please post your idea, if no one else applies then it'd be safe to assume you're accepted.

Haaaaa, sins are what gets to me. I will put up the notion that I'm really interested, I've a fondness for 'evil' characters, and the idea of a sin as a superpower seems really interesting. Now, as someone who is into psychology and done his research on the seven sins, I'd like to say that Pride is the one I'm most intrigued by as a usage for power.

How to use such a weirdly defined sin though... The idea I'm having is the ability to change appearance in a way that other people idolize, the essence of vanity is being what everyone desires, at of course a cost. The longer the character would use the power ( not mentioning he or she yet ), it would slowly tear and tain the sanity of the person, slowly losing the mental image of how he/she really looked like. It's a really weird draw-back, but I'd imagine that someone who shifts so often in appearance slowly loses the grip on the reality at hand. That and it would definitly affect the character's self-esteem in a negative way after periods of usage.
It's a small draft of what I have in mind, I don't know for sure yet, just wondering what you would think.

Gluttony - Male character of considerable girth who can eat anything with his physics-defying maw and digestive system.

So for pride you say being to able to shift the user's appearance to appear as what someone else idolizes, so basically being able to turn into their idol/role model, like a specific famous person, family member, or other specific people. I like it, maybe for a draw-back the longer the user uses the ability, the more they lose the memory of what they originally looked like, and if they use it for say, over a day, they completely lose memory of what their real self looked like.

For gluttony, yeah this sin is pretty straight forward. I mean the only drawback I can think of is that if he consumes too much at once, he just vomits up everything he eats and can't eat anything else for a while, and that draw-back has some advantages too, being able to basically puke up a mass of objects at people attacking you. Still, for a straight forward sin, the draw-back shouldn't be to big either, in my opinion at least.

Anyways, so we have one entry for pride and one for gluttony, so need at least 4 more submissions (1 for each of the other sins)

Envy can summon objects to his hands/ vicinity, but the catch is that it must be a specific item, not generalized. Say he wants a .45 pistol, he can't just create one out of thin air, he has to specifically summon Jimmy Smith's .45 pistol. If it's just something he's seen in movies or heard about, it won't work for him- he has to know who owns it.

UGH, I was worried about this. Envy and Greed seem like the powers that would be thought up for would be very similar. That power, to me at least, seems like it can work just as much for greed as it could for envy. Still, I like the idea itself and since I only asked for ideas to correspond with the sin, this does meet my parameters so I'm satisfied, unless someone else has any disagreement or complaint with this ability? If not, 3 roles left to be applied for before we can move on to an OOC

Yeah, Envy and Greed are pretty similar in that regard. I think a more appropriate drawback for that power if it was based on greed would be that he can never ever get rid of the stuff he steals that way, or something.

Well I have a few ideas. For Envy, the drawback is that it must be returned after a certain amount of time of use and can't be called upon again for awhile. For greed, the object last as long as the user needs it for, but once the purpose of having it is completed, it disappears permanently. Basically, for envy it has a limited time span before returning, and then a cooldown before that specific object can be used again. For greed, it can last as long as it's needed, but once the need is gone, the object disappears forever. Hell maybe for this role we should have siblings using these powers so that way it makes sense that they're so similar. Unless someone can think of a better power for either sin and using the new power for that sin, and this power for the other.

Another drawback for the Gluttony-villain can be that he has to eat a lot, so he'll need a lot more nourishment than the usual human for all his bodily functions to work well. I can also imagine his system consuming a hell of a lot of energy to digest all the weird stuff he gobbles down. I also imagine he'd be spending quite a bit of time on the crapper, for what isn't spewed back out of his maw. Yes, this is going to be a character who'll definitely win the heroines' affections.

In regards to the envy/greed discussion, I found that Greed is a selfish desire for more of something than is needed, where envy is a desire to possess something that someone else has. Greed is about oneself; a selfish wanting to have more, while envy is about what everyone else owns, and a wanting for those things. At least, that's what I found.

Well, I'm glad everyone is giving their inputs and critiquing their own ideas. Not very often someone will suggest something for their character, then have comments and ideas suggested and they flip out or get defensive. Nice to see everyone being calm and open to alterations and even negative side effects.

Anyways, I do agree that gluttony will have a lot of draw backs as you are suggesting. Maybe his ability should be being able to eat anything and then spit it back out like a cannon? Anyways, having to eat a lot to maintain his energy and having to "purge his waste" makes sense for draw backs.

And thanks for the chime on greed vs envy. So maybe envy's ability should instead being able to copy another's skills? Like upon touching someone if the person touch is an expert in martial arts then envy can touch them and do what they do for a limited time. With special ability users envy could use a weaker version of their power as well.

We can leave greed with the ability to steal objects as long as he knows them, and upon discarding them they are gone forever maybe?

These are just suggestions, not forcing anyone into anything.

Maybe Greed could be something like Marvel's the Juggernaut? If she really wants something, nothing can stop her from getting to it. She can smash through brick walls, tear open safes, and so on. But it only works if its something in the way of getting something she truly wants. If she gets jumped while leaving with it, or when she's not actively after it, she's helpless.

The problem with that really becomes that it's basically a weaker version of Sloth, and only in the aspect of strength and maybe intellect. Why would you want basically a weaker, less viable version of something? That's my thought on the it.

I feel like having the whole "taking objects from anywhere" ability better suits greed than envy, and being able to become more similar to others fits envy better. Again, these are only my thoughts and I don't want to enforce anything since we're still only idea building, just basically listing my opinion on everything.

I appreciate that :) Maybe something more like this.

Greed will have access to a dimension that is basically a bag for him/her. Greed can open this at will, and put anything inside it, or pull anything inside it out of it whenever they want. Greed could place whatever they wanted to in their and take anything from within it out at will. It makes sense too, what's better for Greed, then a bag where you can put everything you want into it without ever running out of space? The drawback would be that they have to actually "open" it by focusing on it and then actively reach in and grab what they want, the object wouldn't just instantly appear from this dimension, or when greed wants to put something in it wouldn't just disappear either.

For envy, instead of taking objects, envy clones them. Upon touching and feeling an object, envy can create a clone of it. It fits the theme, as envy doesn't want to take what others have, just have his/her own version of what others have.

Well, both greed and envy are about more than just possessions, and I feel the two are still too similar. I really liked the idea for Greed's power (kinda reminds me of Gilgamesh from Fate/Zero).

For envy, though, what if he never was himself? He would have the ability to become clones of other organisms, though only one at a time, and not really having an own appearance. He would essentially have access to all the powers, but at the same time he wouldn't really have a power of his own. Thinking this might be a bit over-powered, though.

Ugh, I don't know. Envy is by far the most complicated because it dives into bits of greed and such, which is why I was hoping for straight imitation would be teh easiest whether it's imitating skills/abilities of others, or imitating other objects (aka making clones of said objects).

I have two concepts for envy:

An insanely jealous and bitter girl/woman who seeks to enslave others so that they will be as miserable as she is. Her power allows her to infect those who possess even a shred of envy. The virus will intensify that emotion till it consumes their entire psyche the way envy consumed hers. This makes them her mindless drones. Her grasp over her slaves grows weaker the more people she enslaves.

OR

A power athlete turned villain and loving it. This person has the ability to constantly one up his or her opponent. No one can beat envy with any attack. If you are strong, Envy will be stronger. It is a modified version of power augmentation. This is a bit similar to what was suggested, but you use a more powerful form rather than a weaker version. Suits envy more imo. The drawback is that he cannot initiate attacks. He has to wait to be attacked before he can retaliate.

As for lust....

A man who hunts so that he can feed his demonic harem. He prefers feeding them other beautiful women. If he doesn't feed these demons they will eat him up.

He desires their kisses and caresses as it empowers him. Saying he is addicted is an understatement. He suffers from severe withdrawal symptoms if not given that adoration and physical contact his body craves. The pact gives him insane strength, reflexes and a sharpened sense of smell. When the lovely ladies merge with him he will change into a demon. I got this idea from Shadow Hearts. <.< Oddly the merging is also represents... oh never mind. PG 13.

Pride ...

A man who can modify his body so that he can deflect your attacks. Nothing you do shall be able to hurt him because he is always the last one standing. However he can potentially cause damage to his own internal organs if he pushes himself to the limit. Being so prideful he would always overestimate his capabilities.

That's all I could think of... >.< Pity Gluttony is well covered. I thought it was one of the most interesting to conceptualize.

I was thinking of Gluttony as an anorexic looking teenager with spider queen theme. She will spit corrosive acid that can melt organic matter. The acid softens it such that it reaches a state where she can consume the person or creature whole. Consuming the person will send her metabolism into overdrive and allows her to continue feeding. She will literally eat till she vomits. You know she has been around as you shall find pools of foul smelling acid and half digested remains. Her satiety point is rather scary.

<.< Wrath is the most challenging for me...
