This will not be for a single battle but will instead include multiple battles over time (some free for all, team, and tournaments), all taking place in the same continuity. Start by submitting a character by way of the school id card (the character sheet, which will be added if enough people are interested) and you're good to go. You just have to challenge any other accepted character, then that person accepts the challenge, and then a thread can be created for their fight with the term "Fight School:" in the title, followed by the names of the students fighting and saying "Round 1", "Round 2", etc. if this isn't the first time they fought. Additional things will be added to the title if it's a tournament.

Power levels will be similar to street fighter or many other fighting games. Basically, your character can have minor magical abilities but has to be beatable by non-magical fighters. And by non-magical, everyone can still pull off crazy attacks such as spinning jump kicks, wall jumping, upper cutting while soaring through the air, etc. The type of moves you might see in a fighting game. Any fighting style is accepted into this school. No weapons. The instructors will be better then us and can probably handle around 4 or 5 at a time.

There can be no killing or permanent damage. If your character does so then it will be voided by way of a teacher or other safety officer storming in to stop the attack, no questions asked. One of the people watching the match can detect killing or other overly malicious intent to explain how they can stop the match just in time. The only exception is if the person receiving the damage wills this to happen. Keep in mind that what happens in one thread carries over to all the other ones, so if you accept that your arm is broken then all future fights must reflect this until it has had proper time to heal.

This is a school, so characters should be school aged (college or younger). They do go to normal classes as well, but obviously we will only have threads created showing when they are fighting. You can make it a non-official fight or an official one, which is carried out at various points through ought the school year. There's only two school wide tournaments per year, midterm and finals. There may be smaller ones a bit more often that doesn't involve the whole school up to the discretion of the instructors.

You can leave and reappear at any point, so you don't have to stick around and constantly be in a fight. We can just assume they were off fighting random NPC's during your time away. If someone drops out or takes too long during a battle, the match can be declared time out and the person remaining will be the winner by default.

Anyone interested? Anyone want to be a judge for the matches and character acceptance?

Seems interesting enough, IMP. Am I to assume this will be a system similar to the NMV Fighting system? Or is it going to be handled differently? Depending on that, I am more than happy to either participate, judge, or possibly both. Up to you if you're willing to have me.

The combat will be taking turns getting to react to the opponent's attack and then unleashing your own attack. You cannot hit them in your post when you first unleash the attack, only say you are making the attempt to do so, then if the opponent does nothing to stop said attack in their next post, your next post you can have the damage be done in a realistic manner.

Charging won't be that big of a deal due to magic not being able to get that powerful where it needs long charges. Well, I guess if it's a really well thought out power that would require a long charge then it may be allowed.

I know it was controversial, but possibly being able to stop an opponent before they get their attack finished is a must. Therefore, if you have your character wind up a punch for a second and then having them spin around and slam his fist up into the opponent's chin, it's expected that the opponent can do something to stop him while he's still doing all of that, thus not allowing him to complete his move. It's not like you can always stop an attack; you must realistically be much faster then them to pull it off. So if some nimble guy just does a quick jab then I can't say I interrupt the jab with a powerful, wound up haymaker. If someone tries to abuse this in such a manner then the judge can say there was no interrupt and the attack did get through before it could realistically be interrupted.

I understand what you're trying to do, but that just encourages people to make slim, nimble, speedblitz characters as opposed to larger and more powerful bruisers. Generally, that ends up pissing off a lot of people and creates pissing contests as to who is faster and who reacted first. I planned on bringing a bigger guy in, so I'm sure you can understand where that could be an issue.

Another problem from that is... if I have a guy who is like 6'10" 325lbs if thick muscle... and someone who's like 5'8" 140lbs of speediness... My guy could likely tank repeated blows from them. That would piss THEM off as much as me not being able to hit would piss ME off, you know?

The speedy person should understand that a quick jab won't ko a huge muscle guy. Logically it would be harder to interrupt someone the weaker you are (he might get punched in the face and stil be able to pull off his move) so they'd have to do more dodging.
Without interrupts you can have the slowest guy around doing spins for a matter of seconds and then wind up to deliver a massive blow while they just have to stand there watching the whole time.

We'd just have to make sure we have skilled judges who can make the call if it is handled realistically. If someone gets mad they can't one hit ko with a single swift punch then they will lose the match by the judges call unless they can get their act together.

Edit: for who reacts quicker, generally the advantage would go to the person doing the attack, being quicker to act then react

Edit: for unofficial matches, you can allow the other person to have a weapon such as a shinai if they practice kendo, for example.

We'd need a lot more interest to start this.

For a rule, would you guys like to describe the damage to your own character in your post or leave it to the attacker?

I say that the receiving end should choose the damage, if the attacker doesn't think it's fair they can always talk.

I'm new to the whole fighting shenanigans so this sounds like an okay place to start it being a school and all. Count me in.

I always thought that when describing the damage the attacker took the initiative and post something open ended describing what the damage could be allowing the defender to rationalize how much they took, assuming the blow connected, or dodge and make the point moot.

It didn't seem to be getting too much activity, but I might start it up sometime soon.

Hopefully more interest will be given once that's posted.
