On the subject of that, I'm preparing a post now, in case you were waiting on me. Though it IS 3am here, so don't be surprised if I fall asleep before finishing it.

Edit: Done. Woohoo for holidays, letting me stay up to obscene hours in order to make posts on the internet!

Obviously. We all know that's how squires work, right?

There, there, hunny *pats head* have a cookie and some hot chocolate. We can play Scrabble or Trivial Pursuit?

*giggle-snort*

Anyways... I saw "Frozen" the other night. I gotta say, that Elsa chick had some real creativity stored in her mind (All I ever watch are cartoons TT__TT)

Oh, Frozen is a great movie. I absolutely loved it. I can't wait for Ollum to post; Thrure is just sitting there eating his bread when suddenly a little plant man climbs up into the rafters and waves to him. With a little hummingbird.

I loved frozen. Even if I did watch it with my massively-into-Nordic-culture girlfriend and so had to spent about 15% of the film listening to the references made in the film, and then ten minutes or so afterwards talking about how cool it was that they based a Disney film off of a Hans Christian Andersen story. (Because apparently the little mermaid doesn't count for some reason.)

Edit: *tries not to seem like a stalker as I point out that Ollum hasn't posted anywhere in 4 days, despite being in at least 3 ongoing RPs*

The Little Mermaid doesn't count because it's not Nordic enough. XD

And that's... Disappointing... :c

Well, I am proud to say that H.C. Andersen was danish (as am I, in case you didn't read that in the OP). Sure, he was from Fyn, which is like the butthole of Denmark, but still...
Honestly, The LIttle Mermaid, or Den Lille Havfrue as it is in original danish, is a horrible story. At least the original one by H.C.Andersen. In fact, most of H.C. Andersen's stories were far from suited for children. The man was a real pervert. Snedronningen, uhh, I mean, "The Snow Queen" as the original title for the H.C. Andersen story that Frozen is based on, is actually far from the same.
Also, several of the "Silly Symphony" mini cartoons back from ... way back, are actually based on H.C. Andersen fairy tales. Like "The Ugly Duckling", "The Little Match Girl" and so on. There's some stuff with the Tin Soldier snuck into several of the shorts as well, but it doesn't matter.

I was forced to analyse so many of H.C. Andersen's tales that I've grown a bit... irked, by them.

Also, by "Nordic culture", what exactly do you mean? Viking stuff? Nordic Mythology? I'm kinda Nordic (not "kinda"... I am), so I really don't know what is considered Nordic culture around the world.

I believe in Ollum...

As far as I know 'Nordic' is Norwegian, Danish, Swedish, Icelandic, Faroese, Finnish, and Greenlandic. At least, those are the areas that make up the Nordic countries. So... As I see it anything people think are Scandinavian that aren't actually a part of Scandinavia (in addition to actual Scandinavia, of course).

I want to believe in Ollum. I hope he pops back in.

She likes preeetty much anything that comes out of any Scandinavian (And sometimes psuedo-scandinavian) country. Less the mythology as much as everything else. The general history, modern day culture, stuff like lego, etc. You'll be pleased to know her favourite country is Denmark.

Maybe if we started an Ollum fanclub we could entice him back into the thread.

I think Iceland is the best because their language is closer to Old Norse than any of the other North Germanic languages and they still use patronymics/matronymics instead of surnames. Not really, I don't actually have a favourite. :D

But yes, let us start a fanclub! First club activity is insistent messages to Ollum asking him to return! I see no way this could possibly go wrong!

Wow... I didn't know this little gnome of a country had fans. Kudos to Denmark for being awesome, back in the day.
Personally, I'm a great fan of culture. Period. Just about any culture. I love history and different religions (Though Nordic mythologi is my favorite because all of them are gods and goddesses of whoring, in some way xD)
Lego is amazing. I played with legos. My kids play with legos. Everyone plays with legos. I'd build giant cities and grand castles ... or labyrinths for my hamsters when I was little. All sorts of amazing things came from those legos and only my imagination was the limit. Now it all comes in packages with instructions on how to build it. They broke lego.
Icelanders (are they called that in english?) are weird. And they're not all named after their fathers and such. They have ... uhh... cykelstier... bicycle paths ..? I don't know what to call them in english... Anyways, they have those as the only other Nordic country, so that's nice.

In the heart of the fanclub, I will make a giant banner and march down the streets of Copenhagen! (danes see worse every day)

I'd term them 'Icelandic people'.

We have them in England, I think. Special lanes on roads just for bikes, right?

I may visit Copenhagen during the inevitable gap year I'm going to have to take. Seems like a fun place.

Yes, you have them in England, but England isn't a Nordic country. They don't have them in any other of the Nordic contries, which is dangerous since lots of danes go on "bike vacations" where they just ride their bikes all over the world. My uncle did that last year, crazy son of a ... woman.

I don't live in Copenhagen. I can't stand big cities. I lived in Hjørring, in the northern part of Jutland (the big half-island, which is shaped like a gnome or goblin). I've been to Copenhagen a few times, though. It's like going to another country. They're weird over there. Its also the only city in Denmark that bothers with a gay parade and all that, 'cause the rest of us just don't care enough.

Half-island? I think you mean peninsula. :P

Ha, Jutland juts out into the sea. I find that funny. XD

I kinda want to go somewhere in Scandinavia. Well, Europe in general really. Too bad it's way too expensive.

Bleh, it's called a half-island (halvø) in danish :p

Jutland is Jylland in danish, which actually means something along the lines of "the main land".

Funny how that works, really. It's expensive to go anywhere in Europe, even if you live in Europe. Cheap to get to Asia, though. I really wanna go to China and Japan.
If you don't like a lot of old buildings and undisturbed nature, don't come to Denmark. We take pride in our nature and our history.
