Throwing this in casual as well, since this might get some nods from the high casual crowd. Though I'm not sure if the actual thread will end up in ADV or CAS.

First things first, the idea is not dissimilar to TJByrum's own three months ago, so I do plainly realize that this is hardly an unique idea. I like the Game of Thrones universe but unlike some other writers on this site (of few I have met), I am not as familiar/comfortable as I'd like to be with roleplaying it in any capacity. I was introduced to concurrent/sandbox roleplays a few years ago and I think they have the potential to be the right "mode" so to speak for a concept roleplay like this one. With a few of my previous commuted roleplays seemingly dying I thought I'd see if I could get any bites for this sort of thing. As this is sort of a 'workshop' sandbox, I'm open to ideas, advice, suggestions and the like.

This is the known world and it has seen many changes over the course of nearly three-thousand years of recorded history. The roleplay’s concept is to be central to the continent in the top-left—Orlandis; a place that is very reminiscent of medieval central Europe (Terijas, Gradiar, Reinoa, Veronia, Euritia), Iberia (Antari, Caeli), and Scandinavia (Perhyr, Skavia, Erayis). The kingdoms you see above you were once comprised of many petty kingdoms several hundreds of years ago. The last time Orlandis was unified was over three-hundred years ago (which brought the independent realms as you see them). There is no “Iron Throne” or equivalent as there has nobody strong enough to conquer the realm as you see it. I have a brief timeline if I get enough interest and such.

However, I’ve left only “so much” defined such as: religion, ethnicity, and a degree of history. So there’s a lot of room for a writer to forge.

I can also answer any individual questions on top of hearing out suggestions and thoughts, of course.

As a sandbox roleplay, I don’t want to demand people to all be “kings” as the flavor of the world’s development as a roleplay should show a lot of different walks of life. There could be a sellsword story you want to tell, a political upheaval arc, or something that your imagination has thought about that aren’t those two clearly.

As GM my role outside of telling my own stories, will be helping guide the setting with events from non-playable actions as I doubt we need to have a writer for each individual country. I love multiple perspectives and throwing something out there.

What you write may affect others and what I write likely will as well. This isn’t an authoriatian show, everybody can create a possible outcome that affects things around them. If a former crowned prince is suddenly off in the Atularis Ocean hunting down slavers then there is a likelihood that somebody will hear about it and somebody important will hear about it and so on.

Of course player-on-player interaction is encouraged, etc.

I'm trying to think what else I should say in a general interest check that I might of missed outside of big info stuff a thread's OOC would have.

So.. yeah, there you go?

Sounds great, Gowi, and you obviously put a lot of work into it so far. I'm interested. Will be watching developments closely.

I'm trying to really put together the timeline and overview to make this largely more cohesive but that's easier said than done, haha.

You'd probably be more use than me. Gowi's been prodding me for weeks and I've been creatively bankrupt on the world

Still interested. Just... Need to think up an idea, is all. Most I have right now is to just go with as far east as I can and make my character a Tsaritsa or a Tsarevna, but I'm not sure if that's a good idea or not. ^^;

Also maybe interested in playing a Merchant Captain/totally-not-a-pirate-at-all-honest from one of the Island republics. Or someone from Not-Iberia. Sorry for the doublepost, tired and not thinking super-clear

I'm looking at playing a rather specific character archetype. I'll probably need your okay, Gowi, but I'll wait until everything pans out a bit more.

I'm interested in this. I'd like to play a common foot soldier, if that's possible.

Just do understand if you write a POV of "totally-not-a-pirate-at-all-honest" that so far my idea on cannons are very primitive (I know, you'd think in this amount of time they'd be at least early imperial age tech, but lol) to the equivalent of very early feudal era. Though I might have the people from the arabic/african-esque continent have some grasp of the concept. Hard to decide since I don't even know if gunpowder has been invented/discovered yet. I do like the idea of people approaching stories in this field of adventure and such though so don't think I'm discouraging anyone. =D

I'm trying to think how you'd intend to do a soldier's POV, so that's a curious idea given there are plenty of places for soldiers to be stationed. You see that stretch of land over the Sea of Echoes that Perhyr owns? It's held to be a sort of lookout for pagan raiders ("not-wildlings/freefolk/vikings"), there's no grandoise wall (great wall, etc.) but there are plenty of forts and small stretches of stone or palisade walls probably though.

HA! You don't need cannons to be a pirate! Ya just need swords, plunder and copious amounts of booze!

That said playing a pirate appeals because with the sea as a backdrop it's potentially possible for me to get involved in all sorts of things, not to mention possibly even travel around or give me reasons to interact with folks if needed. An Arabian pirate could potentially be pretty fitting and knowledge of gunpowder-maybe would just be a nice bonus if anything although historically speaking the further east you go the more and earlier you find knowledge of gunpowder until you hit China, which has had primitive firearms in the form of huǒ qiāng since the 10th century or so and gunpowder bombs potentially earlier. In any case if he did have gunpowder he'd probably mainly use it for intimidation if anything, and I don't find cannons necessary for a pirate to be awesome, ramming, arrows and boarding actions all around though!

I mainly suggested one of the island republics because of placement and also because democratically elected representatives are apparently a pirate thing, although one of the middle-eastern ones could work just as well.

Yeah, it definitely leave a lot open for sure. I'm definitely curious how you are going to spin the origin of getting the ship together, the ambiguity of everything and so on. =)

I'd certainly be interested in something akin to this, though I'd prefer to glance at the lore a bit before I fully commit. I've been toying around with the idea of having a religious figure as my main character, probably in the form of a member of whatever ecclesiastical/ecclesiocratic organization is present and/or prominent in this setting.

If you need help with establishing the lore for your universe, I'd love to pitch in. I have a rather large reserve of material for other (now-dead or long-forgotten) RPs which could be retrofitted to merge with whatever setting you already have. Anyway, if you need a hand, send me a PM and I'll gladly help.

Oh...I'll find a way. XD Maybe just go with a city guard or royal guard, but still a soldier nonetheless.

And about the gunpowder thing...I dunno, you could have gunpowder weapons be slow, inaccurate without expensive and custom machining and sometimes downright dangerous for the user.

I'm just not sure if I want gunpowder invented/discovered yet is all I'm saying, lol. Though I am leaning towards if it is; it's bulky, expensive, and high risk high reward.

I guess it would depend on if he's already an established pirate/merchant at the start of the story, which country his country of origin would be and what their culture is like and overall what strikes me as most interesting. Speaking of, how much worldbuilding should we do or lore should we take liberties or help with, and I'm leaning more towards one of the Middle Eastern Countries depending on what they and the three different island areas are like.

That's fine, I can easily be a not-pirate without any gunpowder at all if necessary. At the moment I'm leaning towards a more middle eastern not-pirate, but I'm not sure from which country. Also totally-not-a-pirate may have more longterm goals than simply getting rich.

I have so little developed, but there is a bit of lore in stone (mostly with Orlandis which is the continent with Terijas and such). There is a LOT of wiggle room for players to do what they want with their own ideas of development and such.
