I would become the wrath... Yes, the wrath, Wrath of Law! Justice in it's highest instance, my word would be final and my word of condemnation would bring certain death. No criminal, no evildoer would be safe once i uncover them, and all filth that poisons our lives would be wiped from existance by ME!

I wouldn't burn it. I'd keep it, but I probably wouldn't go writing people's name in it just because I don't like them. I'd keep it around for when, and if, it ever has to be used. If another Hitler comes along, maybe. I'd write his name and then retreat back into my uneventful life as the unknown hero.

Seriously, I'm glad most people don't have something like this because the responses have been largely awful.

To be honest, I have thought about this.

I do have a list of people (not a long one) who I'd like to kill off without consequence but when it came down to it, I would feel too awful about doing it. I hate to admit that, but I would feel awful. Sure, I'd love to stab certain people in the face but when it came to pull the trigger (of sorts) I would chicken out and hide it in my room. If I tossed it and someone found it (like someone who may not like me) then I'd never sleep a wink. So I'd keep it if for the fact that I'd feel safer knowing I had it and someone else didn't.

Though there's the chance of me coming home in a pissy mood and using it when I'm in a rage but...I'd like to give more thought to using it. Killing politicians or annoys celebrities wouldn't probably do much help, create more of a mess I think.

I'd do a Gandalf and refuse to use it.

I'd try to use it for good, but I don't know that anyone should have that kind of power.

Well, the ability to kill anybody at a distance, with likely no consequences would be...well, I don't want to say 'too much power for one person', but it's too tempting to overused. It's like having a cheat code in a video game. You use it once to get past a really difficult part and try never to use it again. But then you do. Eventually, you're using the cheat code every ten seconds.
Then again, maybe not so much. Especially if it makes the news. While I usually don't like to rely on the goodwill of humanity, there is a certain amount of inherent goodness in most of us.
If I had such a weapon, I'd try my damnedest to limit how often it's used, but there are a few major figures who's death I believe would greatly improve the world. But, even then, I'd really have to pray about it before actually using it.

I use it to manipulate society into something less harmful and corrupt, by using heart attacks as a motivational tool.

I can't say that my own response would be the same, but I agree that this guy has the right idea.

Personally I wouldn't know what to do with it. I could attempt to use it to change the world, but I'm not clever enough to efficiently do that and I know it. I wouldn't use it to murder people I dislike, at least at first; If I tried it once or twice I think I could get used to the lack of consequences. I'm too poor a judge of character to choose someone to give it away to, but I wouldn't dare burn it, at least at first, again. I might end up in a halfhearted internal argument between destroying it to stop myself from getting too comfortable with killing for trivial reasons and keeping it just in case some very obvious way to change the world for the better occurs. I doubt that would last long, though; I'd end up burning it and then spending the rest of my life thinking 'what if?'.

Point is murder is murder, and a lot of the reasons posted are pretty petty.

I also don't buy the whole "make the world a better place" argument, because if you're judging the value of someone's life based off the news or internet, then you really are making a rash, uninformed decision to take somebody's life based entirely on hearsay. History is full of wrongfully accused people and if you're basing your choice off government propaganda, then you're a fool.

Point is, nobody should ever decide who lives or dies or judge the value of life. Just because you scribbled a name in a book doesn't wash your hands of murder. It just means you're too much of a coward to do the job yourself.

Run down the list of dictators. Putin, Kim Jong Un, both Castros, what's his face in Belarus, the Ayatollah of Iran, all by natural causes.

Then Al-Qaeda list, Cartel kingpins, etc.

There are some people the world is legitimately better off without. Death may be a bit much without any warning, but since I'm allowed to write in the details, it'd be easy to give them a wake-up call then give them some more time in this world to right their wrongs, exact time (if any) depending on how shitty of a human being they truly are. I'd have to start with the worst of the worst (a certain "music" icon comes to mind, but shall remain unnamed) and from there filter out who does or doesn't get their lives back on track. If they're just going to be douchebags to everybody else and waste their time getting into trouble and drug scandals, are they even living to begin with?

I wouldn't say I'd re-shape the world, though. Simply pick off a bottom rung, based on what I know instead of what I think. That, or I'd use it one time then never touch it again. Maybe use it one more time when I'm older and ready to go the way I want to.

One thing people seem to forget is that if you ever use a Death Note, you can neither go to heaven nor hell. Your soul belongs to the Shinigami who originally owned the Death Note.....
