I like rPs on this site. I REALLY like tabletop RPGs.

So I thought, why not try both at once and see what happens?

You will be playing one of a circle of friends that gets together every weekend to roll dice for a generic fantasy game. Within the tabletop universe, you are a merry band of adventurers, seeking to destroy an evil Lich. OUTSIDE the game universe, the circle of friends is tearing itself apart- but why that's happening is completely up to you and what you write into the CS.

This RP will require the players make 2 characters- one in game and one "IRL". Added to this, I'll be asking you bring a 1d6 to this party to resolve combat and preserve randomness in the tabletop element (we'll be playing on the honor system here).

Finally, I will only be GMing the tabletop section. The player section will have to be driven by someone else- I don't think my work schedule will allow me to do both.

Any interest?

Definitely interested. You know they made a videogame kind of like this? I think its on android or something, but there's no drama between the people playing the RPG, just dork humor. I guess I would want to play a college drop-out who is starting his own business, a business that is off to a shaky start, named Greg Puwolski. Bean pole, glasses, dark hair and eyes. He plays a Drow Rogue--if not allowing Drow as a playable race, I understand, and will go Gnome Illusionist. Never actually played Gnome Illusionist, seems fun but also great way to die before reaching lvl. 2. Anyways, really dig the concept.

Coolness! I was going to keep it very free form, as much about testing my own abilities as a budding DM as telling a good, fun story! I think we just need one more and I'll be happy to make the OOC up.

Any ideas about relative power levels of the in-game characters? I understand keeping actual game mechanics to a minimum, and the story is more important than the specifics of +whatever freezing longswords or attack bonuses, for instance, I guess I am just curious because I have played a lot of D&D and feel that the information I have as a person a character in this RP would probably have.

Hmm... Good question. I'm tempted to say "you're all level 1 noobs" since I've never played as the DM before. And yes, story is going to be bigger than the actual rolling.

For character creation, I learned an awesome way to tie characters together at a con. We're going to play a game of "Yes and/but..."

Example: "My character owns the tavern where the adventure begins!"

"Yes, but: Your tavern is going to be closed by the royal bank tomorrow for failure to pay taxes, and my character is te tax collecter!"

First, what age would this be? I'm thinking age of university, obviously with not everyone having enrolled and so forth, so some students, some workers, someone who dropped and enrolled again etc. What's your take on this?

OOC: I'm tempted to go with 'The Guy/Girl that's becoming too good for the gang'. Joined at the start when he/she was still young and geeky, braces & dressed by his/her mom and so forth but that grew to become good looking with a new circle of friends who happen to be elitish douches. Is kind of a two face asshole as there's a lot of acting to fit in and even if the inner geek within that person fits more with the old gang, it's a step up joining these new people. Tries to keep interaction with both groups separated and so forth. Cue "Oh, I barely know these guys" moment when the two circles encounter.

IC: Cheesy Paladin lancer. Calls his horse tact and his lance diplomacy so when he says "I use tact and diplomacy to deal with the situation" he means he's charging the fools

You're correct about the age range. Everyone is at the age when they're going to move on in life from youth but still wants to keep the old ties.

Paladin is temporarily approved. If Mars posts or another person expresses interest, I'm good to go.

You could name the paladin "Sir Vant" as an additional play on words. I knew some guy who did that with a character whose back story was that he was another PC's squire prior to being knighted. Yeah, if Gnome Illusionist is cool I will definitely play that. Level 1? OH NO'S!!!
