If you are an orphan, why are you?: At the age of 9, Darren's parents were shot and killed in the midst of a robbery gone awry. The murderer could not bring himself to kill a child, and therefore ran despite Darren being a witness. Said murderer was found dead in his home several years later, mutilated and headless.
Bio: As a child and well into his teenage years, Darren was fascinated with horror. He read the likes of Lovecraft and Poe as a young child, and, though he was not opposed to viewing the same tomes multiple times, moved on to writing his own fiction, for which he was sent to multiple therapists as a result of its graphic nature. One evening after returning home from a therapist's visit, Darren and his parents came upon their house being ransacked by a young man in his mid twenties. Upon being charged by Darren's father, the criminal discharged three rounds of his revolver into the other man's chest and abdomen. The fourth he used to end Darren's mother, and the fifth he would have used to kill Darren himself, if not for a sudden moral dilemma. Darren spent the next few years with his elderly uncle, a time within which he tracked down and subsequently killed the dispatcher of his parents. He left no trace, and the case is considered cold. His uncle perished in his sleep from a life of heavy smoking and drinking, placing Darren in his present situation.
