I believe that the Dwemer, using the Heart of Lorikhan, ascended from the mortal plane and departed Nirn to wander the stars. I hope we never see them again, they are gone, but their legacy remains.

That is a possibility...

BrobyDDark said
Did you forget that Alduin was the Eater of Worlds and that Dwemer were Tamriel's equivalent of Dwarves? It might have taken some time, but Alduin could have easily destroyed the world if the Dwemer were still around, sending their automatons at it and also blocking the path for the Dovahkin. As we've seen in the games the Automatons attack without discretion, and I severely doubt the Dwemer would program them to not kill the previously faceless Dragonborn when approached. It's basically a 'stall the only thing that can kill it while trying to kill it' situation.

Not really.. The nordic belief system is rather barbaric/Celtic so I would take most of what their beliefs say with a grain of salt. Their belief was that Alduin was Akatosh himself (when even Alduin called himself the first born of akatosh) and that Alduin completely destroyed the world before to start a new one (the current world of Nirn)... So While I'll agree that the Dragonborn was the only known being that was able to defeat alduin at the time (with the help of the other spirits of the most heavy duty dragonslayers of their time, all of which previously fought Alduin before and "banished" him) I can honestly say I disagree. The Dragons were yes, almost as powerful as the deadra themselves but the dwemer were a major threat to them as well and they have been gone for quite a long time as were they hitting major technological advances in record times with overly advanced technologies. If they were able to continue their creations and if they never disappeared, I think that even Alduin and the deadra would have some struggles against them. Though if Blitz's theory is true as well, We'll probably NEVER see them and they probably learned to even surpass the gods of Nirn or would hold equal power to them.

Humm.... For some reason, I have a feeling that it's a case of 'Absolute power corrupt absolutely' with the Dwemer.
They did make a lot of advanced technology and even machinery that still works centuries after they were gone, but maybe whatever achievements they managed to achieve got into their head and they bit more than what they can chew. Whether it was the Daedras got pissed at them or experimental tech gone wrong.

Basically this... Plus the Chimer (AKA: pre-curse Dunmer) gone to war with the Dwemer and supposedly (out of their religious beliefs) Azura went all "fuck this" at some point, cursed the Chimer to have their the color of ash and their eyes red to represent the color of all the blood they split mercilessly and then made all of the Dwemer disappear. If you play Morrowind you could actually meet the last surviving Dwemer specimen (HE'S FUCKING FAT AS HELL!!!) somewhere. He got the Corpus Disease and talks about his people but STILL not useful much information is given about how his people disappeared.

He went out to the liquor store during a big party and when he got back, everyone was gone.

Look it up. Totally canon.

He never said why he went to another plane in the universe (and if he did I missed it.) so you're probably correct in this... You can't get the good shit in Nirn anymore...

I can tell...

Though now they're fixed.

Yeah that's basically the main theory why they are gone and it's basically is what I believe happened though I think that the deadra intervened and wiped them out or they succeeded but are trapped in another plane of existence ("purgatory" as ghosts)... My final theory came from Skyrim, which is like Alduin they were sent forward in time to a very distant era due to succeeding in striking the heart... The first two theories, in my opinion, are more likely to happen than the third.

Though I think that it's safe to assume that no matter what they would have been the most powerful race in all of Nirn if they were left alive to continue their work for godship.

Finally though, I think that if the Dwemer were to ever come back (some very fucking magical way), our favorite NPC, M'aiq the liar, would say something and let us know.

Okay, to start off, I'm currently in the middle of my n'th Skyrim gameplay, and is continuing the Main Quest after finding Esbern.

My character, Delphine and Esbern were making their way to the Sky Haven Temple from Markath. Just before we got to Kolskeggr Mine, we met with a Thalmor patrol group, and I was like 'Ooookaay... let's see if they recognize the Blades behind me...'
As it turns out, they didn't recognize the Blades who they have been hunting for like years following behind my character, and kept walking. Likewise, Delphine and Esbern were also ignoring the Thalmors.

So, I shrugged and continued on for a little bit before taking out my bow and turned around. Without further ado, I shot the trio Thalmors. They went down pretty fast as my bow had been enchanted and upgraded pretty heavily. Suddenly, someone was attacking me. And I was like, 'What the...? Did they have a fourth member or something??' I turned around and .... Surprise, surprise. It was DELPHINE who was attacking me!!!

[rants on]
WTF, woman??? You're one of the Blades! The Thalmors are your enemy, and you're attacking me for killing your enemy???

She just gained another level in my B*tch O' Meter. Something I didn't think was possible after I pretty much hated her for telling me to kill Paarthunax in my previous gameplays.
[rants off]

Just want to get that off my chest. Anyone else wants to join in giving her the hate?

I've had a moment where the slave they had with them began attacking me after I shot one of the Thalmor in the face. It's a bug. Or, more likely in her case, poor programming.

Let's just write it down as maybe she thought you were about to blow the cover of the Blades.

This whole discussion about the lore would be more interesting I'd the characters in the world weren't made of cardboard, and moved as stiffly as cardboard too.

Hehehe, I get that, it's just that she's already annoyed the heck out of me in my previous gameplays so this one is simply added to 'another thing I hate about Delphine' list. And I just have to rant about it.

And spam being spam, the discussion soon turned towards TES lore, which I don't mind at all. They're interesting!

Yes. The pixel faces. Better than Oblivion shadow squares though. Much better.

Also, do like the world. Just don't care for the conflicts in it generally.

I like the Falmer though. They are very neat to find. Always a delight to fight them.

Well, with the graphic technology keep getting better, it's logical that graphics and animation of the newer series should be better than the previous. Though... seeing as I haven't play Oblivion (Skyrim being the first of TES game that I played)... 'Oblivion shadow squares'? o-O They use shadow squares for face there?

I'm not sure whether I like the Falmer or not, all I know is that trying to sneak or pass through their territory could be one of the most irritating thing in the... behind..
I become quite paranoid whenever I saw their hidey holes on the walls. Never knew when or which one would suddenly spew a Falmer in front of you... or on top of you...

tl;dr: Anti-aliasing hadn't quite made the full jump into procedural (situational/universal) rendering yet. So in certain lighting situations where a light is cast across a person's face, having anti-aliasing enabled on higher settings attempts to smooth out the jagged edges of the face--which causes the shadows to be "smoothed" against the face in a series of squares.

Ergo: Shadow squares.

Later on the technology evolved and shadow layering became a thing, shadow squares disappeared.

Still hilarious to see sometimes though. Almost as good as the characters literally locking up save for their faces when they talk to you, where they stare at you, unwaveringly, raping your soul in their minds being paranoid.

I like them for that reason actually. That sneaking about they can surprise you in their lairs. It shakes things up from the usual "I'm just going to pick them off one by one and there's nothing they can do" strategy of stealth in Skyrim. I also like that if you stand right in front of a Falmer, even in broad daylight, they can't see you. They're legitimately blind and react to sounds.

I have a problem with this. Who? What deadra? Who among them would actually care and would they have the power to do that to an entire race?
Also, Deadric princes have ego problems sometimes, don't you think they would brag about wiping an entire race off the map?

Ascension man, and stop talking about the Dwemer coming back, I really hope they don't.

Also, didn't you already post evidence that this wasn't the case? Daedra usually don't get involved with the conflicts of man unless it benefits them or their worshippers, and even then only a few actually care for said worshippers.
