Dead County
Current Order Deadline is Friday, May 23rd, 15:00 Eastern Time
"When there is no more room in hell, the dead shall walk the earth."
Welcome to Paradise County, an idyllic and diverse landscape of rolling meadows, lush forests, beautiful mountains and serene badlands. There is one catch to living in Paradise... It is teeming with the undead. Civilization is on the brink of collapse as the zombie virus spreads across the globe. Paradise County had the advantage of being isolated between Lake Placid in the north, Custard Mountains to the east, and the Sinjeway Badlands to the south-west. Now, despite the natural defences that sheltered the county, the zombie outbreak has struck.
You begin the game as a lone character amidst the chaos of civilization's collapse. As the game progresses your character will become the leader of a faction vying for control of the county. Before you become a leader, however, you must first sign up.
How To Play
Dead County is an RPG survivalist/horror that will feature weekly updates, the county itself will be shaped by your RP. Players will have 2 types of orders, with an additional order for rogues. Survival orders are anything from scrounging for supplies, search and rescue to gain survivors and trade missions targeting other players. Combat orders are issued to target any deemed threats against your group. Whether it be other players, NPCs or zombie hordes. Combat orders are risky, as they will cost the lives of your followers, however they are necessary when seeking to gain new territory, and raiding NPCs and other players for supplies, Rogue Orders are special orders for rogues that yield a 50/50 chance of success. Use this order wisely in conjunction with combat orders to wage sneak attacks or recon to gain an upper hand in battle, or make them stand alone to raid supplies from unknowing players and NPCs.
Orders are PM'd to me, deadline will be posted here in the OOC thread, typically once a week. Orders should be straight forward, but feel free to add details you would like to see in the updates. Include the name of your character and faction in your orders.
Starting Out
As the game begins, civilization is on the verge of collapse. It is this opening turn that will determine your starting stats and location. The first turn will take place over the course of 6 months in game time. In this time frame, your character will emerge as a leader of a group of survivors. You should put some thought into how you spend this time during humanities fall. Will you be uniting your family and finding some place to hunker down? Or perhaps you will spend the time raiding and pillaging throughout the county? What you do is up to you, however, you will need to establish a base camp. All I need for your first order is a brief description of your activities during this 6 month period and your top two choices for your base camp. After this initial phase, the game will truly begin, with factions emerging to survive and dominate throughout the county.
Select your top two territories for your base camp. Each territory is relatively similar in game play terms, each offering NPCs and threats to deal with, the main difference being the setting for your RP. The first update will reveal your success during this period, and where your character ends up.
Surviving the Apocalypse
Once the first turn is over, and players have set up their base camps across the county, the game can truly begin. Your main goal should be to horde enough supplies to rebuild settlements that will draw more survivors to your group, and offer greater protection against the zombies. Supplies are hard to come by, and expect other players and NPCs to attempt to raid your supplies, should they become desperate. Establishing other base camps (combat order) in new territories will further cement your position in the county, and offer greater protection against zombies and other enemies.
Base Camp
a base camp is vulnerable to threats, containing only fires and lookouts to keep survivors safe. Your first priority should be to upgrade your base camp into a thriving settlement. An investment of 50 boxes of supplies is required to upgrade your camp.
Survivors
Your loyal followers, survivors of the apocalypse and supporters of your cause. Your survivors look to your for leadership, but are a precious resource in Dead County. Let your survivors dwindle to 0, then you will be unable to conduct combat operations. Survivors tend to have a will of their own, and will leave your group should things grow dire, or be persuaded to join other groups.
Supplies
Supplies are measured in boxes, including food, building supplies and arms. If you let your supplies grow scarce, survivors could leave your group.
Combat
Combat, like most other things in Dead County, is decided by the luck of the die. A 10 sided die will be cast for each side in every confrontation, with a bonus die given to those with a solider trait. A casualty roll is then thrown for each participant. Natural Leaders have a lesser chance to win battles, however their innate ability to draw more survivors to their cause, typically means they will have greater numbers and more endurance in any prolonged conflict. Rogues will be able to capitalize on their special order to gain a battle bonus leading up to any fight, with a 50/50 chance of success. Should a rogue fail in their order, word will spread across the county. Enemies will become aware of their attempted deceit and may seek vengeance. A successful Rogue strikes from the shadows, and should they succeed, not a whisper will be breathed of their victory.
Zombies and other threats lurk across the county, with a little luck and perseverance, you could emerge as the leader of a new civilization amidst the ashes of the fall. Good luck!
