Prelude: The Fall

Infected Reported County Wide
September 3rd, 2015

"Ladies and Gentlement, we now bring you the latest on the ongoing crisis striking the nation and our county.

Reports of civil unrest and chaos continues to be wide spread, with much of the mid-west gone dark, along with the eastern seaboard.

Meanwhile, here at home, strict continuation of martial law has been renewed in light of county wide reports of infected persons across Paradise. The Mayor's Office has issued a statement ordering residents to remain in their homes, to avoid contact with the infected, and obey all commands given by National Guard Personnel, County Sheriff Deputies and PFPD. Evacuation procedures for Paradise Falls have been cancelled until further notice, and Safe Zones have been abandoned. For the safety of yourself and your family, officials advise barricading your home and await rescue. The Safe Zone at Mercy Hospital has been overrun with infected, along with St.Patrick's Elementary School, and Appalia Town Hall. Do not attempt to reach these areas.

In an effort to stop the flow of infected into the county, National Guard troops have blown the Custard Hills Tunnel, passage into the eastern state is now impossible by road, and should not be attempted. Paradise Sheriff's Office has reported infected in and around the area of Wick's Marsh and Sinjeway Badlands. Attempting to escape the county lines through these areas is highly dangerous. Residents are advised that military operations are in progress and any residents in breach of curfew will be shot on sight. Remain indoors and await rescue!

The situation across the county is decaying rapidly Stay in doors... stay safe, and pray for all those touched by this disaster..."
*PssssSshshhhhhhh*

(After signing up, feel free to begin your RP in this turbulent time of the collapse.. This time frame will take us forward through six months in which zombies will reduce Paradise County into a state of severe decay, Your primary concern should be to find shelter as civilization collapses. Good luck, and have fun!)

As Bobby heard the news,he started to block the entrances and close the curtains so the infected can not see him.He checked his refrigerator, the food and water is enough to keep him alive for 3 days just to get rescued.Bobby muted his TV just to keep updated with the news and waited patiently sitting on the sofa.

Escape from County Road 12
September 19th, 2015

The rain came down in frigid sheets, forming shallow pools across the rocky fields that nestled at the base of the Custard Hills. The road itself resembled a stream, the rain water flowing down the paved highway from the Custard Tunnel, or what was left of it. The sun sank low in the western sky, casting a crimson glow upon the edge of the rain clouds. On the road ahead, bending into the foothills came the shambling bodies of hundreds of the undead, proceeded by their guttural moans, intent on their goal; the line of national guardsmen that maintained their post behind a row of sandbags.

Corporal Hennesee sneered as the decomposing bodies of the undead came into view up the road. "Ammo check!" He barked, The sergeant took a nasty bite by a geek three days prior, succumbing to infection shortly after, leaving him in command of this platoon. There was only eight of them left. It had been another five days since they heard anything from command. Their orders, when they left the temporary command post at the Paradise Falls Police Station, had been to guard the pass from incoming infected. Its been almost a week since they heard anything from command. The odd panicked dispatch came over radio, never good. Whatever the case, the infected were all around them, in Paradise Falls, in the forest, the badlands, the swamp and along the river. Staying here didn't make a lick of sense, other then to get themselves killed.

As the undead drew closer, a private reported their ammo situation. Hennessee's scowl deepened as the answer did not please him. They had too little ammo to stand against this horde.

"That's it, men!" Hennessee hollered, shouldering his M16. "We're getting the hell outta here!" He backed up to the platoon's truck, hopping in the back, motioning a nearby private to get behind the wheel. The rest of the platoon eagerly climbed aboard the truck. As the vehicle lurched forward, Hennessee looked out, watching the undead scramble over the sandbags, where they had been a few moments before. With a sigh, he took a seat on one of the benches that lined the truck wagon. Beside him sat Private First Class Williams, smiling his usual cocky grin.

"Well, Corporal, you have a plan?"

Hennessee shook his head. "Beyond putting some distance between us and that horde, I got no fucking idea!"

((thought I would jump in with an IC of my own, setting up one of the NPCs that will be around for the coming turns.))

Paradise Lost
September 3rd, 2015

Mother Wolfe grew pale, as did the six other nuns clustered into the small office. Pppsssshhhh! Pppppsssshhh! The television acted as if it had not just delivered the gravest news in its time. Some of the sisters formed crosses over themselves and Mother Wolfe just lowered her head but not in prayer.

Magdalene was the first to speak up, rescuing them from the maddening silence. "What shall we tell them?"

Mother Wolfe lifted herself from her chair and positioned herself at the window, peeking through the blinds. The body that had been lying in the road across the monastery lied there as it had been for a couple of days. No survivors in sight but no zombies either. Just a thick mist shrouding the unknown hell. She lowered the blind and carefully said, "Tell them... tell them to keep praying."

Magdalene wanted to argue, but she was too on-edge and doubtful it would be constructive anyhow. Whilst the nuns dispersed from Mother Wolfe's office, Magdalene muttered under her breath, "They won't like that answer."

The crowd scattered across the pews hushed there whispers as the nuns entered the parish portion of the monastery. The calmest of the nuns, Sister Conner, spoke up, "The TV is no longer working. Please, continue your rosaries that Our Lady might save us." The crowd, for the most part, stood still: most of them were not Catholic, but rather refugees smart (or lucky) enough to escape the inner portion of Paradise Falls. St. Elijah Monastery was on the eastern edge of the industrial district, sitting within walking distance of the Lake Placid. The only road connecting it with the rest of the city was a twisting, dirt road that quite a few people had found whilst fleeing from the infection.

The six nuns traversed through the parish, comforting and mingling with the survivors. Magdalene made it a habit of visiting Franklin Crooker, a middle aged man with two small children on his lap most of the time. His was heavy looking man with a pair of thin glasses sitting upon his face and thick beard to accompany them, making him appear somewhat odd to the rest of the survivors

"Well?"

Magdalene took a seat next to him, prompting Franklin's daughter to slide from his knee to hers. The little girl, Emily, gave a warm smile, but Magdalene only responded with a cold, blank expression. Emily had just lost her mother recently, so it was difficult to understand why she was smiling. A child's resilience... Magdalene's face met with Franklin's, and all she could say was, "It's bad."

September 6th, 2015

Magdalene subtly awoke from her slumber: someone, or something, had crept into her room. Her own hand slipped under her pillow, clenching the knife she stole from the kitchen - it was the first time she had stolen anything in years.

"Sister Seuss..." Magdalene loosened the grip on her knife at the sound of Sister Conner's worried voice.

Magdalene raised her head up and met the light of Sister Conner's lantern. "What is it?

"There is a banging at the monastery's main doors."

Minutes later, Magdalene and Sister Conner met with the other four nuns as well as Mother Wolfe in the monastery's main foyer. Bang! Bang! The heavy door did not budge an inch, but the sound was horribly easy to hear.

"Is it one of them?" Magdalene spoke with a forced confidence, despite her shaking, terrified body.

"I believe so," Mother Wolfe croaked.

"How did it know we're in here!?" Sister Donald held her hands to her head, slipping her fingers under her veil in a frustrating panic.

Mother Wolfe held a finger to her chin in a deep thought before saying, "I don't know. I doubt it can do much as it is now, though. Let's go back to bed."

Magdalene spoke up, "Mother Wolfe... it will put the refugees in a panic if they hear its banging! We must do something."

Sister Donald retorted, "Like what!? Go out there and kill it!? That could compromise the entire monastery!"

"Calm yourself," Mother Wolfe pleaded. "Sister Seuss, if it worries you so much, feel free to monitor the halls."

Magdalene threw a fiery gaze toward Mother Wolfe, but she was quickly overcome with guilt for doing so. "Yes, Mother Wolfe. I did not mean to..."

"Yes, I know."

Sister Conner offered her lantern to Magdalene, who gripped the cold handle with a light hand. However, she dropped it as the banging was soon accompanied by moaning.

The room was dark but for the light of the work lamp and quiet but fir the sound of the radio. Simon was delicately scraping residue off a 3000 year old manuscript with a scalpel, he was in the Literary Restorations wing of the museum, it was closed for a long time before Simon came to work there and occupy it, yet there was still dust on every box and half done projects at each work station, abandoned by the last worker.
'such a shame' thought Simon as he got rid of the last of the residue, the radio blaring loud music at Hugo's request, "welcome down to the paradise city, where the grass is green and the girls are pretty..." mumbled Hugo through Simons lips. Hugo was indeed an annoyance but Simon felt he had his good traits too, like singing so sweetly, Simon could never manage it even though they had the same vocal chords. The music stopped abruptly and shocked Simon, his hand slipped and scrapped a line through a bunch of letters.
"Damn it." sighed Simon.
"My music?!" questioned Hugo incredulously at the radio, giving it a smack and sending it flying across the room into a corner.
"We are interrupting you're usual broadcasting schedule to give an important federal message, an unknown pathogen labelled ZMB-1 has become pandemic across most of the United States. If you see people with symptoms such as blood shot eyes, pin prick pupils, jittery hands and rigid movements stay away. Please lock all doors and windows and shut blinds. Make as little noise as possible and if you own a fire arm make sure it is ready. Goodbye and god have mercy." a loud bang ended the message and it repeated, over and over again.
"Its the end," giggled Hugo hysterically "IT'S HERE!!!" he yelled throwing the chair from under him and rushing to the door.
"No!" barked Simon as he took control, locking the door and barricading it with shelves and filing cabinets, "we are staying put! Th military will deal with it."
He picked up the radio from the corner and placed it back on the table and sat back down. He flicked through radio stations only finding the same recording, he shut it off and leaned over his work to repair the missing ink, favoring work over nothing. Hugo was quiet but Simon could feel his mouth curl into a smile. It was never good when Hugo smiled.

Setting Out
September 5 2015

It's been 2 days since the outbreak started and Bobby a little left of food and water supplies and the house wan't stable anymore but there is still no rescue. So he decided to move out and search for rescue. He packed up and took the rest of his food supplies then set out. There are not much zombies outside so he continued walking. After walking for 15 minutes, he encountered a policeman's corpse. He looted on his body and found a handgun with 3 bullets left and one extra bullet."This should be enough to defend myself" He said and took the two. After hours of walking he arrived in a convenience store and it seems that there are still food and water left there. So he walked in the convenience store silently but first he made a noice to check for zombies and it was discovered that there are 5 zombies in the store."Shit! i don't have enough bullet to kill these all!" he thought.Bobby started looking around for a temporary weapon and It seems that the store shelves will pin them down because using the handgun will make more noise then it will lure more zombies in the store. The plan was set and Bobby started running and put his two hands on the store shelf then waited for the opportunity to push them.Zombies are very slow so it would be an advantage. As the zombies reach the front of the shelf.Bobby pushed it and the zombies were stucked in the shelf."Ok that's it for now" Bobby said while panting and started looting the store. He cannot put many in his backpack so he took some food and water then he left.

Bobby looted 3 canned tunas,2 bread, and 5 bottle of water. If he is gonna do 3 meals a day it will last him like one day and a half but if he is gonna reduce the amount of what he is eating it would last him like 3 days."*sigh* I need to survive though" Bobby said and decided to save food just to survive and continued his journey in the outside world.
Setting the Camp
September 6 2015

While Bobby was walking, she saw a girl being chased by 3 zombies and was screaming then Bobby came to help her.He had no melee weapons but he have to use the handgun to save the girl.Bobby then shot the 3 zombies in the head saving the girl.

"T-thank you" the girl thanked Bobby.

"It's not safe when you're alone, you should come with me" Bobby said as he lends his hand to the girl

"O-ok" the girl replied then girl took his hand and stands.

"By the way, Mari Newman" Mari introduced herself

."I'm Bobby Jones" Bobby introduced himself as well.

"There are no safehouses here so we need to set our own safehouse" Mari said."Really? if we will build it should isolated from the zombies even people that can rob our supplies" Bobby said and he checked the Map "Let's see,,,," Bobby was thinking and there are two choices to make either to set the camp in Custard Hills or Appalachai Forest.Bobby thinked and thinked until he decided to set the camp in Appalachai Forest because it is isolated and there might be natural food sources like plant producing foods and animal meat."Ok we're setting the camp in Appalachai Forest" Bobby said "Ok" Mari replied then they proceeded going to the Appalachai Forest.

They arrived in the Appalachai Forest but they need to get deeper into it.After minutes searching for a good spot to camp on,they saw an abandoned camp site with a tent and an unlit firepit."Hmmm.... it seems that there is no people in that camp.We should camp there while we search for rescue" Bobby said then Bobby and Mari sets their new home in the abandoned camp site.

Elle paced back and forth along a catwalk in the warehouse, handgun on her thigh, miscellaneous goons from past missions spread out below, guarding. Elle watched from out of the top windows for any sign of the sickness.
"A few are coming on the west side," She called out, and immediately after that, five men went out to eradicate the disease from the area.
No rescue helicopters either... She thought. She had assumed there would be plenty whirling about, trying to save civilians. They had enough supplies stored up here in HQ, at least for a month, and Elle would surely be fine for longer than that. However, business for her was at a stand still, and she had too much time on her hands. She had to abort her previous mission plans because of the news, and she was bored. No planing to do, no banks to rob, no excitement. Yet, overseer was a fun job. Glancing below she could see everyone, where they were, the panicked looks they had...
She knew she would turn out fine from this. She wasn't so sure about everyone below. Maybe they did have a reason to worry.

The Sunset of Paradise. Part 1

September 2st/3rd, 2015

The radio in the car began when a 'breaking news' and then a second later, a man spoke, "The undead has returned and started to bite the living. Remember to get to a safe zone or follow the evacuation procedures given to you. I hope to god that those things get killed of- Sweet Jesus!". Tre then heard sounds of a door being broken down and a groan, the man said, "Oh god no! No! Noo-", Tre turned the radio off out of fear but then looked at the busy street as people like him are about to leave the city. He can wait as long as he wants, so he could get out of the city and be away from the undead. A gray 'soccer mom' car was in front of him and saw movement inside of the back windows, three kids, fighting most likely. He then looked at the night sky and thought how peaceful the sky was while the ground was in chaos, the stars dotted the sky as some were covered by buildings or clouds. Screaming was heard by everyone nearby and Tre looked around until he saw the 'soccer mom' car as a man came out of the car with blood all over his mouth, some are coming down from his mouth. His skin had turned gray and blood covered his shirt and pants as he turned and looked at Tre and he freaked out. He looked at his mirror and seen that another car with behind and Tre didn't know what to do but sit in his car and wait until he breaks.

The zombie was going to run towards the car, but then a person far away for Tre's car came out and shouted to move along. It ran for the person and Tre breathed lightly until he heard screaming and a few gunshots going off. He ducked behind the wheel and heard people screaming and opening doors and running away for the gunshots, heading away from the traffic. Tre deiced to get out of the car, as he would just die if he stayed in his car and followed the others. He began to breath heavily again as he began to run and saw what was going on around him. It was like being in hell, people getting eaten, run over by cars, shot at, and other things that wouldn't happen in a city. He could hear a sports car, going over the speed limit, driving by as he ran over a few people and crashing into a parked car, which caused it to blow up and killed a few people. The running seem like it would never end, he saw an apartment and ran to the door, hitting as hard as he could.

An old lady stool by the door as she opened the door and grabbed Tre's shirt and closed the door, locking it and putting a workout equipment in front of the door. "You better be grateful for this mate, I would of kept you waiting at the door longer" the old lady said as Tre was breathing hard for the running. "What time is it miss.." said Tre to the lady and she said as she walked up to a door and said, "It's Mary. You should come in here and stay for a day or so. We all will need the help.". Mary opened the door and Tre entered the room and found the tv was working and Tre asked her something about the tv, "Have you found something good on TV?". Mary walked to the tv and turned it off and she said, "It was on the news, telling us to stay at home and wait for help. There are other people around, you should meet them.". Tre said thanks to her and left her room, he saw the mailbox: three floors and lots of people, most might of left the apartment. He went upsides and saw a man with a baseball and turned as soon as he heard steps and said, "Stop right here! Who are you and who let you in?!". Tre put his hands up and said Mary's name and he calmed down and put the bat down and said, "Thank god. Sorry about that those things got my dog. I'm Matthew the landlord. You must be tried, let me take you to a guest room.".

Matthew showed Tre his room and said, "You need to rest, you must of been running for hours." and closed the door. Tre walked to the door and locked it, in case of anything breaks in and walked to the bed and lay on it. He couldn't believe that paradise has fallen.

Paradise Lost (cont.)
September 7th, 2015

The banging of the zombie at the door was rather evident that morning. The survivors all sat silently in the pews, horrified it might get in.

"I've killed a couple of them before. I think I can get rid of this one too."

Magdalene did not face Franklin, only lowered her head in a strict calmness. "Mother Wolfe said not to bother it."

"But it could attract more of them!"

Magdalene raised herself from her pew and walked away, only reminding Franklin, "By staying here, you agreed to listen to Mother Wolfe. Don't forget that." When she reached the hallway, she rubbed one of her eyes, wanting to go back and apologize; but the monastery could not handle any more chaos. She doubted she herself could either.

September 8th, 2015

"I don't think Mother Wolfe is grasping the danger of the situation," Sister Conner whispered, lantern in hand as she patrolled the halls.

"Don't say that." These words were as blunt as they were bitter coming from Magdalene's mouth.

"You agree with me, don't you?"

As true as Sister Conner's words were, Magdalene took it as a punch to the ribs. She halted their walk, turned, and said, "I-." She was interrupted by the shattering of the window next to them. Luckily, the wooden planks that boarded up the inside of the window prevented anything from coming in. Bang! Bang! The zombie had begun to pound on the planks themselves now. The nuns backed away and bore their masks of fierceness, as they had done for the past week. Though, it did little to hide the trembling in their hands.

Sister Conner raised her lantern and gulped at the sight: the nuns could see, through the crack of the planks, a blood-shot eye and an empty eye socket next to it.

"We should wake Mother Wolfe," Magdalene mumbled, awestruck by the zombie's missing eye.

"I doubt it will do any good."

September 11th, 2015

Magdalene awoke in the early morning, though not necessarily eager to start the day. As usual, she navigated the halls toward the Parish, with the sound of banging and moaning overshadowing the echoes of her footsteps. She was quite startled, though, at the sound of a loud and meticulous banging coming from around one of the corners, as if whatever was producing the noise was inside the monastery. Sweat trickled down her nose as she reached into her robe, her fingers fiddling with the handle of the kitchen knife she'd stolen. She placed her other hand on the wall as she tiptoed toward the corner. The rest of her body was still - Magdalene didn't even realize she was holding her breath. The only thing on her mind was the moment she dreaded: she would have to kill one of them. Then, she bent her head forward and peeked to see it...

Instead, Magdalene was met with the sight of one of the nuns banging on a door. "Sister Aspin?"

Sister Aspin, the youngest nun of the monastery, jumped, "Oh! Sister Seuss, I didn't even see you there!"

Magdalene let go of the knife in her robe and came fully around the corner. "What're you doing?" Her face told the story of someone very irritated.

"It's sister Donald. She won't come out of her room."

Magdalene stepped forward, forcing Sister Aspin out of the way. She tapped her knuckles against the door. Tap! Tap! Tap! Then, with a matter-of-a-fact tone, said, "Sister Donald, you have to come out. The survivors are depending on us to care for them."

Sister Donald's voice rang out from behind the wooden door. "They won't depend on us when those things get in!”

"Have faith."

"FAITH!? Corpses are walking around eating people! God is-!"

Placing her ears on the door, Magdalene made out Sister Donald's quiet sobs. She backed away and advised Sister Aspin, "Let her be."

Later, in the parish, many of the survivors had just awoken. The nuns, save for Sister Donald and Mother Wolfe, were scattered about and handing out food. Most of the food came from a national guard crate that a couple of survivors had brought with them. That crate had also contained weapons, though, Mother Wolfe had them disposed of them. The survivors who'd brought the crate objected of course, but they'd decided the safety of the monastery was more important than the guns. Now, they were regretting it. More so because the crate as well as the monastery's kitchen were running low, forcing the nuns to ration what they had left.

"Sister Seuss, I don't understand," Franklin whimpered, just an apple and two small bread rolls in hand.

"We have to make our food last. You know that."

"Last until what? Until we're in the stomachs of a corpse?" He began to tear up, much to Magdalene's dismay. "How can I feed my family with just this?"

The nun tried to stare him down, but his tears made it impossible. She subtly handed him another apple and bread roll, warning, "Don't tell anyone."

"Thank you, sister." He took his bounty and started for his daughters. Magdalene paid a glance toward Sister Conner at the other end of the room: she was also giving extra food. To everyone.

September 13th, 2015

Mother Wolfe slammed her fists against the door, the nuns standing around her. "Sister Donald, It's been two days! Please, come out!" Silence. Mother Wolfe backed away from the door and gave Sister Schroeder a nod. Sister Schroeder, a middle aged woman and ex-convict, stepped forward, bent down, and started to play with the door's lock using a bobby pin. Click! She stepped back and let Mother Wolfe take the lead, with the other nuns right behind her.

There she was: Sister Donald, with her body hanging from the ceiling and a thick rope coiled around her neck. Her face was cold and bloated, though, the smell wasn't quite noticeable. Most of the nuns bowed their heads in grief and pain, but Magdalene and Sister Conner both clenched their fists, outraged this had happened. Even so, they kept silent. The nuns all formed a cross on their chests, left the room, and closed the door. Nothing else was done about it.

Aylen
November 20th, 2015

The man fixed his cloudy eyes upon Aylen, his unsure feet stepping over the light snow that covered the rocky ground. The flaps of his torn white shirt blew open in the cold breeze, revealing a gash across his abdomen, black from coagulated blood. A groan escaped the man's lips as his steps suddenly turned relatively quick and sure from his previous shambling, hungry for prey.

Aylen brushed her dark black hair from her face, raising her bow and taking aim at the man. She found herself wondering who he was, as she fixed an arrow into the bow string. Is he married? Does he have children? Is he a good man, a kind man? She took a breath of frigid air into her lungs, holding it as she took aim. She couldn't think like this, not anymore. He was a man no longer. She pulled back the bowstring, taut as she stared down the shaft of the arrow, closing one eye. She released, the arrow finding its mark. It plunged into the undead's eye, silencing his moan forever.

Hours later, as the sun was beginning to set, Alyen ascended a plateau deep in the Sinjeway Badlands, half a dozen rabbits pinned to her belt as she climbed over the ridge. A circle of RVs were assembled, fires licked up into the air from the drums illuminating the camp. Lookouts lowered their rifles as she approached, nodding in greeting. Walking into the camp, Aylen approached a rundown RV and opened the door, stepping inside to a musty smell.

"Hello Beautiful," croaked a weathered voice.

"Hello, Grandfather," Aylen smiled. An old man laid upon a sweat stained bed on the far side of the RV, oxygen tubes plugged into his nose and hospital equipment by his bed. She held up her catch proudly. "I brought dinner." She cleaned and dressed the rabbits outside, passing one to each family. As she sat by her grandfather's bedside, rubbing his forehead as she spooned rabbit meat into his mouth, she caught herself praying. She had long since ceased praying for rescue or an end to the outbreak. Now she just prayed her grandfather would survive the winter.

Journal Entry

Right, here we go. When I was out there in that wasteland once called Paradise Falls with no-where to go, I promised myself that I'd write down what happened to me, to tell my story I guess when I was somewhere safe and I guess where I am now is as good as it gets, right? If you're reading this, then you're holding my journal, written six months, I think after the start of the apocalypse, this journal contains the story of my life during the apocalypse. If you're holding this, then I guess i'm either dead, or I've left it somewhere, both seem to have an equal chance of happening right now... Anyway, like any good story, like those from before. I'll start from the beginning, the day it began, September 3rd, 2015.

September 3rd, 2015
September 3rd. The day it started. The day everything changed. The day everyone changed. The day, life as we knew it changed...
When it began, I was in the heart of the county on holiday, Paradise Falls. The city full of life and joy and the perfect feasting ground for zombies, of which it became during the first few days or weeks of the apocalypse. At first, I'll admit, I didn't believe the broadcasts on the news, instead believing this was just some horror party gone overboard or some sick, twisted lie made by the news reporters, oh how wrong I was. So for the first few hours of that day, I went around town like normal, enjoying myself, enjoying life. And then I heard a scream, a scream of pain and terror. I remember rushing towards a corner and looking down a side alley. What I saw, shattered my reality, the apocalypse had begun. I saw past the ideas in my head I had made to make sense of it all. I...I saw people, a group of them, there skin was a sickly pale and they clawed at this women, dragging her to the ground and then the first spurt of blood flew up into the air. They where biting her, pulling chunks of fleshy meat from her body, the women's body fell still. I-I was a coward, and ran.
To be finished. WIP

Hunger, silence and hunger, broken occasionally by the rumbling of their stomach. Simon was falling asleep and Hugo was sitting at the desk, drumming his fingers on the work station. They've spent 3 days locked up in the work room, starving themselves and drinking water from a leaky fire sprinkler, prospects were not looking good if they remained and Hugo knew it. Simon fell asleep, Hugo could tell because the part of the brain that Simon controlled was inactive.
'Finally.' thought Hugo as he got up and started to take down the barricade, pulling the shelves away from the heavy blast door, which in hindsight could have faired fine without the blockade, he was about to open the door when he instead reached for the fire hose box and smashed it open, from inside it he pulled out the fire axe. Hugo creaked the door open and looked through the gap nothing but dark, stale aired hallways, he slipped through and crept down the corridor as silent as a very silent thing until he reached the main foyer of the museum. It was a large domed area, columns soaring from the floor to the ceiling, holding up the roof, large French windows shut now once let in light where now only the sky light in the dome brought any in. Hugo slipped through the inky grayness and across the marble floor of the foyer, stopping beneath the skylight to feel the dim light of the moon on him. He continued to slip through the halls, all the artifacts once on display now shut behind large blast shutters, preserving them from the outside.
It lay infront of him, a stand, the consetions stand. It was a bland cart but the hunger in Hugo's stomach told him different, he stole across the marble floor towards it the shadow of dinosaur skeletons cast over the ground. He opened the side door and was amazed, box upon box of twinkies and oreos and other assorted snack foods. He crammed them onto a rolly cart and proceeded to push the cart back towards the book room.
He stopped dead in his tracks, he heard a moan. He began to push the trollie faster as shuffling came from behind him accompanied by a cacophony of moaning. The heavy cart was not moving fast enough and they were getting closer.
'I could fight them' he thought but decided against when turned around to see half a dozen of the rotting shamblers. With reluctance to grabbed as much food as he could and ran back to the book room, sealing the bolt, himself and the food into the dusty room.
"You reckless, Jackass." said Simon simply with a yawn.
