I feel that if we are to restore spam, by we I mean all of you pre-fall people, or at least make it a new, thriving community, we need to identify what is holding it back. And destroy it. this probably won't work and spam won't ever be what you nostalgics said it was Let the hate war begin!

The only thing holding it back is inactivity.

But it seemed pretty active last night. So that was cool.

Currently, roughly a quarter of the threads on the front page of Spam are by you, and most of them contain little to no content or anything discussion-inducing. Kaga is wrong - activity for its own sake isn't enough. I could post a hundred threads with simply the word "The." as the OP and it wouldn't do anything. What's needed is content that prompt discussion, debate, drama, or further production of content. Look at the post above by Vordak. It's not contributing or prompting of discussion, it is a mindless nothing. When the majority of threads or posts are simply people writing their thoughts down, discordant or disconnected from the topic at hand or the potential for further conversation, inevitably you end up with a dying forum. Posts have to be made with the intent and mindset of connection with other posts and threads and Spam members - not isolated things, made for their own sake, a thought on the behalf of the poster with no enticement for others to join in, comment, or discuss.

This isn't aimed at you specifically - currently lots of people are guilty of this, myself included at times.

EDIT: Kaga's right about one thing, though - it was active last night. Why? Look at the threads made, those that encouraged that activity and discussion and joking and reminiscing and whatever. They asked for participation and they had actual content in them that people could engage with.

The reason I haven't been posting is, first off, I can't seem to find anything that truly catches my own interest. Not the fault of any of you. I'm just too lazy to search around. Secondly, I forget about the guild as a result.

On a side note I'm currently having touse someone else's tablet due to my pc getting fixed up.

It's bretty simple, you need a mix of new people and threads that relate to what people are interested in right now.

I hesitate to say this because of how much I hate the term, but it really fits: ironic shitposting is not healthy activity, and won't revitalize anything.

I apologize for my bad wording; this is kind of what I was getting at.

The pointless threads with no real content to them (such as your "the" example) don't get Spam going because they don't encourage activity from anyone else. That's why threads along those lines generally have little to no posts in them. The threads last night though, as you said, asked people to contribute, and that's what made Spam active.

So I guess "activity" isn't what's needed so much as "activity that encourages more activity".

But seriously though, I think if we all just hang out and do stuff like old times instead of acting like the old times are gone for good, then I think that should be good enough.

If people look in here, see dozens of stupid shit threads, they're not going to stick around.

To be blunt, most of the shit you post can be qualified as what's "holding spam back".
