The following is an idea based on an old, unsubstantiated claim by some scientists that the Y chromosome may be going the way of extinction due to loosing it's genetic material and getting smaller as time goes on. While that fact may be true, it's more then likely in no way leading itself into oblivion...at least in real life. But what would happen if the Y chromosome did deteriorate to dangerous levels? We're about to find out. I'm going to post a timeline of events to explain what exactly is going on here. Anything before the first date given is the same as our history, but anything after would be experiencing larger and larger changes as time goes on and the changes grow on one another. Some changes aren't even mentioned here as to not make you read an infinitely long list, but here's the main ideas relevant to the roleplay and should give you a good idea if you'd be interested in joining or not.

If you are interested, feel free to give your own ideas, suggestions, or questions. One important suggestion is what countries you'd like to see on what side (as explained in the last section of the timeline). All I'm posting right now is the timeline and not what events we'd like to cover in the plot. That means that you can suggest an event you'd like to have the focus of the roleplay. If you guys don't know what you'd like to do most then I obviously have my own plot ideas that could come from this. There's so many things that we can cover so that's why I'd just wait to see what interests you the most.

So without further adieu, here's the timeline:

1924-1935 -A genius in the field of genetics named Professor Himmelreich had revolutionary new ideas in the field of genetic manipulation. Following the defeat of the central powers in WW1, he was hired to lead a multi-national team of the greatest minds from the central powers working to create a super soldier so that they would not suffer the same fate when WW2 came along, should things come to that. At the very least it would be a good deterrence to their enemies. Progress was rocky at best, but they did make some progress that showed a lot of promise.

1935-1937 -All test subjects used for their genetic manipulation had their y chromosomes destroyed rather then enhanced like they had planned. Pressure was increasingly being placed on them as another world war was drawing closer. Without enough time to create a super soldier given the pace they were going, they decided to shift gears and take advantage of what they did see in their tests; the destruction of the y chromosome. They put all effort into using what they already had and simply finding a way to
weaponize it against their enemies. It was placed into a gas form that would alter DNA when breathed in.

1939-1945 -WW2 began despite Germany threatening to unleash their new weapon should the allies get involved. As the war dragged on more and more of these gas attacks were unleashed as they desperately hoped for it to work as their last resort. However, there were no immediate observable effects despite their best efforts, so the allies brushed it off. By the end of the war the gas had diffused throughout the atmosphere on a global scale but in barely detectible levels. The war ended with the defeat of the axis powers.

1955-1962 -A noticeable decrease in the amount of males being born has been detected. However, most consider it to be coincidence and/or simple fear mongering. Focus is still primarily on the Cold War with this as an afterthought. Little did they know that putting it off could have dire consequences.

1962-2003 -Focus has shifted to this new dilemma called the "Y Crisis" as the male birth rate declines to unprecedented levels. At first most of the damage was done in the areas most highly contaminated with the gas back in WW2, cities and places directly bombed by the Axis, but scientists determine that it's unlikely that any area is safe and everyone has been breathing in the gas for some time now, building up in the body and accelerating the destruction of the y chromosome. The male/female birth ratio dips below 30/70. Scientists desperately search for a cure, starting with efforts to filtrate and quarantine the gas. The Cold War is officially put on hold as this matter now takes precedence. Nuclear weapons are largely disarmed during this time to take advantage of this brief period of "peace" between nations.

2003-2013 -So far scientific efforts have failed to resolve the crisis and an official state of emergency is declared by the US government and many other countries following suit. Males now make up only 24% of the entire population and most of them are in the unfertile older crowd, tending to die at younger and younger ages. The male/female birth ratio is now 10/90 with no signs of stopping. Scientists believe that the damage has already been done even if no additional gas is breathed in. Reverse engineering the gas has given no clues how to stop it once it's already deteriorating the Y chromosome. Arguments grow even more heated between those wanting to turn to cloning, inducing parthenogenesis, continue with artificial insemination and hope the Y chromosome can hold out, and many other plans (some crazier then the next). Some even wish to do nothing, claiming it God's will to strike down mankind. Companies and groups involved in all of the major strategies grow in power tremendously, politically or otherwise, and some even turn to violence against one another. Many strict laws are passed during this time to deal with the crisis, including the formation of the Genetic Conservation Agency (GCA) as part of the United States Department of Defense. They took on all issues regarding the crisis, including serving as bodyguards for the remaining males and to quell the chaos experienced at home and around the world as a result. As time goes on they have received more funding and powers then any other agency in the government, becoming like a second army that can do almost whatever they want in the name of resolving the Y Crisis.

2014-??? -WW3 breaks out as an alliance known as World Revolutionary Powers (WRP) makes their attempt to gain control over the world, taking advantage of these desperate times. With the current male population the way it is an individual country would be unsustainable for very long (relatively speaking), so they claim it was either play nice and go extinct or fight for one's survival to take the much needed male "resources" from others, thus buying them more time to find a more permanent solution and allow the stronger countries to live on. Although smaller countries had been squabbling amongst each other for this reason before, it had not been declared a world war yet until these large alliances had been made and put into opposition with one another; the WRP and the New United Allies (NUA).

You can be male. Depending on the story he could be a very important element of it, such as maybe being the guy who is being guarded by GCA characters. In super rare circumstances they can also fight if we do an action roleplay. They can also unintentionally be caught up in the action.

Were you thinking of the first option I gave you? If we do the GCA protecting the guy from terrorists plot line then maybe your guy can be more then meets the eye to have even more at stake. It will have small scale gunfights and espionage stuff.
Roleplaying a world war could also be fun and we'd be like a smaller squad, possibly an elite team. A guy can get a special fighting permit if he is, for example, sterile anyways or perhaps is just too good to pass up so made the argument that he can be more useful as a "resource" by fighting. That sounds like an epic character. They wouldn't give in to that argument very easily though. It would take a rousing speech worthy of an academy award.

Hmm... I think I'd prefer the GCA protection plot line. Maybe the man would be a kind of politician+philosopher with tendencies towards Romanticism. Non-sterile and something of a pacifist/too scared to really get in the middle of combat.

Let's see how well he handles being in the face of a massive terrorist plot on his life.

Where should the terrorists be from, I wonder? I don't want to take the predictable route and say from the middle east. The Y crisis leaving them without much men has probably changed them dramatically anyways. Rather then terrorists, we could also be under attack by a special ops team from one of the countries the USA is fighting against in WW3, whoever that would be. Or maybe it could be both, the terrorists are being hired by one of the countries. I'm not quite sure on the details yet for that plot.

For some reason I'm feeling like France could be a really powerful bad guy here. Something about being close to Germany, the country blamed for this whole mess, and France can take command of a lot of the inner workings around that area. I'll have to think more about this matter, however.

The man could be trying to push an agenda to give men more freedom, since after the decreased population, I'm guessing that they outlawed a lot of stuff men used to do... Along with forcing the fertile ones to go into military school for self-defense and other stuff they'd need to know.

They need a special permit to take on any occupation deemed too risky by the genetic conservation agency. We can come up with a politically correct term for such a card (you know how governments like such jargon). Their movements are also restricted to where they can be adequately protected by bodyguards, so even if they don't have a dangerous job, they can't go running off into dark allyways on their own without violating the protection laws. Most countries don't force the men to contribute offspring, but a lot of countries, the US included, do offer very good tax breaks for those who do, plus the large paychecks for sperm bank donations offered by such companies that are massively wealthy and politically powerful. Basically, that can allow them to live a comfy life without having to work normally. As you can imagine a lot of men actually have no problem taking advantage of this, but some would still want to oppose it out of principal such as your character.

They wouldn't force them into a military school as of now, but they would probably receive some self protection courses while attending school. This would include giving them advice on how to avoid becoming the target in the first place. Always listen to GCA agents is the number 1 rule for this.

I'm very interested. Would I be able to use a female scientist, with the intent of revitalizing the Y chromosome?

It's not too late. I thought it had died, but it can still be revitalized if enough people show up.
As for every man's dream, we can have a lot of in character debate on the subject matter as characters try to figure out good and bad, right and wrong, and all that stuff.

Yes...but you will fail. Mwahahahahahahahahahahaha!

jk...or am I? No spoiling the plot. It can go in any way, including many unexpected scenarios. Everyone's input could also push the plot a way I never thought of as well.

Sadly, this is probably a "be careful what you wish for" scenario and I would definitely have my character behave as such, if a male character would be permitted :P But anyway, this idea definitely has potential, lemme know if you need help fleshing out ideas or anything!

Male characters would be, although it would be odd if all the playable characters were male. What are our characters doing, having some sort of a male convention?
I'm sure they'd have those from time to time, although with insane amounts of security present. That would suck if an entire town's population of males gets taken out in a single attack.

For ideas, how about the main villain country? My thoughts were leaning towards France of China, but any and all suggestions can be given to make me chance my mind, no matter how silly it might seem at first. After all, with this being an alternate history there could be a ton of changes to allow some countries to take on completely different traits. For example, what if a peaceful male leader was never born, resulting in some other woman getting power instead who had a vengeful lust, or vice versa? What if, say, Canada is some evil regime now? *du du duuuuuuh! (dramatic music)

It should be Saudi Arabia! And I'd love to join if we can get it off the ground.

Interesting to see a Saudi Arabia with a lot of women's rights...or even reversed where men don't have any rights.

Exactly. An anti male country, which is the opposite of what it is.
