@LloydTurquoise Would you be interested in a collaboration? I believe it would be fitting considering Vohemia and Reheba are geographically close.

@Aristo Okay, well I've only got the Nation Overview so far, but the rest should be coming along pretty soon. Here ya go.

This is basically a result of my indecision over whether to make a Nordic, Russian/Polish/Hungarian, or Frenchish/Czechish/Bohemianish inspired nation. So I smacked them all together with a dash of Holy Roman Empire.

Grand Duchy of Cordonova

Nation Overview

The Grand Duchy of Cordonova is a massive confederation of seven semi-autonomous duchies stretching from the imperious Nordöldt Range in the east to the jeweled capitals of the western sea, bridged by the “Veldt”, a vast steppeland plied by doughty horsefolk. Although the grand dukedom has remained in the hands of House Valbe for generations, it is a pliable office, awarded by election of the Notables, a parliament of influential aristocrats, landholders, and merchants. Each of the seven dukes of Cordonova pledge fealty to the Valbi, though their knees are not always easily bent. The Grand Duchy is a tapestry of variegate cultures, and six different languages are spoken within its borders, though Cordonné, the autochthonous tongue of the western duchies of Valbe and Péy, remains the lingua franca. Before the light of the Ambrusian Church came to these lands, they were convulsed with incessant tribal and factional warfare. While the Church provided the glue by which the dukedom could be forged, it was administered by fire and blood; now, although three hundred and ten years have elapsed since King Volmer of Ruri and the Veldtish Counts clashed beneath the open sky, memories abide far longer than the ephemeral lifetimes of men. While Grand Duke Lirian carouses and whores in the arrased halls of Léonne, unseen forces conspire to bring about his demise, and the downfall of House Valbe.

Sounds good. I was also wondering if we could discuss some possibility of shared history, if it's not too much trouble.

@Gendarme Well if you read Vohemia's history, you'd probably know that I've made space for an invasion on whoever claimed the isles. I say it would of happen at least a hundred years ago. The reason for the war could be a claim on region of your main island, or foreign support of a rebellious noble or maybe even a succession crisis, it's really up to you.

Considering you're an Island nation, your people would be good with boats, where mine wouldn't have been so much. So I'd anticipate any war being mostly small vohemian raids with little success in making strategic footholes on the isles.

@LloydTurquoise I was thinking the war would be support for a foreign noble. Though at this point it would be minor support. The noble in mind is mentioned in what I've written so far in the history. His name is Godric. During his time there were two other kingdoms. One to the east, and one to the north. His would be in the southwest. The revolt happened due to an empty treasury of the reigning line. It's highly possible that once Godric got things running again he'd try and invade and take a small province of the Eastern kingdom. It's quite possible he would offer the Vohemian monarch of the time some land in this Eastern kingdom if they would help him in his war. The current borders could be fairly recent, with the expulsion of Vohemian nobility in this place taking place say... 100 years ago?

Perhaps after a long and bloody conflict? I'd also be open to the nobility leaving peacefully, or anything you yourself may have in mind.

In addition, is there any possibility of the royal lines mixing? Edwynn has four daughters after all, and I'm sure he'd have loved to have used them as bargaining chips.

These are the things I've been thinking of. If you have any other ideas, or want to revise what I've written down, I am more than open to discussion.

@GendarmeI'm good with the nobility option, very much like a English Bordeaux sorta thing. Obviously not huge, but certainly with a sizeable settlement with surrounding nobles. I'm thinking more of an applied pressure, over time the nobles being forced out from economic pressure or intimidation from surrounding local lords.
Eventually they'd probably just evict themselves and end up as landed gentry in Vohemia proper as recently as the past century.

That is possible, though King Zigmund is in his late twenties, his son Stepan I'd imagined was about eight or nine, but a betrothal to a young woman in her twenties might not that feasible. However, real nobility in the 15th and 16th century did do that, so it's not out of the question.

@LloydTurquoise Sounds good to me.

Though on second thought in regards to the possibility of a royal marriage or the lines mixing, I'd imagine that we could probably leave that to the Role-play. Otherwise, are we agreed? If so, I'll get to writing.

@Aristo I have a few questions regarding the Ambrusian church and the Fiorentian faith in general. The nuances intrigue me, plus I think it'd be good to know a few basics of the faith.

Does the Fiorentian faith have a holy book? What of commandments? Would the average service look like a regular mass from the time? Are there any sacraments or rites that are clearly laid out?

Moreover I'd like to thank you for working with the map and overall devoting time to this. It's appreciated.

Sorry for replying late! Generally, a Fiorentian mass would look very similar to a Catholic one. There aren't any special ceremonies or rites laid out yet, but you're all free to establish some. I've left it rather open-ended, as I encourage you guys to help build up the setting and stay involved.
There is a holy scripture, which I'll dub "The Libros." Aesthetically, the Ambrusians are similar to the Greek and Eastern Orthodoxies. Most high-ranking officials wear orange-red robes, and as a result are called "lobsters" as a derogatory name behind closed doors.

I said I'd have the OOC up by today, but as you can see, I haven't gotten it finished. In hindsight, this is an awkward time to have started an RP, as I'm going on a family trip to Italy for a week. However, I won't let that put a halt on things. I leave Wednesday, and will have the OOC up tonight. If all goes well, I'll open the IC before I go so you aren't left hanging. In that case, I'd like to have a co-GM mediate while I'm away. If I have Internet connection over there, I'll keep in touch. I'll be back the following week on Thursday. It's a bit of a logistical hiccup sure, but I'll be dammed if I let it put our effort on brakes.

Sorry the OOC didn't make it up yet, folks. I'm almost ready to board the plane as I type. I hope that you guys keep working on plans for your nations over the next seven days and I'll be seeing you again soon!
