"It's alright, just start again. You're doing well!." He said with a smile, enjoying that she was able to clear the first test with ease. He leaned forward from the windowsill and walked over to his door, opening it. A feisty-looking, red-haired young man stood at his doorway. "Ah, you must be Vlad I assume?" He said offering a hand. "I was wondering when you might show up."

Brunhilde simply stood silently, waiting for the next segment of the lesson. When Avarius was tipping the green powder into the pool, she felt she had been missing something horribly simple for years.

"It is not quite a one hundred percent accurate representation but treat your hand like your will and move the coloured cloud."

Images of moving fishing boats and dust clouds where the fishermen had upset the fish filled her mind, and she immediately understood what he was trying to teach her. It was... Stupid. She'd gone years, presumably, without thinking a single time about low pressure, even though she was surrounded by reminders for a good portion of her childhood. While these thoughts were ticking through her head, her face grew slightly red from a combination of embarrassment, humiliation, and a small hint of self-directed irritation. With the mild mental storm, she didn't notice the new person approaching.

"...Like a boat's wake."

"I-I-I can't.... Hold myself any longer"

She had started to reach down to demonstrate how the green cloud in the water would split around her hand and swirl along behind it, but was suddenly and unexpectedly interrupted by something warm and much larger than herself grabbing her. Her train of thought derailed, plowed into a small mental village, and burned down the orphanage for important ideas. She yelped in surprise.

...Pink? Very pink. Fluffy pink. It took Brunhilde a moment to realize that this was a person. A person hugging her, completely uninvited. Still, as rude as it was, it was sort-of nice, and she figured she might as well return the hug.

"Sorry, forgive me, I couldn't contain myself. You look way to cute. I hope you aren't mad."

Brunhilde wasn't quite sure how to respond. "...Er..."
She dove for the journal and flipped back to the dossier section, flipped through it rather quickly, and came to the conclusion that this was not someone she knew.

"Your air controll looks great by the way. I have never seen such a thing before I came here... Oh I forgot but my name is Emi hehe."

The walking pink fluffball didn't seem to be a threat. Smelled a little bit odd, but definitely not a threat. Brunhilde checked her journal's most recent entries and discovered that she had recently arrived at the Academy and started her first air elementalism class. Some odd notes about water vapor and running up and down stairs were also there, but they were of no consequence. She flipped back to the dossier section and filled it in as quickly as she could, sketching this new person and slinging in a few colorful descriptive tags, including 'What the hell?', 'Likes hugs', 'RUDE', and 'Friend???'

"I'm Brunhilde. I take it you're new here too?"

She was in class. Right. ...In class. The last journal entry was written several minutes ago, and mentioned nothing about the rubber pool with the green stuff in it that was nearby. Panic spread across her face as she realized that she'd totally forgotten everything she was doing.

She turned to Avarius without even waiting for Emi's response, rather embarrassed. "I- I'm sorry. What were we doing again?"

Emi

The petite girl was deep in thought as Emi hugged the poor creature. Emi disrupted the girl from going on with her exercises but in the heap of the moment she hadn't even noticed she did. The slight yelp made Emi jump in excitement to how cute she was. Brunhilde did return the hug however after having discovered it was actually quite nice. Emi kept her in her arms for a while longer untill she didn't want any more. She felt happy they felt the same way and not something that she might regret later. Emi let go of the girl and gave her a quick pet over the head. She returned a happy smile for cooperating with her and watch curiously as the girl pulled a notebook in front of her. It was like some sort of diary from what Emi could tell. She did not say a single word about it and simply let the girl do her thing as she questioningly watched her scribble something. Emi had made the calm girl just a tiny bit panicked by the sudden action but she didn't seem to mind and tried to go on with the conversation.

"Yea, just like most here i'm a first year!"

She showed a proud smile with both her hands in her waists. After a second or so she pointed her sight back onto the smaller girl again and angled her head somewhat to what she was doing now. She looked confused to what was happening at the moment. Did Emi bother her to the point she forgot something? Maybe she was the type that could get really concentrated and as soon as something different was bothering them they would get sidetracked. Emi could relate a little. Emi angled her head in question and raised a pondering finger towards her cheek as she bend over a little to get on the same eye level.

"Oh, sorry hehe. I kinda got you sidetracked didn't I. You looked really concentrated on that cloud thing I must say. Well whatever Emi forgets too sometimes hehe"

Emi giggled a little at herself and gave the girl a small wink. Emi took a step back and sat down near the teacher and Brunhilde. She promptly looked at the girl in full expectation she would be doing something awesome again that Emi couldn't do with her powers. Emi noticed something written on her hand but couldn't read since it was upside down at the moment. Like a doodle when you are bored or a small reminder when you don't have a small paper with you. She decided not to focus on that at the moment but rather on the lesson she was following.

Avarius saw with pride that light switch moment within Brunhilde's eyes, that click of things falling into place. However it was not to be enjoyed for long, Avarius takes a deep breath as he steps back anticipating the unannounced arrival of an uninvited guest.

He held no grudge to the interruption instead giving a welcoming smile and posture as he watched the interaction with a vested interest and intrigue. He studied Brunhilde's face as she flicked madly through her book with a practiced speed and efficiency.

This new girl, while unannounced, seemed nice enough. Her cheerful optimism was refreshing, however Avarius wished she wore a little more clothes but understood her reasoning.

Finally Brunhilde turned to Avarius mid conversation with Emi, her cheeks softly glowing with embarrassment. "I- I'm sorry. What were we doing again?"

With a soft bow and nod Avarius welcomes Emi and faces Brunhild as he kindly answers, "Please, we can get back to that later. There are lessons to be found all around, let's see what the wind has brought us today."

"Light?" he then questions their visitor.
"I hear light users share and benefit from a special sense of awareness, similar yet different to those of air?"

Avarius jumped at the opportunity to study and train with another element, even if only a student. His mind was ticking over with ways to adapt his class and exercises to focus on sensory awareness and feeling.

He holds out the pack of balloons to both girls.
"Join us?" he asks.

When Emi patted her head, Brunhilde had felt one of the girl's fingers brush across the slightly raised ridge from her old injury. Likely the first person to touch that spot in years, though Brunhilde didn't realize it at the moment. She hardly remembered it existed, except for when she was washing her hair.

Brunhilde gave a short bow to Avarius - a remnant behavior from when she was still taking martial arts lessons from Master Pete Dyer. "Yes, sir!", she replied, and she turned expectantly to Emi, eagerly awaiting her response. She wanted to know more, and to perhaps get to know this person.

The teacher didn't seem all that bothered by Emi her arrival which made her a little more comfortable knowing she didn't have to act all formal and stuff. She was really bad at that and would rather be more laid back and relaxed as she was talking to people.

The teacher had welcomed her, Emi kindly gave him a nodding bow back as she sat crossed legged onto the pavement with both her hands holding her ankles. She was playfully shaking her head from side to side making her fluffy hair dance around as Brunhilde was talking to the teacher to ask what they were doing again.

"Hey that pun was pretty ironic wasn't it hehe."

Brunhilde acted like she was in some sort of strict lesson like karate or something. Emi gave a short snort and gave a pleased smile at Brunhilde. She was a fun girl to hang around with. Perhaps she might get to know more about this girl.

Emi her cheeks grew peach colored yet she was not embarrassed but instead please with him being so calm and nice to her. He guessed her element and was right on the bat. She gave a brief nod and showed her teeth somewhat in her shiny smile. He was talking at her according to his knowledge and after invited her to join in on his lesson. Of course she didn't decline.

"Of course! I have free time anyway."

Nothing to be expected less from the academy its teachers. She gave a double nod at the teacher. She raised a single finger next to her face, raised her head and closed her eyes as she talked. Like she was some sort of professional in this

"Of course! I myself think you can call it a sixth sense. You gotta think it a little as yin yang. There are happy thoughts and bad thoughts and I personally feel it a little like that. There would also be perception like rendering yourself invisible by the manipulation of light."

She shaped her hands like a circle as she was talking about the yin and yang idea on how light and darkness worked together. After she was finished she looked rather proud of herself and opened her eyes again.

"I don't know about air though, on how that works. Perhaps something to do with the wet finger idea on how to know which way the air is facing?"

The door quickly opened after he knocked, and behind the door a man came out, he didn't look that impressive and had a weird fashion sense. "Is this guy supposed to be a teacher?" Vlad thought vaguely. He did give off a certain pressure, something Vlad usually felt off stronger people, this excited him. He looked up at him when he offered his hand and didn't shook it. With a smirk he remarked " I wanna know how powerful you are, and then I'll decide if I'll shake your hand or not". And then put his hands in his pockets provocatively.

Vlad also noticed someone else in the room, which by the way seemed to be filled with weapons, it was a small girl, basically a kid. "Is that pipsqueak supposed to be my classmate?" he thought feeling slightly disappointed.

Wow, that redheaded kid has some nerve. To come into Mr. Kessinger's office and basically insult him to his face? Not to mention, he's already challenging an older, much experienced fighter. Who in the world does that? He must either be really cocky or he has no idea at all of what to expect here.

Madison took a few steps back and leaned against the wall, her hands crossed in front of her as she waited to see how Mr. Kessinger would react to her classmate's snappish remarks.

Brunhilde wrote some fairly short notes as Emi spoke. It was a pretty simple idea, though she had never experienced that sort of feeling before, except for in a very rudimentary way. Perhaps it felt like the sun's warmth and the cool of a shadow - distinct from the heat and cold of fire and ice...? She made a note to ask later.

"I don't know about air though, on how that works. Perhaps something to do with the wet finger idea on how to know which way the air if facing?"

Brunhilde tilted her head. "Hm. Dunno."
She dipped the tip of her pinky in the rubber pool and held it up. It didn't really help her feel the air all that much better, but her fingertip certainly did get cold. She frowned a little and stuffed her hand into her pocket to warm it back up. She noticed that Avarius had been standing by them and offering the balloons for a little while, and realized that he was offering them to the two of them.

She looked to Emi for a moment, then back to the bag of balloons, and pulled out a pink one. She wondered what color Emi would take - perhaps it would be a first or second-favorite color, or the color that's on her mind at that moment. A little experiment to note in the journal.

"Air sense is sorta hard to explain. Not even sure if that's the right term for it, but whatever. Y'know how you can feel, hear, smell, and in some rare cases see the air? It feels to me almost like it's talking to all of my senses. Oh, and I think he wants you to take a balloon, too."

The whole time Vallen had not so much as stirred. His posture remains perfect and his breathing soft and controlled.

Avarius sits down near the students and ushers the girls closer.
"I truly find light to be the most fascinating of the given powers." he says excitedly, acting more like another student than a teacher.
"As our guest Emi, can you please go first?"
Avarius picks out a blue ballon and inflates it naturally. The rubber wall is much thicker than a usual ballon and with normal effort it only inflates a little larger than a regular fist size.

"Close your eyes." he asks as he gently takes her hand and holds her arm out stretched, bathing it in direct sunlight.
"On a scale of one to ten, your hand being one and your shoulder ten, can you tell me where about's I am holding this ballon?"

When he is sure her eyes are closed he will hover the ballon slightly above her skin ensuring it never touches but casts a prominent shadow onto her arm.

"Our skin is our largest organ, through it we absorb and expel much. It is full of sensitive nerve endings and is our greatest connection to the world around us.
I know you can feel the light when it is on you but now focus yourself and examine 'exactly' where it is touching you and find the space it is not.
It's ok, take your time."

"Brunhilde, you try this too, but you can keep your eyes open and move the ballon yourself, just work on the feeling and the idea of separating the senses down your arm to identify the different locations. I will explain how to do it with air later, but this is a good begging exercise to build the foundations."

Emi

Brunhilde tried it herself as Emi said on how she thought perceiving air would feel pike. Brunhilde didn't agree on that however it seems looking at the expression on her face. Emi did the same by making her finger wet in her mouth. She pointed it high into the air and concentrated for a moment with a slight open mouth. After a few moments she got her finger back down and looked at it with quite a surprised face that it wasn't working that well.

"Hmm, I guess it doesn't work that well when there isn't a lot of wind."

She gave a short shrug and made her finger dry by using her shorts as towel. The teacher next to them had been trying to hand them about some balloons but Emi clearly didn't notice for some odd reason. Brunhilde went on about how she perceived air as Emi happily listened to the small girl. It did sound a little diffrent from how she perceived things of her own element. But she could somewhat relate on how she felt in touch with her own element. Emi gave a cheerful nod at the girl.

"Yes I totally understand what you mean!"

She placed her fingers onto each other and giggled a little with a somewhat tilted head. Brunhilde also mentioned about the teacher that tried to let her pick a balloon for the millionth time now. Emi stared at him for a few seconds before her face became bright red. She flailed with her hands trying to apologise for what she had done. Her words were not to be translated at the moment but the teacher fixed her mistake by picking one of the balloons himself.

Her expression almost immediately changed to a calm relaxed one as she returned to staring at him. He just went on without saying anything more about what just happened making Emi nod happily again. She closed her eyes as the teacher indicated her too. It was dark, she could only vaguely see the sunlight shining through her eyelids making it appear she was seeing dark orange.

He lightly pulled her hand towards the right spot. Her mouth was a little agape as she quietly listened to his instructions. She was suppose to hold out her arm so that he could cast a shadow of the balloon somewhere onto her arm. It wasn't so hard to say where the shadow was cast. Her skin was sensitive to light and shadow that she could at least tell where she felt hotter or colder on her body.

"I can feel the shadow before my inner elbow, so about 4? I think that would be around the middle. I don't know where the balloon is though, it is a little to hard to know how far away it is from me."

She stayed in the same position for if he wanted to show her more things like the exercise they were doing now. It was tempting to peek at Brunhilde to see how the cute girl would be doing it. She bit her lip slightly at the thought of it.

"Impressive." Avarius muses as he repeats the test a few times over to ensure it wasn't a coincidence. "Brunhilde, remember this if you ever have to sneak up on a light elementalist, come from a direction that will cast no shadow upon them."

He spoke jokingly but watches and waits expectantly for her to note it down. Next with a cheeky smile he raises the balloon higher and as he does so, uses his elemental affinity to shrink it's size.
The shadow was now duller in contrast due to light seeping in around the object yet due to the ballon shrinking, the shadow didn't grow in size as it was moved away from the skin.
"Where is the ballon not the shadow, if you get this wrong I will send you both to the library to study trigonometry until you can show me the necessary calculations." his voice took a sudden and cold turn like an icy breeze, his threat was not to be dismissed.

Brunhilde wrote down everything she saw happening before her. It was all rather fascinating to her, and she found the concept of sunsense to be rather brilliant, in a way. She wondered just how sharp a light elementalist's senses could become - whether they could tell if someone was approaching them indoors, for instance, just by the shift in reflected ambient light. She sketched the concept, along with a large question mark, in the journal.

She held her arm out and held the balloon near it as instructed, but did choose to close her eyes. One less distraction to clog her senses. She tried to focus on the feeling of the balloon, and found that she could, indeed, not feel its presence directly. It bothered her somewhat. She did notice, though, that the wind's movement was different whenever the balloon was upwind of her arm, and she moved it around a bit to get a solid feel for exactly how it felt different.

"Hm." Words failed her at the moment, and she could offer no real input to the conversation between her teacher and the light elementalist.

Instead of writing words to describe the feeling of an obstructing object, she drew a diagram of the movement the air spoke of. After striking the balloon, the air split around it and came back together, swirling somewhat and moving more unsteadily afterwards until touching her arm. This sort of passive sensing would be easier indoors, where the sheer volume of information carried by the wind isn't so distracting.

She looked back to Emi just in time to hear Avarius's threat of mathematics, and was momentarily split on watching Emi's reaction or trying to determine if she could feel her own balloon on different winds than those headed directly towards her. The former would most certainly be more entertaining - and she could do the latter any time, provided she didn't forget. Avarius was almost certainly trying to subtly stack the deck against the girl.

Brunhilde gave her new friend a smile. Regardless of the outcome here, she felt she would enjoy herself.

Emi

The teacher seemed to be impressed by Emi her gift. She had a proud smile stuck on her face showing off a bit of her white teeth. She let out a small grinning noise each time he did it again. She wasn't praised a lot but she was a huge fan of it if she got praised. Teacher clearly joked with her once he told Brunhilde what the right way was to defeat Emi.

"Hey! Don't give her ideas on how to sneak up on me! That is not fair!"

She laughed a little at his joking though, still with her eyes shut tight. Brunhilde hadn't spoken in a while, though knowing the teacher was still talking to her. She didn't know if she just wasn't interested or heavily concentrated on her own exercises. Maybe better not bother her with it though. She seemed rather disoriented when she interrupted her.

The teacher was talking to her again clearly wanting to experiment more on the girl with his balloon exercises. She was about to dare him to bring it on with his exercises but was stunned as she clearly heard a switch in his voice. Shivers went down her spine as her teeth grit when she heard his cold icy voice. She had a somewhat displeased look on her face when he told her what to do and gulped down her own saliva.

Knowing this was for real now she sat upright and concentrated. She didn't want to go inside to study in books! She wanted to stay out and enjoy the sun on her skin. That old dusty library could go to hell at the moment. When the balloon was in place gears started turning. This wasn't fair at all, how was she suppose to know the size of the balloon or how high it was. She could pinpoint its location but the exact was difficult. She wouldn't be able to know that. Emi took the position of the sun in mind and tried pointed right at the balloon as well as she could with her unoccupied arm.

"6 feet that way!"

She baled up both her fists and looked quite serious about this right now. She squinted her eyes even more close hoping that she did well on this. She didn't want to hear the result. It was but a mere guess so she couldn't possibly be right, oh how thrilling this was!

Avarius smiled.
"Have either of you seen the library yet?" he watched the faces of the girls for about ten seconds before he broke out in a soft giggle.
"Relax, book learning can be done in your own time. Memory through repetition will serve you better any way.
I still want that page some time soon."
he points a finger at Emi.

He turns his attention to his actual student.
"Brunhilde, it is not as obvious as light and dark but it will always be around you.
Air will not stop when confronted with an obstacle, feel for the change of flow and density, the subtle vibrations, that sound you mentioned, let it talk to you.

Listen with 'all' of your skin.
Hold your breath if you must."

Avarius whips up a soft natural breeze to ease the experiment. Emi's presence had caused him to step far beyond the lesson plan and he just realised he had moved onto things not normally learnt in the first year, yet alone the first day.

"Don't be afraid to use the warmth from the light or it's absence to guide your focus. Take your time. Practise this every day with every opportunity you get.
Try different objects of different sizes and shapes. Air awareness is one of the greatest advantages available to practitioners of 'Kaze no Mahō'.

Practice this with each other for the next half hour then move back to moving the coloured cloud in the water. Emi you're time keep."

Avarius stretches to the sky then falls back onto the grass and closes his eyes.

Brunhilde sat and watched Emi's reaction as Avarius spoke, and soon found herself trying to suppress a smile. She failed miserably and went for the next best thing - trying not to laugh at the poor girl's indignation. She failed in that, too, and had to clap a hand to her mouth to stay quiet. It almost worked.

"6 feet that way!"

It was totally wrong, of course. But Emi's serious response was probably one of the best things she'd seen that day. She swallowed her laughter, rather red in the face, and forced herself to sit upright. She needed to start focusing again, but first, she wrote down in great detail exactly what had happened.

She shook her head when Avarius asked whether she'd seen the library yet. "I only arrived a couple minutes before class started," she responded. She'd have to get directions after class - she really wanted to see what sorts of things they had.

She shrugged when the paper was mentioned, and made a note of it in the To-Do list, with an arrow pointing up towards the journal entry containing a sketch of a balloon casting a shadow on a very, very confused-looking Emi. She looked up to her fellow student. "It'll be faster if we work on it together."

The next exercise assigned was pretty much what she had planned on working on anyway, according to the journal. She nodded in acknowledgement as Avarius described the motions of air, writing down his words neatly. Regardless of how advanced it was, she felt that she could master it, given some time. She would need to to be able to advance, anyway, as she needed to know how to listen to speak to the air anyway.

An idea sprang up as her teacher mentioned holding her breath, and she stopped breathing. At least, breathing conventionally - a quiet whisper to the winds circulated the air much less loudly through her lungs for a good twenty seconds before she realized she wasn't paying attention to the outer world and had to start breathing normally - and she was aware of it. That was a bad idea.

With what remaining focus she was't spending on manually breathing, she tried to heighten her awareness of the outside world. Big things felt easier to identify. Water, heat, and power were easy to feel and smell in the air as long as they came close to her. She stood up and turned to Emi, her eyes sealed tightly. Some light still made it through her eyelids, but it was of very little consequence, she thought.

"Try to touch me."

Elbritas' look quickly turned sour at his new new student's attitude. From what Vlad would have seen, the teacher's hand twitched. What Vlad would not have seen coming, however, is the freshly scorched fire dart that was embedded in his chest mere inches from where his heart was. He leaned in so that only Vlad could hear him. "Let's get one thing clear you little shit." He spat the last word out as if it was an awful vodka. "I am your teacher now, which means you're under my jurisdiction. You're but a fucking grain of sand on the beach known as this Academy. Learn your place, or get swept away be the rising tide." For emphasis he pressed on the dart in Vlad's chest, twisting it slightly. He turned back to Madison with a smile. "So! Shall we continue with our lesson? Madison, if you would be so kind as to begin again." He returned to his spot on the windowsill, observing his students.

Before he could realize it, a sharp pain surged in his chest, he quickly looked down and saw a flaming dart. "But it's fire, how can it hurt me so much? I thought I could resist fire?" However the teacher's face was really close to his, talking about some arrogant shit like they all do. Memories of the parents of the kids flashed through his head, them looking down at him with those stupid grins.

Holding him close to him he twisted the dart, which made Vlad bite his teeth to not give a sign of weakness, although he was sweating. After he was done insulting him and released him, Vlad grinned and stared him directly into the eyes. He had to repress the urge to spit in his face. But the man was indeed powerful, that dart, it basically appeared into his chest for all he could know, he never seen such speed before after all these fights. These thought did excite him however.

With his hand pressed on the spot where the dart has been he followed the man and stood next to the small girl, not paying attention to her.

Emi

The expression on her face quickly dissipated. She opened her eyes and stared up at him for a few seconds in confusion. She blinked without the expression on her face changing as her mouth was slightly agape. He didn't say she wasn't right but rather mentioned it as he asked if they ever saw their library before. Emi dropped her head in defeat and gave an audible sigh.

"Why must I be forsaken."

He giggle short after as Emi her face almost immediately shot up at him in confusion. Did he think it was funny to give his students more work. O wait he wasn't serious about the whole library thing! She noted that he wasn't the only one laughing at her. She gave a somewhat devilish look at her letting her know that she would get her back for that. Emi gave a sigh of relief and dropped onto her back as her legs also stretched out onto the ground. She was staring up at the sky for a few moments as she could finally relax.

"Thank the sun god."

She looked back up at the teacher by only moving her head as he talked back at Brunhilde again. He gave her some advice and spoke to both of them short after letting them know what to do. They were suppose to be doing these exercises with various objects some more. Emi sat upright and gave a small cheerful nod in agreement as she looked back at Brunhilde. As the teacher dropped onto his back she stood up and quickly had gotten close to the girl. She immediately dropped down onto her knees before she was even next to the girl and gave her a big hug again.

"We get to stay with each other for a few bits longer!"

Emi rubbed her cheek against the side of Brunhilde's head as she let her body slowly drop down next to her. She let go of the girl and looked right at her. From up close she stared at the girl for a short span of time and stood back up again.

"Let's work together on yours since I can already feel something"

Emi took a step back and waited for Brunhilde to get up. Brunhilde turned towards her and closed her eyes. She immediately asked for Emi to touch her. Emi grew a little red and looked a little surprised at first but poked out her thoungh at the side of her mouth and moved her fingers creepily.

"Will do~"

Her face definitely showed that she was happy with what she just was told to do. She immediately went in for a full tickle at the sides of brunhilde her small frame. She moved towards her a little bit at the side so it wouldn't be as predictable.

"Of course, Mr. Kessinger," she replied with a grin. She looked at her classmate dead in the eye, not as a form of intimidation, but rather, to give him a condescending stare.

"Haven't you heard what happens to people when they play with fire?" she said to him in a low voice. Pushing herself off of the wall, Madison laughed a little and proceeded to grip the dowel with her right hand. She walked to the center of the room, turned around in place to face her teacher, and once more, lit a small flame at the tip. This time, it was controlled, no wildly flickering as if it was about to spread in any direction. With somewhat of a confidence boost, Madison tossed the dowel to her left hand while the flame remained hovering in place. The slightest smile displayed across her face, and she looked up at her teacher as the flame disappeared.

"So, do I pass this time around as well?"
