Over six hundred years ago the human race developed warp drive and began traveling to other star systems. In one of these systems we met the Kllllt, a race of sapient, highly spiritual butterflies. They were being attacked and eaten by a native race of non-sapient reptiles and some of our troops volunteered to fight them off for the Kllllt. Shortly afterword, though, they began to hate us. They called us monsters, undead, demons, and the like.

They banded together with other alien groups to drive up away and the Earth troops were forced to defend themselves. Before long we were in an all-out war with multiple alien races that possessed vastly superior technology.

The one advantage we have is our medical technology. It allows us to bring people back, literally from death. Because of it, on some ten thousand of the millions of troops that Earth has defending it die every year. Every soldier that returns from war tells us great stories of heroics, and says that it was the best thing to ever happen to them, encouraging others to join. So we did.

After having a medical implantplaced in our brain and a twelve hour VR training session we were placed in cryo-sleep and taken to Trath'tal, the jungle homeworld of the Vrlk, a race of reptiles that are allied with the Klllt. We "beamed down" to the planet and were greeted by a clearly drunk colonel. "So you're the poor sods they tricked into taking their place. Welcome to THra...Tralth...Whatever the name of this hellhole is. This is Stephanie." He points to a fairly attractive brunette woman. "Some sort of medical person. I only let her stay here because she puts out like a broken vending machine." He motions for you to follow him. "Come on," he says.

You notice a guy curled up in a fetal position in the corner, mumbling to himself. The one word you understand his say is when he yells "Tank!", then continues mumbling to himself.

The Colonel opens a crate of beat-up old rail rifles and motions to it. "Take one, you'll need it if you want to stay alive." He giggles a little bit before catching himself, then motions for you to follow him. Just as she steps out the door, though, a creature swoops down and grabs Stephanie, ripping her in half and eating her once they're off the ground. "Damn it, not again." the Colonel says, "It's earlier than normal, but I guess you'll have to find out eventually."

He leads you back inside the building, but takes a turn away from where you "beamed in" at. There there's a guy who's smoking something you are certain is far stronger than tobacco. "Hey, Steph just died." the Colonel said.

The guy hits a few buttons on a computer. "Yep, she did. She'll be out in a minute."

Soon afterwards Stephanie steps through a set of double doors in what looks to be an old jumpsuit. "Well that sucked." she said. "Why the hell didn't the AA guns keep the Raptor away?"

"Because it's been out of ammo for about a week." replied the Colonel.
