Hello All! This is a reboot of my first ever RP, The Dark Side of War (DSoW). Reboot may be an inaccurate term, because the plot I'm planning is a sort of pseudo-sequel. Anyways, that warrants discussion. Point is, this is a Military Sci-Fi RP focusing on how war might affect an individual. Plus, there's cool power armor and lasers and stuff. No aliens though, this is soft Sci-Fi.
Here's the original plot
The year is 2027 and the world is in Turmoil. The nation of Interum is the Hegemon of the world. Their power has made them a target for the other nations of the world. Constantly at war, fighting and battle are are part of life for most Interians. Many children aspire to become soldiers, and the military is glorified through pro-war media.
To the north of Interum lies its only ally, a small nation called Tellosia. The truce is shaky at best, so Interum has a series of smaller border guard outposts (BGO’s) on its Tellosian border. One such BGO is NO-36. A small, four-room concrete construct built in an isolated mountain pass. The six soldiers stationed there are either unskilled rookies or veterans sent there for punishment.
For two years, the most pressing issue facing these six soldiers was boredom. That was, until Tellosia declared war. Taking advantage of the weak border, Tellosia invaded. Fortunately for our six, no forces trudged through their mountain path. Interum high-command realises the relative uselessness of NO-36 and elects to disband it. As our six prepare to be scattered throughout the other BGO’s, they get a call from HQ. There is a large invasion force heading their way. Reinforcements from the Capital are heading their way via dropship. Just as the invasion force closes in, the dropship crashes. This leaves only one survivor, who has already regrouped with the six. Together, they will endure the horrors of war.
Now. We have a few options.
1.)A spiritual Successor taking place in the same world, but featuring an entirely new plot entirely separate from the first one.
2.)An actual sequel, taking place a few years later. Featuring some returning characters, but a generally new story. Interan Civil War?
By, few, I meant two.
What do you guys think?
Newbies are welcome, though I'd prefer that the amount of players not exceed ten (including the original seven, who may not all return)
Allllllllllrighty then. Since a good portion of the originals have yet to respond, we're going to go ahead and start plotting.
Agent brought up a good point about the sequel, so I say we reboot away.
Here's my bare bones plot
Allisaria's nations have been at war for as long as anyone can remember. None more so than the nation of (Changing the name of Interum because "Interum" is kind of a stupid name), an imperialistic nation with a large, well-equipped, conscripted army. Until now, they've managed to hold back the northern barbarians, the eastern fascist nations, the Western Merchantile States, and the southern kingdom. That is, until a small tax bill sets off the long-standing tensions between eastern and western (Nation Name). Civil War seems inevitable.
With enemies on all sides and it's people at each others throats, it seems as though (Nation)'s days are numbered. Though, not if you can help it.
As of right now there'll be four of you. Two will be eastern soldiers, two will be westerners. I'll play two characters, (one on each side). I have two ideas for why these guys would be on the same team.
1.) They aren't. We can have them fight each other.
2.) They're the only survivors of a northern skirmish, forced to team up when they come under barbarian attack.
3.) They're part of a secret team organized by both sides, travelling to another country to mess shit up.
Very different. I think that restricting the RP to such a small setting is part of what killed it last time. So I expanded the setting and fit it into a plot I've been mulling over for a few weeks.
@Hannibal I haven't gotten that far into plotting yet. Maybe East is, like, the loyalist side of things, with fierce adherence to the laws and conscription of the Nation. Whereas the West is influenced by the Mercantile States and disagrees with the conscription and stuff.
