Introduction

Location: En route to the Powerbound Alliance Sanctuary, Colombia.
Interacting with: Adrian//Vega - @Parfex and Aja//Black Cat - @Endrance.

Nyt tried her best to hang out in the back of the group, her nerves completely on edge. The helicopter flight had left her feeling nauseous and giddy at the same time, and the vast number of people with special abilities overwhelmed her on some days. First of all, she felt relief that nothing solely relied on her except the power that made her unique versus the others. Secondly, she was overcome with a tiredness unlike any other. This was the most action she’s had in over a year and she could quite literately kill for a nap, if her mind wasn’t buzzing so loud. Her eyes were tired but her soul refused to sleep. She was alert for anything, as they piled out of the helicopter to refuel and refresh themselves.
She waited until the last person stepped out and slowly trailed behind, singing to herself as the melody played softly, only audible to those near her. She looked up at the night sky and her jaw dropped at the beautiful spectacle before her: she hadn’t seen such shining stars since her and her numerous brothers went camping, and the chilly breeze made them all come alive. I wish we could go up there, she found herself thinking. I wish --, PLUNK!
”Ow! Son of a bitch!” she cried out as something struck her shoulder and she looked around for the item that bounced away. She stepped away from everyone as they either relaxed or stretched their aching muscles, and she bent down to pick up a shiny grey case. She inspected it and thumbed an oval groove near the opening. Suddenly, it sprung open and revealed to be a tiny monitor on one side and a speaker on the other. It immediately scanned her face and she, in turn, shut it quickly, looking around to see if anyone saw. Indeed, she had been spotted, by Adrian and Aja who stared at her like she was a blue-skinned alien asking to probe them. ”I’m okay. I’ll just take this and… study it.”
She turned away quickly and walked towards a sitting area, fiddling with the case. She opened it once more after placing her thumb over the groove and let it scan her face as she crossed her eyes and stuck her tongue out at it. ”Access authorized,” said a tiny voice and Nyt was surprised to hear it in English. She was even more shocked to see a small framed picture on the monitor of a girl who resembled her closely, but aged a little more and with long hair. It was the alien who had come to her when she was 13! ”Oh. My. Lord,” she said breathlessly.
”Nyt, it’s me, Din. I’ve been watching you more closely than you think – I hate to sound like a stalker, sis, but I just wanted to make sure you were safe. You are and I can see you’re part of an awesome posse now. I’m so proud of you… which is why I now have to burden you with this piece of information… Nyt, we’re not in the… correct timeline. Before our births, something heinous was going on. Through a series of unfortunate events – see, I get your human references! – we’re in a parallel universe, for our own protection. Just know that… mom and dad love us so much, it’s nothing like you’d imagine it, considering we were sent away. I love you too and I hope to see you soon. Take care. Indy barks goodbye!”
A tear fell down her cheek and onto the face of her sister on the small monitor. A lump in her throat from hearing she was loved by her biological family was much too emotional for her. She sniffled away the rest of her tears and closed the case, holding it close to her heart. ”Wrong world…”

Adrian sat pulsing his ability over and over again in the palm of his hand. Testing his control, learning his limits. The swirling mass was a welcomed distraction from the results of his previous battle. "The last battle was harder tha- ...No. The last battle wasn't any different than the others." Adrian swallowed the bitter pill of pride. Truth was, he was careless. The group had the right strategy, the right placement and they were actually working like a team. He was careless. That's all.
Blood still soaked part of his right shoulder. "All this blood because of a moment's hesitation." He'd never express it (at least not in front of other people) but he was in a lot of pain. Adrian replayed the battle over and over again; each time, kicking himself for not reacting fast enough to block the hit. Another jolt of pain. Adrian pulled his focus back to the palm of his had. The black dot reappeared casting an abnormal shadow. The image of his skin distorted and swirled as a tiny universe spun just above his hand. Close enough to grasp but hovering just out of contact. With another squeeze of his power, it popped and vanished from existence. Adrian wanted to get better; NEEDED to get better but another mistake like before and it could be all over.
The image of his mother flashed through his mind; consuming his focus and searing to the surface of his memories. Another bite of regret. "If I had only been there to save her she'd still be aliv..." Pain shot down his arm, demanding his attention like a jealous girlfriend. He pulsed another swirling void into existence to regain control of his thoughts. "Just like in basketball, If I can't practice my dribble, I can always work on my free throw. I can't work on my defense, so I am going to work on a new skill."
”Ow! Son of a bitch!” The tiny singularity faded as Adrian glanced up to see Nyt chasing after a small bit of tech that clattered across the ground. She snatched it up and the device lit up in turn, flashing light and strange symbols across her face. She quickly slammed it shut, blinking in bewilderment. ”I’m okay. I’ll just take this and… study it.” She looked confused and surprised as she hurried to an isolated sitting area. Adrian slowly got up, ignoring the throbs of protest from his shoulder, and strode over to where Nyt was sitting.
" ...information… Nyt, we’re not in the… correct timeline."
"Not be in the correct timeline? How could she not be in the right timeline?"
Adrian politely cleared his throat. "Nyt, how does this thing know that you aren't in the right timeline?"

”Nyt, how does this thing know that you aren’t in the right timeline?”
The question jarred her from her thoughts and she looked up at him. She let the silence engulf them for a few moments, taking away all sounds of the gusty winds, the chatter from the others, and the sound of her thumping heart. ”I don’t think I could explain it if I tried,” she reluctantly admitted. Accepting that he happened to catch something about the device, she glanced down and opened it again. ”It appears to be an interfaced recorder of sorts. There are only sound files on this thing as far as I can tell. A few, to be exact.”
She clicked on the first file titled, “First Universe”, and motioned for Adrian to join her on the bench. As soon as he sat down, she pressed the play button, ”The Fireflies, a noble four-member family with interracial parents: a Wavetraveler and a Dreamwatcher, two different races with two distinct abilities. Their twins obtained different powers but remained much the same. The coveted gift of premonition within a Dreamwatcher’s bloodline was sought after, due to being a rarity among them; however, the other Wavetraveler-influenced twin could harvest all soundwaves and power things around her with the sound of music. When the king rising in power learns about these twins through a chance meeting, he desires stealing their powers away.
He inherits his kingdom and immediately kidnaps Nyt in order to draw out the stronger twin. Overwhelmed by her emotions, she finds it difficult to control herself and thus loses in the first battle against him. On her way onto a suicide mission, she finds herself pushed into a mirror unlike any other. This portal takes her to a younger version of herself that lets her know the only way to save the twin is through parallel universes and hoping that they get it right. I am that younger version meant to save the other world. But the sole reason why we can't get back through the same portal is because the mirror is hidden away safely by the first universe Din. We must find another way back.”
.
”I suppose that makes me the second universe Nyt,” she said, stunned by the load of information. It sat on her tongue like heavy syrup and slowly everything clicked into place: why most of the time she felt inhibited by something unknown or wistful when we saw a young couple with twins. Although she loved her adoptive parents and eight brothers with all her heart, she was the daughter of two powerful aliens unbeknownst to her. Her heart began to break all over again, not only because she missed out on her “original” life, but because her parents had to make the ultimate sacrifice without knowing if their daughters would be safe at all.

Adrian stared deep into Nyt's eyes. A feeling of shock and bewilderment overtaking over him. After almost being torn into pieces from within a black hole; nothing really phased him anymore. Yet for some reason, he couldn't stop staring at her; as if seeing his friend for the first time. Really, truly seeing her. Nyt was the only person, the only one who could truly understand the way he felt.
Nyt was from a far away planet called Austea, which was nestled inside an even further away galaxy; Kryton. Although she was alien, she appeared human and she was surprisingly beautiful. She had short-wavy hair, high cheek bones that supported a wide smile and eyes that held more depth than all the stars in the sky.
Adrian might still be on his birth planet but he too had been ripped away from his home. Stranded, a man lost in time. This new life felt more alien to him than the one sitting right in front of him. A planet full of people and the person Adrian felt the closest to belonged to another world, light years away. She had been here the whole time, staring him in the face and he had no idea until this very moment how alike they were.
Being born a mixed child, Adrian grew up not really fitting in. Sure, he made friends, flirted with girls, played sports like everybody else but for some reason he never quite felt like he fit in. His black friends teased him for being "light-skinned" and his white friends were sometimes withdrawn; not because they didn't like him but because no matter how much they were alike, he looked different. He could be laughing in a crowed room and still be isolated and alone.
In his senior year, meteor landed near his high school. He started having strange powers after going near the strange purple-glowing rock. His new abilities further isolated him from people now that he had a powerful secret. If it wasn't for his best friend Aja, who also received her own gift of abilities form the meteorite, he would have been completely alone with no one to share his secret with. As his powers manifested, he became the hero Impulse and she; Black Cat.
Impulse had the ability to generate an unstoppable force in the form of a field or as a blast but it only could last for a moment and it only reached so far. Now, he could probably hold it for about three seconds. Five, if he really pushed himself. By the end of a full year's cycle the duality of his power manifested itself into a equal, yet opposite force. With this momentary 'burst' of attraction, Adrian had overexerted himself in a fight against the villain, Grissom. In this fight, his attractive pulse lasted just over an instant. A blink of an eye seems irrelevant most times but when dealing with massive unstable power, even a second is an eternity. He was careless, reckless and inexperienced. With the same understanding of taming lightning, Impulse... He, had used his power just a little too long. Long enough for a singularity to open up right in front of him. Having no idea how to control it or turn it off; Adrian was consumed by his own power and cast into the black hole that he, himself created. When he came out the other side he, was half dead, was thought to be actually dead, and learned that his mother really was dead. Grissom had killed her in a plot for revenge and an attempt to lure Impulse out. Without even being in the same timeline anymore, Adrian was unable to meet his aggressors challenge or protect his mom.
Impulse failed to protect the one person Adrian cared for the most in this world. When he emerged from the void and discovered the terrible news, Adrian declared Impulse dead. Impulse died back in the black hole and in the past with his mother. Adrian assumed a new identity as Vega and swore to seek justice or seek revenge on Grissom and then return to the past to save his mom.
Now, here... after all this time, was someone staring back at him. She was just like him and all she wanted was to go home. Adrian respected that desire and with...
"Vega".
"I've got a call for you from Esperanza Alvarado. She says it's important."

Adrian had so many things he wanted to tell Nyt, share with Nyt. ...but that was how Impulse acted. Impulse's recklessness was how people got hurt. He was literally too impulsive. So instead, Adrian kept his lips pressed together and seemingly effortlessly; he broke his gaze. Then, quietly approaching the front of the plane and left Nyt to wonder and explore her new tech.

"What was the point in allowing yourself to get lost in moments like that?" he thought to himself.
He felt like a child whenever he indulged in moments such as those.
He pushed those thoughts far into the back of his mind and reached for the phone.
"Vega ...Adrian.
Yes Ms. Alvarado?"
"It's Grissom... We may have found him.

Nyt absentmindedly waved her hand at Adrian as he broke himself away to attend to his personal business. In her hand, it dawned on her that she was in fact holding an item that her older sister once touched. The world began to grow smaller around her and she began to hear the beautiful tune of the Arurian Dance by Nujabes as she slowly stood up and continued to inspect the piece. "We have the same fingerprints..." She looked up and realized people were starting to pile into the helicopter. She put the shiny case away in a secret pocket she sewed onto her romper dress and stood behind Adrian to await their turn in the queue of superheroes that needed transportation.
Aja slinked up behind her and hooked arms with the alien girl, who was only slightly startled by her newfound friend. "Anything in particular you want to listen to on the ride home?" she asked the two she was sandwiched between and Aja gave her a wide grin. "The soundtrack from Samurai Champloo, of course." Nyt was the happiest to oblige, mostly because that’s what her brothers also use to request of her: her taste in songs. It was a high compliment from the eight Vikings who needed to be silenced every now and then by a great jam.
"How about we start off with the Arurian Dance, then?" Adrian and Aja agreed in unison and sat together in the back of the helicopter. After their leader, Lisa, counted heads and gave instructions about what was expected of them once they returned home, Nyt played away to her heart's content the music she stored with her when her phone was incapable of being used or out of reach. In all reality, Nyt practically transmitted the sound waves straight from her corporeal body, but she preferred to eject it through her shoulders so she didn't use up too much energy. When she began to fall asleep, the music itself began to fade until she entered the dreamworld, where she heard it in her sleep but the others around her couldn't unless they were asleep as well.
It was definitely a strange connection, but for the music lovers, it lived through all of them. In her dream, she saw all the new faces she had just met recently who brought their unique abilities to this Superhero Table. Once again, she felt the relief of not being the only one who had to carry the world on her shoulders. It manifested itself in the form of Adrian, who swirled around her like a celestial body ready to collide with a desolate planet. She could see his lips moving, but she only heard the faint song, Breathe by Télépopmusik, coming from his mouth. In the dream, she decided he was a good singer.
She slowly woke up as they descended from the air to land on the helicopter pad and then she realized Adrian would also help her carry the world that wasn’t theirs.

"A month. A MONTH! What was the point in even telling me that there was a lead on Grissom if it was going to take so long to pinpoint his location?" Adrian was livid. If he didn't know any better, this whole mission was delayed because of Esperanza Alvarado. As far as people he trusted, she was up there but he had a feeling that she was more cunning than she let on. What bothered him wasn't the fact that she may have (probably had) delayed finding new information on Grissom. It was that she reminded him so much of his mother who he was trying to avenge.
"The woman who's the most like my mom, is helping me catch the guy who killed my mom, but by acting like my mom, she is getting in the way of me catching my mom's killer. If that's not the definition of irony, I don't know what is." Adrian was getting strange looks by the men of the 32 because he was muttering to himself but he didn't care.
Due to the condition of his shoulder upon the return of last month's mission, Esperanza suddenly "lost track" of Grissom. The doctor said it was going to take a month for the stitches to dissolve and the wound to heal. Low-and-behold, at the end of the month, Grissom suddenly starts showing signs of "activity" again. "Bullshit."
One of the 32 made a fake *coughing sound* at Adrian's outburst.
"If this guy doesn't mind his own business, I'm going to show him how useless his riffle that he's so proud of really is."
Adrian cocked an eyebrow at the solider, who pretended not to notice the scowl that followed.
"I probably shouldn't be mad the the crew. They're good men who want to help me stop Grissim. ..I probably shouldn't be to hard on Esperanza either. She was just making sure that I didn't rush into a mission half-cocked."
"Speaking of half-cocked, are you going to ask Ms. Alvarado out on a date or somethin'? The way you talk about her, it sounds like you fancy each other."
Before Adrian could blast a hole in the solder's head big enough to permanently erase that smug look on his face, the cargo bay began to open up and the pilot' voice crackled in through the radio.
"Alright ladies! Quit comparing bra sizes and get ready for E-Vack! We are here at the beautiful city of Poblado de El Brujo! So spit that man's dick out of your mouth, make sure your chute is strapped on tight and I wanna see you best Olympic pose while jumping out of this baby's ass!"
The men chuckled and strapped on their helmets.
Adrian seized the opportunity to force pull the smug solder's helmet from him and then blast it out the open bay door.

Nyt immediately headed straight for bed and into the warm layers of her bed in the room she shared with fellow superhero, Edwina “Lucifer” Fairfax. She grew fond of the rather quirky redhead and the two shared a bond with their powers. Whereas Nyt can harvest and control sound waves, Eddie could manipulate light waves any way she saw fit. The two could sleep instantly by taking away the outside sources who bugged their sleep or any sunlight that hit their face that could awaken the groggy girl. However, when she arrived to their bedroom, Eddie was nowhere in sight. She decided to take advantage of complete sense of privacy and freely peeled off her costume, and jumped straight into her beloved pajamas: a simple black v-neck shirt and black shorts to accommodate the climate change.
She ejected Instant Crush by Say Lou Lou all throughout the room as she sat down her desk to prepare for her nightly ritual: she opened the bedroom window, the song softly playing in the background, and pulled out a pen with one hole at the end in order to vape the substance in the cartridge, a medicinal and recreational blend of cannabis called a hybrid of sorts. She never payed attention to names and puffed away every few minutes while lost in the song. The stars were brighter than they ever were in Oregon and she let her eyes be consumed by the stellar scene before her. To the untrained eye, they couldn’t see the gaseous materials being ejected all throughout space but she could definitely feel it. The entire galaxy was loud with meteorites whizzing by and she picked up every single last one of them since she was 13. It was an intense experience but throughout time, she began to use it as a way to lull her into sleep with the celestial white-noise caressing her into sleep. She continued for several more moments before putting it away, upright in her drawer, and closed it softly. She stood up and walked away from the desk, yawning as she stretched before bed.
She had decided that she was ready to create her own recorder using the same device her sister had left behind, to send a message to her sister. The only thing that held her back was how, in fact, would she get it out into space and towards her sister’s general direction. She assumed it needed a beacon and that it could only be opened by someone with the same fingerprints as the twins, but no doubt, someone smarter could find a way around it. A shapeshifter in her own group could do it, the bastard! She walked over to the outfit she had discarded and pulled out the recorder. As tired as the poor energy-consumed alien could be, she still wanted to at least peak at its’ files through her own tablet. Her father, no doubt, had some kind of software to handle it.
She could only hope that, if all else fails, Adrian could infiltrate it or Aja could dark-blast it to hell.
