It's been two years since the first vigilantes began to walk American streets. Unlike the comic books and movies, these men and women possess no powers, no extraordinary science, no magic- just their own weapons, skills, and determination. Their approaches in the war on crime vary greatly, and more than one uses methods that many would find questionable- blackmail, spying, arson, computer hacking, theft, even murder. And rather than costumed supervillains, these vigilantes have their hands full with ordinary gang members, drug dealers, serial killers, petty thugs, corrupt officials and the like. Not to mention the constant efforts of the police to bring vigilantes to heel. There's no shortage of bad blood there.

Every large city has at least a few of these vigilantes. Chicago is no exception- in fact, the city's great size and endemic crime means it is blessed (or cursed) with a huge number of masked crimefighters, each with their own motivations, goals, personae, and methods. Some get along, some are mortal enemies. And you, of course, are among their number.

Tonight, however, isn't going to be like other nights fighting crime in Chicago. Somebody is coming this rainy evening. They've already killed the superheroes of five other cities, and have announced that Chicago's vigilantes are next.

“Like hell we are,” Chicago's vigilantes say. . .

There was one idea I had for this game that I wanted to bounce off people and see if they thought it was good or terrible. Specifically, I was playing with the idea of requiring two separate character sheets for a vigilante character (players of course are free to play as something other than a vigilante if it fits into the story). One is a full sheet, everything about that person. Their name, age, personal history, everything. This is only for that player and the GM, though. What everyone else in the RP gets to see is just what's publicly known about the vigilante. I was thinking it might take the form of a police dossier or something.

I want to get more into the ethics and difficulties of being a superhero, and giving more importance to secret identities is one way to do it. Revealing your identity to someone willingly should be a gesture of enormous trust and faith. However, having it discovered by accident or force should be a life-changing and dangerous event. Either way, I feel like there's great potential for drama and character development there.

Is this a feature people would be willing to try in this game or is it too much of a complication?

I'm very pleased to see so much interest! An OOC will be up sometime in the near future.

In the meantime, in there anything in particular you folks would like to see in this RP? Anything you wish to avoid? Any questions or suggestions for me?
