Prologue:
It was a cool summer morning. the boat "Lacy" was sailing along, heading back towards it's home after carrying cargo from its most recent trade. Here and there, fragments of rocks stuck out of the vast ocean, occasionally with little pieces of drift wood around them.
One of the ship mates shook the shoulder of his captain, "Sir? There's something strange in the distance." The man said
The captain grunted and grabbed his telescope and looked to where the man pointed, "Is that a ball?" The captain grunts, "Samuel, move the boat closer to that thing," he says to the third man on the boat.
Samuel does so and soon they reach the floating object. Samuel gasps as he sees what it is before the others do. It is a giant pearl, much larger than a human's head.
"It's a pearl, captain!" Samuel says to his captain
"It looks more like an egg..." A flash glazes through the captain's eyes, then through the second man's eyes. They both go silent for a long time.
The pearl in Samuel's hands seems to glow with warmth.
"Captain?" Samuel says to him, now concerned at the silence.
The captain yawns, "Eh, it's nothing important." He says, then he himself starts to sail off.
Samuel frowns uneasily, but says nothing more. He sits down and stares at the pearl in his hands. As he looks at it, a small crack appears down it's center....
Later in the evening, the ship finally reaching it's dock, Samuel bounds from the deck and onto the dock, the pearl having large cracks throughout it's top and pieces began to chip away.
Most cities located under water or within large caves around the ocean world, but Samuel's island was one of the few mountainous islands, with his home having been carved into the rock itself. His home was not too far from the docks, considering one of it's sides touched the water, so he reached his home rather quickly.
"Agatha! Agatha, darling! We have been blessed!" Samuel shouts with joy
His wife, Agatha, looks up at her husband, startled, "What?"
He brings her the pearl, "The gods of the sea have given us a child..."
He peels back the top of the hollow object to reveal a small baby girl.
Not bothering to question it (because in reality, what I have written is waay too long and + nonsense so why not), Agatha is overjoyed.
The baby is named Harper.

This is a bit of a free-formed rp in the sense that if you have an idea for the plot, do it ;) The story will be given as we go on, but the short of it is that mermaids exist and our characters may be them. They just don't exactly know it yet.
Your character is the best friend of Harper, whom she has grown up with. Your entire family/backstory is up to you, just know that both characters believe they are normal humans.
Message me if you want in and maybe provide a short bio on your character~
Eventually, the characters will fall in love
any type of relationship works, be it gay or straight, ace or pan, whatever.
If you have any questions, please ask~
