Ultimate Comics: All-Star Marvel RPG

Welcome, True Believers. Welcome to Ultimate Comics: Marvel, an intoxicating land where creativity for creativity's sake can take priority and enable you to render stories and events you could only have dreamed of in all of your previous mundanity. In this universe, nothing in 616 Marvel is canon. It is entirely contained within the forum and your imagination. Am I over-egging it? Perhaps. It's still pretty cool to see.

We welcome you to a unique narrative opportunity to take any Marvel character character and reimagine them in a way that makes them pleasurable for you to write unique and original stories with.

Whether you're one for emotional drama or a sucker for physical trauma, the vast range of characters available could fit any genre or any purpose you could reasonably imagine. Is your interest piqued by a fresh interpretation of Bruce Banner that you really wanna try out? Own it. Love Thor but hate that darned old hammer? Sling it. Think that The Whizzer is in need of a drastic revival? That's good too. No-one is off limits here. Not even Doop. As long as they have appeared in a canonical Marvel tale on either the page or the screen they're free for refurbishment. Here, the MARVEL UNIVERSE is yours to mold.

//Story pending... W.I.P.

* Character applications must only star similar or reinterpreted characters from the Marvel universe. Characters can be picked from the main 616 comic continuity, spin-off series (Ultimate, MCU etc.) or from any Marvel movies, cartoons or live-action series. Any applications featuring Original characters or characters from other companies (DC/Darkhorse/Image etc.) can and will be dismissed.

* Two characters will be available to every player from the start. As a player proves to consistently post and/or consistently produce quality writing a third will be made available to them.

* There will be no calling dibs for characters. Every character is available to every player from the start - players cannot lay claim to any character without posting a complete character application. Multiple players may attempt to apply for the same character and all competing applications posted within 24 hours of the first will be considered by the GM, to be judged and selected as they see fit. Any applications after this 24 hour cut-off point will not be considered.

* You are required to post at least once every 28 days, although it is preferred for you to post more. If you fail to post altogether (without prior communication through PMs or the OOC thread with a viable explanation) for this time, your character will be released from the roster and be free to be applied for by another player.

* If you wish, you may then re-apply for the character. If accepted, you will be restricted to the use of one character for a probationary period of two weeks. Consistent posting during this time will re-enable you to pick up a second character. Failure to post during the period however will lead to a full game ban.

* You must post in the IC thread within three weeks of its approval. Failure to do so will enable other players to apply for your character.

* Player controlled Characters (PCs) may not be killed without permission from the player said character belongs to. However, feel free to brutally murder as many nameless Non-Player Characters (NPCs) as possible within the constraints of your own character.

* Butting into other character's story lines/events without asking permission prior will not be tolerated. It's rude and unnecessary - if you can make a good enough case and communicate with the other members your likely to be given permission. Interaction and politeness need to to go hand in hand if this is to be enjoyable.

* Legacy Characters/Sidekicks (Red Hulk, Ben Reily, Bucky, Rescue, War Machine etc.) may only be applied for if the player responsible for their traditional 'Mentor' permit it as their existence may go against the vision the pre-established player has for their own character. If accepted, communication between both parties will help to make the experience more enjoyable for both. Exemptions of the rule can occur if no such character yet exists in the roleplay or if the character can be feasibly reimagined without any association with their counterpart. Communication and cooperation is key.

* Any location within the Marvel U (on planet or off) is available to you as a setting for your adventures, so long as it is within your character's means to be there in the first place. Namor is bound to feel at home 10'000 leagues under the sea. Spider-Man? Not so much. Exceptions can be made if the story allows for it.

* Time-travel is forbidden(!), unless a character's origin demands it (a la Kang the Conqueror).

* Stay in character. Act like them, not as an extension of yourself with neato powers.

* Don't just play to win. The aim here is to produce fun stories and collaborations, not to conquer the world and enslave it's populous through untempered brute force. By the laws of probability there are bound to be battles your character cannot win. Embrace it.

* Please refrain from having your character perform any random game-changing actions; no one likes waking up to find that a player has had their character destroy the moon, least of all the population of Attilan. Only perform actions that your character can do and would do on paper.

* Respect the GM, and they shall respect unto you. If they ask you to change something, it's in the interests of the game for you to comply.

* The GM reserves the right to expel any member as they see fit.

* All regular Guild rules apply.

Most definitely. however, if you were to severe a few ties to Scott & Maddie, that could work. It comes down to how you carry it out. I'll keep an open mind to any CSes like this, obviously.

Yeh, Sorry about that. My credentials were wiped. It's to be expected at this early stage, just frustrating.

Well my idea was to essentially make Nate an actual brother to Jean instead of a child. This could essentially make him his own character so to speak and doesn't ruin anyone that wants to make Cable. Since despite having the same powers, Cable and Nate do really..act the same and Cable has more experiences, battle times, and that sick ass techno virus. This depending on what someone does but fair. I'd hate to ruin someone wanting to play the future me aka Cable.

I'm definitely in. I'll probably be interested in DD and Remy again. I was having a pretty good time with them.

Can't wait to see what the cast ends up looking like.

Alright... lets just gauge how this goes over....

Player Name: DrewVonAwesome
Character You Wish To Play: Peter Parker - Spider-Man
Moral Alignment (Hero, Villain, Walking the Line): Hero
Affiliation (what group/team/organization, if any, is your character affiliated with?): He is his own man… as much as he regrets it sometimes.
Character Origin & Backstory: Peter’s story begins before he was even born, with his parents Richard and Mary Parker. A pair of CIA agents who had been given specific training and enhancements for their particular line of work. The two had a long career working together and when they both retired to begin raising a family had already shared a deep love for one another marrying years before. They gave birth to Peter, who after testing found out that he had inherit some of his parents enhanced genetic code. It only became worse when further testing by the CIA figured that with time his powers would only grow stronger. So with the option to either hinder these abilities in him through genetics work by the labs, or nurture them. His parents choose to nurture.

Peter had a great few first years with his parents, they would play with him often as a means of seeing how much stronger, faster, and other such things he had become. However Peter’s parents had also made many enemies in their time working. Which all came back when both of Peter’s parents were shot and killed through sniper fire. The events so traumatic that Peter’s mind repress all the memories of playing with his parents and in turn, all of his more unique gifts.

Having to move from Washington DC to New York City, Peter at the age of six moved in with his Uncle Ben and Aunt May. A married, middle of 50 aged couple living in Queens retired themselves. Two people who were also the third generation in the genetics to not only work with the CIA, but get genetic enhancements from them. Both of whom continued to raise Peter, but kept quiet about his abilities. As they realized that Peter had seemingly forgotten all about them.

Peter, despite his athletic skills and charms, was often bullied in school for his very geeky personality. Even with his power deep inside, Peter never entered sports and never did much besides school work, and after school programs like chess club. During all this time though, May and Ben both started to get word back from the CIA on clues that had developed on the assassination of Peter’s parents. Links were beginning to surface between the person responsible and Oscorp. An organization that Peter’s parents began looking into before retirement.

As Peter has reached the final year of high school, he has been given a scholarship program by Oscorp, and asked to join with them in internship. Peter has connections already with the organization. One of his few friends being Harry Osborn, the son of Oscorp’s CEO Norman Osborn. Still Peter has been starting to feel a bad omen coming on. His aunt and uncle being more visibly worried for him, and Oscorp is seemingly restless about him joining or not.
Powers and Abilities (What can you're character do? What can't they do?):
‘Spider-sense’: A ‘sixth sense’ that Peter has that warns him of any oncoming danger. A pheromones based phenomenon that tells Peter where a particular danger is coming from in direction and distance.
Superhuman Strength of 20 tons
Superhuman speed, agility, flexability, and reflexes
Superhuman durability, and stamina
Wall crawling
Regenerative healing factor
Genius level intelligence
Web slinging contraption on his arms created by himself
Sample post:

‘Spider-Man,
Spider-Man,
Swings along and… no thats not it…

Spider-Man,
Spider-Man,
Flies along… wait I don’t fly, that makes no sense...’

As Peter Parker spent some time pondering the important thoughts in his head. He launched another string of webbing slapping hold of a nearby building as he swung around. Body swooping through the air as he aimed his next shot nearby. The city streets below had the usual sounds of cars, horns, angry people, swear words. Typical of a New York City afternoon. Sure enough not many seemed to notice the man swinging overhead with synthetic webbing in a red and blue spandex suit. Course sadly at this rate Spider-Man could only guess considering the multitude of events this city had seen, that a guy like him was probably not that exciting anymore.

‘Hey look its some guy being super… oh great only the 12th stinkin’ one of those. First big green men, then flying robots, now grown man spidah people. Damn forigners…’

Peter chuckled at his own thought before a sudden roar below caught his attention. As an old car raced through the city streets getting away from a trio of flashing cop cars all hot on the car’s heels. “Welp, looks like its showtime…” Peter Parker told himself, slipping into his new motif of Spider-Man.

Needing to pick up speed in his swings to catch up to the speeding getaway car. Spider-Man really put his momentum behind gymnastic like move. Finally just getting ahead enough Spider-Man leapt off of the last lining of webbing. Flipping through the air as he felt the slightly stinky New York City air flow past him. As Spider-Man spotted and stuck his landing onto the roof of the car with two crouched legs and a hand for balance, he quickly spotted three men in the car. “Hey guys if you’re in a hurry for the Nets game, I can already tell you they’re probably going to lose.” Suddenly a now all too familiar sensation creep up Spider-Man spine, which coincided with seeing the sheen of metal on a gun shining in light as it came up. “Okay fine guess you’re Knicks fans.” Quickly bending backwards to avoid the gunshots, Spider-Man got himself back up right before shooting a line of webbing onto the roof of the car. “Time to make like Ewing and sink a three pointer!” Spider-Man proclaimed as he leapt up, sticking his legs out as he swung quickly into the windshield. Slamming straight through and having his feet connect hard with the driver’s face. Despite now being in an awkward position with his upper half still outside Spider-Man quickly reached his hands in. Shooting balls of webbing at the other robbers and their guns to make sure they won’t be shooting him.

As Spider-Man quickly had the breaks on the car kick in, the tires squealing as the car finally stopped. The cop cars all stopped around the car as Spider-Man hopped back up onto the hood of the car. “Alright alright officers, no need to give me your thanks. Just doing my job as the friendly neighborhood Spider-Ma…” “GET DOWN ON YOUR KNEES NOW!” One of the officers shouted at him. As Spider-Man saw a lot more guns pointed at him, this time by the cops. “Okay I don’t know what they teach you guys at the department, but you don’t thank people by threatening to shoot them.” Spider-Man tried to reason. Only the reasoning went completely ignored as Spider-Man sighed to himself. Quickly making an escape with a web shot as he got away from the scene. Grumbling to himself about how they wouldn’t even let him finish saying his name.

’Man ain’t that a… wait… Patrick Ewing… does he even still play?’

Yeh. Take your time - I want to make sure everyone who wishes to compete at this stage has ample time, considering the state of the guild.

It depends on everyone else. I was thinking Year Two, purely out of not wanting to see another player spend their run solely doing an origin story. I propose a different take though. I suggest everyone plays their character at the stage in their development that they wish but give a specific epoch to a certain event that we year up from. Perhaps year three from the emergence of Captain America, or Year five from the discovery of the x-gene. Perhaps year one since a battle of some type. Unless everyone's happy with the system as is. Year two is fine.

I have no problem with year two as it fits perfectly with my plans.

What date does the RP begin at, though? Month/Year
And can we implement the timestamp system as we had in the last UDC?

Thinking of making a Ghost Rider app, he'd be a cop on some very hard luck, and instead of a motorcycle, he'd drive the Hellfire Cop Cruiser

I wanted do start near the end, really. October/September time. I'm definitely a fan of the time/date stMp, though I shan't be enforcing it as compulsory. It is expected that if you do however, that areas, weathers and events match up.
