What kind of control over ships do the stations have? Like are there no privately owned ships or something?

@Emma
I love this idea!
If I get my creative juices back up and flowing, I'll probably join.

However, I would like to point something out-
A total of 21 million people can be saved on these 7 space stations.
You said 80 million people were being left behind to die.
Current global population is over 7 billion- we reached the mark at 2011/2012, and that was 4 or 5 years ago. What happened to the billions of other people? A World War 5 might be devastating, but not enough to decimate 80% or 90% of the population- that's genocide, not war. War isn't that destructive.

@WilsonTurner Have you played Fallout? Best guesses for the Fallout nuclear war and its aftermath leave 3.2 million people alive out of a global population of 10.4 billion, so @Emma's backstory and worldbuilding isn't close to the boldest move in terms of post-apocalyptic fiction.

That said, I'm working on my CS now!

Their are privately owned ships. The Stations have there own ships used for transporting people/supplies on and off Station. But corporations, colonies, and private citizens can have there own ships. Space is the final frontier, so there are a lot of people exploring, or who have ships of there own that they use for travel, and typically get hired by others to transport cargo. So there are merchants, pirates, travelers, and so on.

Natural disasters, war, famine, nuclear bombs, and so on. The world was on its last legs, people were not doing so well. I'll change the 80 million to 11 billion. :D

Checks the thread.

Sees there is still missing info.

I kinda want to have an obvious, caulous alien threat. Like the flood in a way just non parasitic hopefully. A clear and present danger that I can be like "Pew pew space guns pew pew" is that way out of story?

@Bourgeoisie Never played it, sadly.

@Emma and @Marshall 2nding that motion too. An alien threat would be nice, especially if they're technologically on par with humans. You could easily see humanity getting very cosy in their technological superiority when all of a sudden, what ho? A foe? And in good old Mass Effect style, maybe they need the Cosmarians and Briari help to win.

A question about the stations/technology though. With stations in different galaxies, how the flip do they get there? Thats... a lot of space to traverse. I guess you could go some kind of Hyperdrive type deal, cause even with Faster than Light travel it'd take millions of years. It would also be super difficult to communicate with the space stations not in your own galaxy. There would be some serious lag. Unless, given that they were able to jump between galaxies, they had to go back to sending physical mail to each other. In which case I just thought of a great character :D

Ahem.

Quantum physics solves the communication problem.

Quantum entanglement can entangle two particles explicitly to each other, which will always remain in one of an infinite number of states, opposite to its opposite pair. Using this, you could build an ultra-secure instantaneous communication relay.

@WilsonTurner Yeah, saw that in Mass Effect too mate. It's cool, but also a little too convenient.

And I really wanna RP an intergalactic postman now.

@Marshall I had something in mind for the bad aliens, but if you have ideas I am all ears!!

@Space Boyfriend Sci-Fi FTL travel! I'm basing it kind of off the 'Dark Matter' tv shows traveling, and tech. In they show they get around in space by using FTL, and idk teleportation or something.

@Space Boyfriend
Too convenient? Really? It's grounded science, bud.

As it is, computers are reaching the point where we can make them any more smaller- meaning that we're making them as efficient and compact as possible. If we want to make REALLY powerful computing devices that will handle such complex things like quantum communications and FTL travel, then quantum superposition would be the next step. It's being studied right now- in a hundred years, this will have all undoubtedly become real.
