I was writing Daiki with this in mind

The idea was that he has had to be mindful and wary of the Grimm his whole life and he is this normal, poor country kid who can match others based on skill and practice alone - out of necessity. No complicated weapons, just one regular average blade. Basically, he wants to kick ass and not be afraid of the Grimm.

But the real beauty of RWBY comes in when you strap about as many useless and encumbersom attachments to a weapon that really doesn't need 'em.

There's a fine line between Practicality, and just downright Awesome. Where do you think the frick-fracking gun-hammer falls on that line? But then again, Jaune has proven that sharp things can still hurt if you slice with them. Whodathunkit?

If Arara was a more calculating bitch, she would totally find Christopher, sell Alistair out to him, and then have Christopher and his gang just break the shit out of Daiki, just so she can do her devil's advocate of "Oh, looks like your skills weren't enough after all. Wanna train with me?"

And all things considered, Shingeki isn't even a good example of 'out of necessity'. Hamazura from Index is probably the closest thing to 'skill and practice' I can think of, because Shingeki has that whole titan-shifting thing, while SAO is just OP Kiritard and gears.

I will still stand by this point no matter what.

Basically every recurring character in Ippo has worked harder than ANYONE I've ever seen. And they're fighting for real. No super powers, no mega energy, just raw skill and pummeling the shit out of each other until one drops.
(that and I'm a fanboy, sue me.)

That's not really a fair comparison. Sure I could go on about how badass Simon is, but that's in an AU where physics are fuckall.
But Ippo? Shit's for real, cold harsh reality, people get injured bad, have to take months off to heal, and even then, the amount of training they do is borderline fucking suicidal. Sure, against a God they might not do shit(except Takamura, guy could punch a building down), but against regular human beings in the normal world? You'd be better off getting hit by a truck than getting into a ring unprotected against any of them.
I'm done gushing now, Tree is sorry, but Tree likes Ippo. A lot.

Eh, I just find it nice when there's a dash of unrealism as well.

Like...TouMAN for example. That guy fights street punks, magicians, espers, and now even a goddess. He's been hospitalized a billion times, doesn't even have a tragic or inspiring backstory to motivate him into doing what he does, and still goes on to punch bastards and get bitches. Heck, he DIES thousands of times, has his existence erased, makes the whole world his enemy, gets backstabbed by his friends, has his role as a 'hero' destroyed when the world becomes a utopia, and still manages to go on solving shit.

Only problem is that there's no gifs of the things he's fought through in the latest volumes. q.q

Bleach was one of my favorites for the longest time (hence my username on all of the interwebs) but I fell out of it... Now days my favorite anime is probably Angel Beats, Code Geass or B Gata H Kei (just because of how cute it was)

Bleach used to be one of my favorite anime, and it was one of the first that I actively watched. I still enjoy it, but I also recognize it for what it is; A long running shonen series that will always follow similar plots, and never give emphasis to my favorite characters.
