As all young women settlers are taught, Amelia was taught make of the household arts, like sewing, mending, cooking, cleaning, ect. But she is also a skilled reader and writer, unlike many settlers. She enjoys learning about the plants of the plains and is a rather skilled gatherer, able to tell many helpful wild plants from the poisonous for the most part. Along with that, she also helps tend the vegetable garden, much to the bane of her mother. Skills of a 'lady' were also taught to her, but for the most part it went in one ear and out the other. Listening to such boring and rather useless lesson on how to dress, how to have conversations with each different station of a person in society, and which fork to use at dinner parties is hardly useful in the plains. But try telling that to her mother. At least her sister likes that sort of thing, so Amelia doesn't have to be under that pressure anymore.
