I had a bit of inspiration so...
Here's the idea.
Ever since the beginning of time, the gods and goddesses bicker and argue with each other. Once every so often, the two opposing gods fight and cause destruction wherever they go. Many mortal lives are lost in these wars and the places where the gods battled are rendered unfit for anyone to live in. The only saving grace to these past battles was that it was only one pair of gods that faced each other. Can you imagine what kind of destruction would take place if multiple gods faced each other at once?
One innocent and relatively young goddess realized this when she noticed every one of the other gods were bickering with each other and are on the brink of starting a great war that can destroy the fabric of every reality in existence. This goddess is CaΓ―ssa, (or Cassia), the goddess of Chess.
Before a war can be declared, she spoke up and suggested "Instead of having another tedious war that solves nothing, why not challenge each other to a battle of wits? See who is the better god through knowledge and foresight instead of through sheer power alone?"
The gods considered Cassia's suggestion. Some agreed, while others did not, creating an equal number for either decision (and thus almost having another standstill). It seemed as though the suggestion wasn't going to go through, until the God of Chaos decided to tip the balance and agree with Cassia's suggestion. His reason? Because it would seem much more fun than just a war.
The decision went through, on the condition that the gods would use champions as their chess pieces and players. A separate reality was created to host these chess games and the gods' champions are pulled from their realities, and even from death, to take part in the games. Cassia hopes that these chess games will not end in bloodshed, unfortunately, there are still those who wish death unto each other.
Basically, this is based off of the Anime Boston Chess matches (except with the actual characters instead of cosplayers). I'm thinking for how this RP would work would be that the focus isn't so much on the chess game itself (since I suck at it). It would be more on the character interactions and the fights that may take place.
For the chess matches, I was thinking that they would take place during the day on the designated giant chess board, and the last move of the day would be a move that initiates the fight between two opposing characters/pieces. The game would continue the next day after said fight.
The White Team and the Black Team would have their own mansions to stay in so they can interact with each other and rest up. Of course they can go into the town and look around if they wanted to. However, they're not allowed to go into the opposing team's mansions.
I'm not sure if I want to make the King and the Chess player one and the same, or if they should be two separate characters.
I'm thinking there would be multiple matches, just in case the RP goes on for a long time (beyond the first chess match).
The teams would be based off of each god's concept like
-law/order vs. chaos
-pathos (emotion) vs. logos (logic)
-Hope vs. Despair
-life vs. death
(any combo except good vs. evil, because that's too simple)
