NPCs
Leaders of Hakumei
Herald and honored champion to the Great Kagi Lord of The Tiamat Fist. He has led sieges against the undead hordes of the underworld and slayed the mythic titan creatures of Ibuki. Though reluctant to share a leadership role with a human, he respects Kotori Raiden for her warrior prowess.
Former undisputed champion of the Iron Daimyo Tournament, Valiant General and Daughter of Ujiko Jingsea, and Master of the Stone Willow Blade Style. She is beloved in the human community, often coined as the successor to Judon, the Warrior Wisewoman
Weapon(s): Daisho (A matched set of katanas and a wakizashi)
Class: Swordsman
Bio: Born a human, Tatsuji wished to be a swordsman his entire life. Given that he was born into a relatively noble household, it wasn't difficult for Tatsuji to be taught by the dojo nearby his village in the western province in the ridges of Koto. Coming of age in a generally carefree childhood, he became a proud soldier of the Susano clan and assisted in raids, battles, and anything else the Emperors prefect demanded of them. From there, his skills grew. Life was fairly simple; making money to take home to his family and ensuring his own welfare while celebrating and living life while he could. In his early twenties on an assisted delivery mission up the mountainous ridges of the northern province, his assigned merchant wished to stop and rest in a cave not far off the snowy paths. To which, Tatsuji begrudgingly agreed to. His merchant was a fairly young, pregnant woman and he was very tired, so once they were settled they both began to rest on that fateful snowy night.
He awoke to the sounds of screams, deep within the cave. As he rushed in, his Wakizashi drawn, he came upon a scene of horror. The merchant was tied upside down over a roaring fireplace and her pregnant belly slit open with no sign of her unborn child within. Terrified, he looked all around himself to find no one... until a shrivelled, screaming hag came barreling out of the darkness and pressing a stiff, clay oni mask to his face. All he could remember was the searing pain and the heat as it felt his body was torn... and then he awoke to his new form. A fire demon, his long black hair had turned into lockes of flame and his body twice its original size. The Onibaba-the hag-had turned him into one and explained that she desired for a husband to warm her lonely nights on the mountain and to fetch her more pregnant women for her to consume what grew in their bellies. Refusing his new existence to the best of his ability, he killed the onibaba. Despite removing his accursed mask, his transformation remained.
With news of his new form, the leader of his clan became uncertain of Tatsuji's direct affiliation. Thus, with begrudging consent, Tatsuji became reliant on secret missions away from the eye of the people of the western province and his family. No longer could he be around his friends, family and associates, he became confined to a life of a bitter mercenary when not receiving messages via a page from his clan for missions; mostly ones in which he needs to be sent to take out small villages with his new fire abilities. You would think they would be rid of him by now, since he's so much trouble to deal with. Yet he remains in the clan albeit physically far away from his leaders, considered by them to be a major trump card. He continues to send his family money every time he has the chance and dreams of one day regaining his humanity so that he may marry a wife and eventually have children. He fears his condition will always render him lonely.
Special Ability: Able to set his blades aflame at will during battle. Eventually, this could build into a small eruption in which he can set a single opponent aflame at will; this takes a great deal of passion built up to draw power upon, however.
Misc: -No one has ever seen him without his mask on -Has a rather diverse sense of humor
Name: Hisaya "The Pale Spider" Kaguyo Age: 785 years old Gender: Female Race: Oni - Elf Class: Berserker Weapons: Naginata, Katana, and Wakizashi
Bio: A young O-kuni thief turned rich artisan, influenced to become a warrior activist for her people before falling into an occult of darkness. Hisaya has lived many lives over the course of 6 centuries. She's loved and lost more times than she'd ever be willing to count. Now, she remains a devout warrior priestess to the Great Kagi Lord of The Tranquil Step. This path in her life is meant to serve as a karmic pilgrimage to atone for the unholy rituals committed as a chaos mage. Stripped of all magic, she is left with the burden of rage that once fueled her powers. With the aid of the Tranquil Step, she keeps her fiery nature at bay through meditation and honing of her bladed spider dance.
Special Ability: Complete 360 degree diameter field of vision within a 30 foot radius. This is the only ability that remained after The Kagi Lord of The Tranquil Step took away her chaos magic. Though she no longer possesses the ability to cast spells, she is knowledgeable about its use and application, proving to be a valuable consult about the arcane arts.
Miscellaneous: Her acceptance into The Hakumei is a controversial one, especially among humans who were the target for many of her blood rituals in the past.
Hidari was born out of wedlock, his father an impetuous and impulsive member of the wealthy Susano line and his mother a simple serving maid. His father denied the child and his mother was rejected from service in the castle when it was found she was with child. Thus the young Hidari grew up in the port city of Hofuna. His mother supported the two of them through seamstressing and "entertaining" sailors, but never let her son forget his heritage, his Susano blood. Hidari grew to resent the absent, useless bushi who ruled in their castles and collected taxes but did little in return for all they took. This bitterness soon grew to become hatred at the world as a whole and turned the youth down a dark path.
He went from getting into fights with other street youths to running with gangs. From there it was a short hop to larger crime organisations and before long Hidari had signed up with a pirate crew that terrified the local merchants. The crew - called the Sons of Mikaboshi - stalked the trade routes between Susano and Raiden, making their money either from raiding cargo or taking protection money instead. (And sometimes they raided merchants who paid them protection money anyway, just to keep the fear up.) Young, nimble Hidari was first assigned as a lookout, high up away from the fighting on the raids, to call if Imperial ships were coming to hunt pirates. But he found lookout duty boring and one lucky raid put a bow and arrow in his hands. From then on he was happy up in the crow's nest, raining arrows down on the hapless merchants and bushi overwhelmed by his savage crewmates.
Over the years, his skill with the bow and the reputation of the Sons of Mikaboshi grew. As he learned to adjust for the motion of the sea, Hidari soon mastered marksmanship and almost immediately was taking the first kill of any raid by sniping the lookout, or the merchant captain. He got the name "White Bolt" for his reputation of suddenly striking out of nowhere, like a bolt of lightning, raining down death. It didn't matter if the skies were clear or if they lashed the seas with rain; it didn't matter if the waters were placid or boiling with waves. White Bolt always found his mark. Of course, such success and reputation soon brought rivals and contenders, bounty hunters and bushi eager for glory. The Sons welcomed this competition, but of course it is a different matter to fight trained soldiers than it is flabby merchants and civilian seamen.
The campaign against the Sons was long and gruelling, lasting well past the death of the captain Mikaboshi, and Hidari taking the name as captain of the Sons, becoming the next Mikaboshi. What brought the bloodshed to an end was when the Sons captured a Susano flagship, the Emperor's Grace. Hidari ordered his men to take the bushi prisoners, to command a ransom and humiliate the bushi but also to ease hostilities; the Sons had suffered too many casualties to risk a full-blown war with the Susano family. When inventorying the hostages, Hidari realised he recognised the face of one of the older bushi - his father, Susano Tenjin. Hidari made Tenjin an offer. In order for the Sons to cease their piratical raiding of the traders, all Tenjin had to do was formally acknowledge Hidari as his legitimate son and heir. Then the Sons would stop being raiders and become a feared party of the Susano navy.
It was meant as a mockery, at least in part. A token gesture, just twisting the knife some. Hidari didn't really expect his father to do it. For all his other heirs had died and Hidari was all the family Tenjin had left to carry on his branch of the Susano family. Hidari was presented with a name, with a formal daisho and with a mission to protect the seas - no longer a pirate but a corsair, a privateer. But, of course, the high-minded Susano elders resent being known as the clan that employs pirates and has volunteered Hidari's services towards any dirty, dangerous job they hope will cleanse the stain he represents on the clan's reputation; either he succeeds, bringing glory on the clan, or he dies and they are rid of him.
Special Ability: Hidari is merely human and so lacks any magical ability, but has excellent balance, accuracy and agility born from a life at sea. He can jump, leap, flip and climb like a trained acrobat and has excellent physical strength and stamina. He maintains his astonishing accuracy despite any adverse conditions in weather or environment, able to target his opponent despite wind or rain, or unsure ground. He also has command of a small pirate fleet of about half a dozen frigates, with a crew of around one hundred and fifty men.
Misc: Despite nominally being the heir to a branch of the vaunted and extremely high-ranked Susano family, Hidari has lived most of his entire life among criminals and ronin. As such he lacks much of the honour and philosophy of other bushi, as well as much of their classical education in the arts and classics. He is considered a bushi for legal, social and political purposes and has all the rights and responsibilities of a bushi. However, he has a plethora of skills and experience bushi typically lack from his time among the commoners and the criminals; sleight of hand, deception, the use of poisons...
Name: Zashiki Warashi Age: Unknown Race: Zashiki Warashi Oni
Zashiki Warashi are an incredibly small population of Oni that reside primarily in the Western province. Despite their few numbers, these creatures have created quite a reputation for being mischievous tricksters, thieves, and spies. They are the most racially diverse subspecies of Oni; their size and shape differs drastically between individuals but they all share the same dark appearance with black hair, black skin, black eyes and black nails. They refer to themselves as a particularly large family and treat each other as such, making them very guarded and wary of outsiders. Legends say that Zashiki Warashi are a small group of rebels from the Shadowlands who escaped into Igan under the cover of darkness many millennia ago, and have adapted to live in the world of light.
Zashiki Warashi are seen as some of the most harmless and, in some cases, pathetic examples of Oni to walk on this plane. They're annoying, cheeky, greedy Oni who universally delight in the misfortune of others and go out of their way to be a nuisance. Legends say that homes and villages were first lit artificially at night to keep Zashiki Warashi at bay, as they are all capable of using shadows to move about and damage property. Compared to the powerful Yokai or the mysterious Kitsune, Zashiki Warashi are seen as a laughing stock - their reliance on darkness and their weakness to light makes them easy enough to banish with a simple flame.
There's only one catch - Zashiki Warashi are voracious eaters. Their preferred meal? People.
A ravenous Zashiki Warashi is nothing to scoff about. The hungrier they get, the brighter their bioluminescence becomes; they fluoresce and become easier to spot with glowing eyes, hair and nails singling out a hungry specimen. All of a sudden their harmless ability to move through the shadows becomes a deadly trap - one foot out of the safety of the torchlight is more than enough for these fast, strong and agile creatures to drag you down and rip you to pieces.
These days cases of attacks are few and far between; it's been around 50 years since the last innocent was devoured by a Zashiki Warashi, and the culprit was executed a few weeks afterwards. Nowadays Zashiki Warashi are bargained with, supplying livestock or copious amounts of raw meat in return for leaving one's belongings alone. Sometimes they are even hired to gather intel or spy on others, especially between the wealthy merchants around the Western Province. Their danger has been extremely diluted over the years; their reputation as mere annoyances was much better than being feared and attacked for being bloodthirsty monsters, so the Zashiki Warashi worked hard to maintain their image.
Gender: Female Appearance: A short, vaguely feminine looking creature. Zashiki is almost completely pitch black with incredibly dark skin, a short bobbed haircut and a liquid, tar-like sheen on her eyeballs. She only stands at 3ft, adding to her infantile appearance - she sports the large eyes, pouty lips and chubby cheeks of a toddler. Zashiki has thick dark nails which are usually cut very short and blunt, otherwise they will grow into long sharp talons.
Weapon(s): Zashiki mainly uses Hand-to-hand combat or her Kyoketsu-shoge Class: Ninja Bio: When Hakumei was first put forward to the public, everybody presumed it would be a select few of the finest warriors Humanity and the Oni had to offer. Nobody thought it would become a melting pot of misfits and outcasts; even fewer thought a Zashiki would be even considered for membership. When the family approached Gaignun and offered up a candidate, many villagers scoffed at their audacity. However, any Oni worth his salt would know to be just a little wary of the Zashiki's track record, even if they claim to have changed their ways.
"This one seems fairly disappointing," admitted the Warashi Elder, "but I can assure you she is the best daughter we have on offer at the moment." Yes, as it turned out, the juvenile Zashiki scarcely left the shadowy seaside grottos where many Zashiki lived due to a recent complication. 'Recent' in Oni terms, of course; she had crept onboard a merchant's vessel in a bid to run away and her hunger nearly cost the lives of the sailors. Were it not for some speedy intervention from her older brothers and a lot of lanterns, the runt would've created quite the scandal just off the coast of the Western Province...
In typical Zashiki Warashi fashion, money was passed and the incident was hushed before it became too big of a rumour. Pretty easy to cover up, the girl hardly made a name for herself in the towns so there wasn't any suspicion when she was 'grounded' to the family grounds after that little stunt. As you already know, Zashiki Warashi are notorious for playing tricks and annoying the locals, but they make damned good spies when you need them, and they're greedier than dwarves. Their reputation's already pretty filthy as it is, the last thing they needed is a near-massacre adding another mark on their name.
Why send out such a defiant and unpredictable brat to a supposedly high-calibre taskforce, I hear you ask? Think about it; the little creature's grown up around dozens of very experienced shadow-walkers, most of them are already informants and stealth agents, the others are far too cunning to be tied down in any binding contract. And the Zashiki Warashi family isn't like your human families - they care for each other dearly because they're all liable of causing another family disaster. Nobody is ignored, and everyone keeps an eye on each other. So how did she manage to slip past thirty-or-so highly skilled and very intelligent Oni in one go? Furthermore, how did she manage to go through the harbour unnoticed, then board the ship? There are more Zashiki crawling in the alleyways of those port towns than there are in the caves, I can assure you.
It's the only way I can think of that saved her life; the Zashiki are a bunch of fun-loving pranksters but they don't take kindly to relatives muddying the name to the extent where they pass the thin line separating 'annoyance' and 'threat'. They also don't turn a blind eye to potential just because the kid made a mistake - even a big one like that. The sentence was a good 40 years of being locked up at home, but they didn't treat her like a prisoner. Some of her older siblings trained her, showed her a few tricks. Everyone became her prison guard, though; whenever she attempted escape she was always caught, brought back, and punished for it. According to the elders, she lost her right to go out when she risked the lives of innocent people.
Three years into her punishment and suddenly the Elders offered her up for this new taskforce thing. I don't think they're going soft...it's a business agreement, see? A way to clear their name - something the Zashiki Warashi desperately need. No doubt a deal was struck - 'behave yourself and bring honour to your family, and we'll let you go.' Boy, you should've seen the look on her face when she realised she was being traded from one prison to another! I'm not too sure if she has people in Hakumei acting as her parole officer or not, but if she ran away from the General's specialist taskforce, she'd be a wanted fugitive. No town in Igan would be safe for her. By the time she realised that though, it was too late to back out, she was signed up by the Elders and off she went.
Just goes to show you, not all chains are visible. That Zashiki is eager to see the world but she's also pissed. I wonder what kind of shit she'll stir up within the ranks when they meet her properly.
Special Ability: Shadow-Walking. Every Zashiki Warashi is capable of this ability. In the absence of light, Zashiki Warashi are said to be capable of moving around as they once did in the Shadowlands. They become weightless, able to float around in the darkness and pass between shadows like spirits. Their dependence on darkness means that they become stronger, faster and much more dangerous in the dark, but their shadow-walking is restricted to any shadow they can see that is large enough for them to squeeze through.
This ability ties in with their weakness to light. Zashiki Warashi become sluggish, dizzy and nauseous if exposed to light. They burn very easily, and are increasingly weakened if they are constantly kept in bright light for an extended period of time. It is known as lightsickness - the only cure for it is to return them to the darkness and wait for them to recover.
Misc: Culturally, Zashiki Warashi do not have individual names until someone they wholly trust names them. Every Zashiki Warashi responds to either Zashiki or Warashi or both.
Chiyoe no Kurushime "Tormented Thousand Generations"
Age:
47 in human years, but rather young for an oni
Race:
Nure Onago, a Nure Onna
Gender:
Female
Appearance:
Weapon(s):
Class:Mage - Masters of the mystical arts, mages are proficient in one elemental spell, but their skills with warrior weapons are very poor.
Bio:
She was born of sorrow like more Nure-onna are. For a child of her bloodline to live, their human father's lives must be taken in exchange. And this usually leads to contempt and bitterness to lie between mother and child. But not in the Kurushime women. For three generations the female oni have fallen in love with human males. And for three generations their lovers have been so enchanted with their beauty, so enraptured with their love and so loyally dedicated to their happiness that they have willingly given up their lives for the Kurushime women.
And it was so exception on the night Chiyoe was born, a full moon as her mobile and the lapping lake waves as her lullaby. At first her mother could not stand the sight of her, for even one look at her daughter brought on fits of sobbing wailing cries. It was Chiyoe's grandmother who cared for her mostly in the every early years of her existence. For, sincerely, that was all it was. An existence.
With no battles against humans to wage, the Nure-onna and their magics were abandoned. Living either in brothels or as mistresses to high officials, there was seldom a need for any other talents than their beauty. And, in her grief, Chiyoe's mother gave her body to a wealthy man, for his pleasure. The smiles that graced her mother's face were no more than those of a well painted mask. With the death of her father, her mother's love as gone with him.
And Chiyoe was nurtured for by her grandmother, though her mother was indeed kind enough to ask her new master to let them live in their luxurious estate. So Chiyoe was not uncomfortable growing up, even though the other concubines' children never played with her, for fear of the oni blood in her veins. And there were often whispers of envy among the human women, since the Kurushime women were all youthful beauties that aged far too slowly and never seemed to get sick or come down with pox. But it was the men's eyes Chiyoe disliked most of all.
Those leering eyes came from boys, guards, tutors, and even the lord of the manor. They all fell on her with heaviness and tried to worm their way into her nightmares. Leering eyes and lecherous gazes making her skin crawl as if she could fell their hands all over her... Her grandmother trained in the manners of a proper Nure-onna. To remain removed, aloof and distant from the terrible humans. To rise above their scorn and poisonous words. And to never lose herself to her magic.
For an oni that harms a human is intolerable.
Special Ability:
Heavy magic spells over water +Drawing the water from plants to form mists to hide in or use as a sphere of protection
Misc:
((i know it's in Chinese but it fits her perfectly))
Bio: The small village of Seki buried deep in The Ittoki Pearls is the ancestral home of the of the Saito Clan and the Spirit Hunters. The mountainous terrain is perfect for training the mind as well as the body, and it is a prime location to hunt rare and powerful beasts for Spirit Hunters. This was the world Lyn was born into, and she hated it. Lyn was born the only daughter of one of the branch families and even from a young age she was thought that her only use in life would to get close to the main families heir and try to empower her family through marriage. This thought never set well with Lyn, in fact it down right infuriated her.
Lyn was determined to change her fate and began to train herself. Unannounced to her family Lyn sought a master from within the Clan, one of the Elders that would teach the Spirit Hunters of the next generation. Luckily the young girl was able to find a master that would not only train her, but would also keep her training secret from her family, Master Shan. Master Shan was a kind lady who understood Lyn's dream, and she saw talent in the young girl, talent that would go to waste if the girl had only been groomed to be a wife. So at the age of 12 Lyn took her first steps to becoming a Spirit Hunter.
The next six years pushed Lyn to her limits and broke them. Determined the young girl's progress was amazing, she could easily beat other students her age given the chance. But Master Shan's training was no walk in the park even for a natural. Lyn had many times where she had to fight for her life during the training, more so than any normal student would have to go through, and by the age of 18 Lyn was ready to show her progress. A hunt had been arranged by the head family for their heir Mitsuhide to obtain his first Spirit, their prey a Dire Frost Wolf. Lyn heard of this hunt and knew the perfect way to show her power.
Lyn followed the group in their hunt for a few days until she was able to find a trail to track the beast. As soon as she had her thread Lyn was off. The lone hunter was easily able to maneuver and track far better than the group that now followed her allowing Lyn to find the Dire Wolf's lair well before Mitsuhide. This was both a blessing and a curse as Lyn would soon find out she didn't find the lair on her own accord, the wolf had lured her there. Alone Lyn faced off against three frost wolves and the dire frost wolf in a bloody fight in which she almost lost. Standing the victor Lyn didn't waste any time, she immediately started the spirit ritual to absorb the Dire Frost Wolf's spirit.
Her first time was something that could not be explained with words it was amazing, yet painful it was like being torn to shreds just to be put back together again and when she awoke from the meditative trance her life began anew. Instantly she noticed that her sense of smell and hearing had been amplified, and something was coming. Lyn instantly shot up and turned, Before her stood Mitsuhide and his hunting party. Enraged that the girl had taken his kill Mitsuhide charged Lyn. The fight was over quickly Lyn was far to powerful for the boy and she was unable to control herself as her blade cleaved him in two. The remainder of the hunting party fled and to tired to chase them Lyn knew what would happen.
She returned to her village a few days later expecting the worst. She was to be put to death for slaying the heir to the family "in cold blood", but luckily Master Shan was able to convince the elders that Lyn was to good of a spirit hunter to waste. After agreeing to a demonstration of her abilities the elders of the clan agreed with Shan's words and instead of putting Lyn to the sword they exiled her. Never to see her home or family again.
Lyn left Seki that day and headed to the Empire. For the next five months she wandered as a Ronin helping out villagers in need while looking for a place to call home. It wasn't until she was on the hunt for a Demonic Oni that she would find exactly what she had been searching for. After assisting the Heir to the Kujitsawa clan defeat the Oni she was offered a position within their ranks. Impressed by the Young Lord's presence and fighting skills Lyn accepted the position. In the nearly six years since that time Lyn has become a strong warrior in the Kujirsawa Clan and has even been made the personal bodyguard to the Young Lord, Yoshitsune, and will follow him into hell if need be to ensure his protection.

Bio: The Watarimono are a strange and mysterious species of Oni. What is known about the race, however, is that they usually live solitary and isolated from their own and travel far and wide from their home region. They are so rarely seen that there has only ever been one sighted in Igan, this being the lone bladesman Tamotsu himself.
The first sighting was from a common farmer four years ago; spotting a strange, unseen Oni walking alone coming from the snowy region in the south and walking into the O-Kuni province. This Oni was tall, slender with two great horns protruding from his head, of which contained one eye, and no mouth. As the Oni walked past, he bared no word, nor gave a glance to the onlooker. He simply walked along the path.
The second time word of Tamotsu traveled around was in the Susano territory, at an Izakaya bar. The lone Oni swordsman sat alone with no drink or food ordered. He sat away from the main crowd of regulars and drunkards. It was then that two young ruffians stampeded into the bar and drew swords at a waitress and the barman himself, demanding money. The Watarimono warrior stood up and very casually walked forward towards the two.
They paid no attention at first, until Tamotsu’s sword was suddenly unsheathed, a trail of blood trickling down the edge of his Chokuto blade. The robber who held the waitress hostage fell to the ground, his sword clattering beside him. His accomplice spun around, seeing his fallen criminal comrade and dark skinned Oni standing above. The man charged at Tamotsu, aiming to run him through. Calmly, Tamotsu sidestepped and parried the attack, twisting his wrist in a riposte, disarming his opponent. In a mere second, the attacker’s head lolloped and rolled away from his shoulders, and the body slumped above the other. With a flick to rid the criminal’s blood from the blade, Tamotsu sheathed his weapon, and walked away, exiting the bar, without saying a single word.
Special Ability: Tamotsu is actually able to communicate telepathically. This power is only people in his vicinity and would talk normal, his voice almost ethereal and echoey. He can also talk in groups, able to communicate with multiple people at a time as if he talked normally. However, as of now, this is the extent of his telepathy.
Name: Kujitsawa no Yoshitsune Age: 31 Race: Human Gender: Male Appearance:
Yoshitsune stands at 5’11 and has a fairly thickset frame, a body clearly tempered on the battlefield. Despite this many of his features are also quite delicate, especially his hands - an odd culmination of diplomat and warrior. His face is well formed with deep ridges along the jaw line and high, prominent cheekbones, his complexion is pale and his brow furrowed. His face is one that matches well with the a face of concern or caution, and a smile can sometimes seem alien when they appear on his face - despite this they are bright and full of emotion. His eyes are a deep sea green, filled with wisdom and they almost have a caressing feel to them - despite this they can on occasion don a stare that seems as if he is peering into your very soul. His hair is held in a traditional top-knot and is typically well oiled - giving his jet black hair a nice glossy sheen to it whenever his helmet is off and the sun catches it.
Weapons: A five foot long pole-arm Naginata, a tempered steel blade with a decorative black lacquered wood pole, adorned with red cotton. His Katana holds a very similar design ethic to his Naginata, this is used for the truly close quarters, brawling in the mud and rain types of fighting. Strapped to his side is also a Tanto - which is used for collecting heads and, if the need ever arises - to commit the act of disembowelment in ritual suicide, rather than bring any dishonour. Class:Berserker.
Bio:Yoshitsune hails from Igawa province - this province a subsidiary of the major provincial land that is Ameratsu- a proud warrior, son and heir to the daimyo of the Kujitsawa clan. The province is a small and typically mountainous region, it prides itself in its stonemasons and lacquer works that produce the finest bows and staves - and of course above all it prides itself in its Naginata warriors - trained by Shinto-Buddhist monks that have temples dotted around the mountains, their patience and calm in the middle of battle is unnerving, but even more so is their feverish and ferocious charge into battle - ever the need to claim the first kill for their Daimyo has ensured that warriors of this province be both respected and feared. Yoshitsune is definitely a man who professes this sentiment more than most others in the clan, the heir to the clan itself he has been trained in many arts that is befitting of the next ruler. Trained in poetry, calligraphy, hunting, horse riding and the biwa, a fair list of traits that continue to grow with every day.
When Yoshitsune ascended to adulthood he began to assume new roles within his clan, mainly he helped to ensure that the realm was secure and above all, safe. The Oni presented a threat that required vigilance, despite the fact that a peace between the Oni and humans existed it was little secret that it was tense, humans are a naturally violent race, one that seeks conflict and rarely gets on with anything that it sees as its equal, or a greater than itself. Oni, despite being extremely wide and varied as a race are typically more powerful than the average human, and despite the peace, there are always those that seek to break it or care little for it, both human and Oni alike. It’s this life that Yoshitsune has been living that has caused a deep-seated mistrust and hate rise for the Oni, despite the fact that he knows that many live in relative peace within his own province, Igawa it doesn’t change the fact that they are typically stronger than the average human - if they willed it they could easily annihilate the human race, probably the only factor holding them back is that it would be a long and bloody war. This is a sentiment and thought that has dwelled in him for a great deal of time, but one that forced the seed to blossom was one Oni in particular, a fearsome demon Oni that called himself Gagoze - a monstrous entity that attacked the pilgrims and priests at the temples that dotted the landscape. By the time Yoshitsune and his retainers made it to where it nested it had already killed 12 people; an abomination that needed to be killed. Yoshitsune was repulsed that an Oni would prey on the devout and pious - religion was one of the few cornerstones that allowed Oni and Human alike to work together and live together. It was the autumn dusk when Yoshitsune and his loyal retainers stood before the Oni, the demon has piercing red eyes, a face that could curdle milk - covered from head to toe in matted fur and large talons that he used to kill his prey. It shouted at them in a guttural unknown language before lunging at Daijiku no Iawaysu, a man whom had served Yoshitsune and his clan loyally for years, in mere moments his life brought to an abrupt end. And with that Yoshitsune and the rest of his men attacked as demons themselves, a fervour and wind at their back that the divines themselves would struggle to muster. Hate and anger fuelled their swings and it cost them two more lives and several injuries before the beats lie broken at Yoshitsunes feet - his Naginata buried deep into its beastial chest.
This creature, this monster was what started and fuelled a great and deep hate for all Oni kind in Yoshitsunes breast; he was kind to those whom he knew where kind hearted, but his hand never rested by his side when near them from that day, his blade and spear both ready to strike if their hearts ever changed. That is what Yoshitsune has spent his life fighting against, protecting both his lands and people from the dangers that come from the lawless and honour-less curs that seek to damage the world they live in.
Despite this sentiment, Yoshitsune picked up a powerful spirit warrior - whilst not an Oni, it wasn't exactly far from the mark in his eyes, she aided a great deal against the fight of another powerful Oni, ever since that day the once Ronin; Lyn Saito has become his most trusted and powerful retainer, and ally. The Kujitsawa clan is loyal to the death to the Emperor; his will divine, ordained through the gods themselves and voiced by the Emperor - to defy any order, is to defy the Gods themselves an act punishable only with death - it is through this divine will that the heir of the Kujitsawa goes to O-kuni village, in order to work with Human and Oni alike to do that which he has spent much of his adult life doing - protecting the realm.
Personality: Yoshitsune has been taught in diplomacy and etiquette, he is well spoken and in terms of talking to his betters and superiors he is humble, to his peers and equals he is respectful and to those whom are his lessers he is commanding but kind. Never one to incite conflict through the art of speech he will is best described as a diplomat. This is however very different when it comes to those who are his close friends, and those he regards with high respect. Whilst his demeanour is commonly serious and formal, he can easily let his hair down so to speak and get chummy with everyone, typically this occurs after he has went through a battle with them as in his opinion you don’t know someone's worth until you see them fight in the heat of battle.
Special ability: Battle cry - Yoshitsune unleashes a primal burst of energy deep from within his lungs, a very loud cry of pure unfettered energy that inspires those that with him to fight with renewed energy, as if given a second wind, and equally as it is effective for his allies it is devastating for foes, it has a very large impact on enemy morale and willingness to fight, those that don’t flee will struggle to fight as effectively - but it can only be used once per engagement.
Misc.: His father is named Kujitsawa no Yoshiie, his age is 61 and is the current Daimyo.
