Σωτήρ: the Solar Age (Mecha) - Recruitment Thread

Yo, Crimmy here.

I'm looking for more players to join Σωτήρ: the Solar Age, a mecha RPG that takes heavy inspiration from all sorts of robot anime (although its foundation is sorta SRWOG-esque). Basic summary of the plot is that forty years ago, way after Earth started colonising space, an ancient alien spaceship was discovered under Siberia, motivating the countries of the world to create a unified task force, the OSDT, to defend humanity from possible hostile threats.

However, due to no aliens turning up, budget cuts pretty much crippled the OSDT, leaving it with only three ships and a mishmash of giant robots and turning the group into more or less beat cops for the Solar System, where they'd fight pirates and the like. You'd join this game as a member of this task force (on the ship Jannah), using whatever mecha you got (I allow for a pretty decent variety, although they're more grounded than supernatural) to help them out against corrupt forces (and maybe one day actual aliens). With enough success, maybe they might actually get some better funding again.

Right now, the ship's chasing down a pirate stronghold amongst the asteroids near the Martian colonies, but there's been rumours of insurrectionist movements being formed for the Red Planet in this day and age.

the organization being called OSDT makes me think of ODST's which in turn makes me want to play something with sci-fi paratroopers, but I like mecha and might give it a shot. I mean I haven't seen anything else that interested me in a while.

That's a mistake we make a lot too. I forgot Halo existed when I renamed these guys the Outer Space Defence Treaty.

Yeah. But how do you want your Brave? AI-controlled not!Transformer? Piloted ala Might Gaine? A combiner (we don't have them yet unfortunately)? Powered by a G-Stone? Or just Brave-influenced and heavily Obari?

Beam weaponry, a giant robot that transforms into a lion, drones that are more or less equivalent to computer bots in their movement, improved prosthetic technology.

So what you're saying is if I was to make a character with a cool AI robot buddy, AI robot buddies would then be a thing in the setting and thus totally kosher?

I guess to use a comparison, Zeta-era Universal Century Gundam tech?

So I understand why that includes Layzner and OG Macross, but if you just wanted Gundam then why did you say this game was "heavily influenced" by Nadesico, Aquarion, and Grendizer? I mean, all three of those have completely ridiculous mecha (Daimajin/Denjin/Tetsujin in the former, literally everything in the latter two) who would be over the line in any scenario given the limits you've placed. You also mentioned that's it's founded on SRWOG, which is a setting that started ridiculous (black hole engines among other things) and only got sillier and went harder on the power creep as time went on. If you wanted Gundam, why didn't you just say you wanted Gundams to begin with? Just saying, it would probably help you avoid misunderstandings like this.

@Menhir Sorry about that. So far the setting's pretty mundane Gundam, but the others were mentioned there because it's OG-esque. There aren't any Black Hole Engines or La Gias right now, but it's sorta Early OG right now. I plan on inserting more of the weirder stuff in as the setting moves along. Which is probably something I should've made clearer in the topic.
