Jax stared at the fire for a bit and then glanced up at the two people that sat across from him. Who knew he'd be in this position. He found his thoughts straying to Aria and hoping she and the rest of his old group were okay. He removed a piece of sandpaper and a whetstone from his bag and began cleaning his machete.

"Well Oliver" said the tall man in the uniform." So your the one who stole from my camp. I have right to carve you up for what you did, but I'm going to let you go as I knew you were there the whole time, as a matter of fact I was watching you from the trees to see if you would try again". "If this young man hadent come along and got in the crossfire you would be dead...so count your blessings". " anyway have a beer". The man said opening a cooler and holding out a bottle of aged Tuskegee hard beer. "It'll calm your nerves".

He stuttered, "N-no thank you, sir. And I'm real sorry about stealing. It's a doggy-doggy world, as my Dad-I mean friends, would say." He took a deep breath. "Is it alright if I travel with you guys? I think I could learn from you all. I need to learn how to be willing to do anything." He cleans some blood off his bat with a dirty rag. Please, say yes. Please, say yes. I really could learn from them. "But I'm not just a freeloader. I could really help you guys! I'm fast, which is useful for scavenging. I was taught how to shoot this." He gestures to his rifle, "With moving targets. By the way, I don't know your names."

"Well suit yourself. The man says as he opens the beer. Its OK I know not everyone is capable of fending for themselves. I'm Capitan Tim McCauley. And if your father tought you to shoot that then you need a lot of work"

"As I. Regards to the traveling I could always use more men. BUT you WILL have to learn disapline and develop an iron will. If you have a gun you better be ready to pull the trigger. I will teach you how to fight and survive effectively, BUT it won't be easy, you WILL get hurt and possibly die, but in this world we are all going to eventually. And in the regards to names, call me SIR.

"True, sir. That's why I'd like to stay with you all. You said you were a captain? You must know how to shoot. Listen, I beat my Dad to death with this bat, and shot my Mom with this gun. But knowing how to bludgeon someone isn't gonna cut it." He gets into the moment. "I need to know how to shoot those bastards. I want to kill them all. I won't spare a single one. "Well don't get gungho about killing, when you get overconfident about war that's when it comes and bites you in the ass. As for the rifle, I can shoot, very well in fact. I graduated at the top of my bootcamp platoon due to my marksmanship skills. If you truely want to learn, then I can teach you how to take the hat off of one of those Rotter's at 1,300 yards". " and of you managed the beat your father to death with that bat then he clearly was not fit to live in the modern world, and you are clearly superior in make and skills"."I will teach you, but know this, this will be live fire training with real danger, sugar coating one of those smelly bastards Isnt going to help you survive". "So first thing when your done, grab a knife over on the log and meet me at the old gassstation on Oliver road, that is were we will begin".

Jax stood up and clapped his hands together. "Well, thanks for the fire there Cap. And good luck to you Oliver, but i must be off. Groups dont tend to work out for me very well." He belted on his gun and knife, slung his machete over his back, shouldered his pack and picked up his rifle. "Adios amigos." Jax said, tapping his pointer finger to his temple in a mock salute.

"Wait just a minute!!!!" Yelled the Capitan. Its been months sense I've seen another living soul Im not letting you out of my sight. And just because it hasent worked out before doesn't mean it won't now."

"So you are going to stay right here until we can figure out what to do".

"Besides I have a base not far from here,a days hike at the most. It is stocked with food medical equipment and weapons, I was sent out here by my commanding officers to see if there was anyone left besides my battalion. So we are going there, is that clear!?"

Jax whirled around, anger in his eyes. "You seem to have the wrong impression about me, captain! I'm not a follower and i sure as hell dont take orders from anyone! So if you wanna play at soldier then fall in! But if not, then consider yourself discharged!" Jax stared the other man in the eyes, not wavering for an instant.

"Look Im Sorry about how a acted, I've been out here for 6 weeks waiting and scouting the surrounding 50 square miles for survivors,and already had to kill 2 for firing on me. I just want to have the human race survive. And I let my personal feelings get in the way, can you forgive me"? " and by the way I have a vehicle, I stashed a camouflaged Humvee In the trees a few yards from here, at my base there are at least 50 civilians that are still alive and my whole battalion is there, so if you would please reconsider it would mean a lot." Tim said this with genuine sadness in his voice, and chocked up when he said the word survive.

Jax sighed and nodded. "Just dont treat me like a grunt. I've been in the nitty gritty for over a year and lost all of my people in the process. I'll come with you, but i'm not taking orders. Deal?" Jax held out his hand.

"We have an accord" said Tim and shook jaxes hand. "But just to let you know the Colonial might not be so nice, but I'll put in a word for you". Tim smiled. For the first time in a long while he was happy.

"Your Colonel can shove it." Jax laughed and looked at Oliver and then back to Tim. "So Cap, its nice to know that some form of the military is still operating in this shithole."

"Yeah me too, we were stationed here during the shit storm that followed the descovery of the pathogen, we have held this position valiantly for over a year. And we are proud of it". The minor gang that inhabits this area has been no major problem sense the swarm hit the city". " then are pretty good at staying out of our way, seems now that they are only focused on surviving. I had a run in with a few a day or so ago, they stayed far away from me and greetid me with a gruf"morning, scouting again?"so they stay out of my way"

"Hmm i wouldnt know about any gangs. I lived about an hour outside of Raleigh but i've been walking for about a week. Yesterday, i saw a sign that said Charlotte was about 35 miles from here. I didnt think i'd walked that far." Jax shrugged.

"Well just a heads up, if you see any paint tags that say," stone crusaders " that's them. They stay away from us ever sense their main hold was overrun about 4 months ago." But we get a few hotheads that try to rally a war party to fight us, but its usually new guys in their gang and they die by the Rotter's before they reach us."
