"I'm not sure that it's going to be that simple, Ahna," Fendros said, looking sympathetic but keeping a serious tone, "I know that we can't just forget that it happened, that we have to accept it, but even if I tell myself that, I still start shaking when I think about it." Fendros glanced away, he found this just as hard as Ahnasha did. "It's just that we've avoided even mentioning it up until now. Each time I think about it now, I just get tense and overwhelmed, and the memories make less sense than they did before. Now that we're not so tired all the time, I thought that we might be able to piece it together again. Putting into words is the only way I can think to do that," Fendros finished clasping a clean loincloth to Rhazii, "I don't know if it will help or not, and it might hurt, but I don't think it will make it worse. Can we please just try?" Fendros looked up at Ahnasha with the middle of his brow raised. This hope wasn't big, but it was something.

"So they died out too..." Sabine bowed her head and seemed to shrink slightly in disappointment. At least there was something new in what Kaleeth said. "What were the Kothringi like?" Sabine asked, looking up again, "I've not heard of them before. Were they Imperial, or Breton? Nord? Were they Redguard?"

"I don't know what you want me to say." Ahnasha answered. She appreciated what Fendros was trying to do, but she wasn't even sure what they could talk about. It did not seem like just bringing it up again would help, though she wanted to do something. Without any ideas of her own, however, she had no alternatives to suggest. "I don't see how it will help us, but...okay. What do you want to talk about? I really don't know where to even begin on something like this."

"They were...Kothringi." Kaleeth answered, as she did not believe that ancient race of men could be described as anything else. "They were Human, but skilled enough to live in the swamps. They lived just like the Argonians did in villages, but they didn't follow the Hist like we did. They also fought a lot with the Argonians, so I don't really think they were peaceful. I mean, they didn't fight all the time, but they weren't always friends either. I don't know what it would be like now if the Flu didn't kill them all, but if they still liked to fight, it might not be better. There is no way to really know, I don't think."

Fendros didn't answer immediately. Instead, he picked up Rhazii and carefully handed him to Ahnasha. "I'll clean his loincloth," Fendros said, finding a bucket to fill up with seawater. He thought of something while he had his back to Ahnasha, tossing the bucket out of a side hatch with a rope attached. "Perhaps, we could share recounts of it, in our own words." There was a faint splash and Fendros began to pull the rope back in, "It will be painful, but maybe it will help to put it in perspective. I still remember like it was yesterday." Fendros had no idea if it was going to do anything except make them weep, but something told him that confronting the memories would help in some capacity. It was going to hurt to deal with them in any fashion. Fendros pulled the bucket aboard and added one more thing before Ahnasha could respond, "Putting us through each others' pain might not be the way, actually. Whether we should tell it to each other, or someone else, I'm not sure."

"They sound mean, whoever they were," Sabine thought out loud, "I wonder if there were there any other groups who lived in Black Marsh. I've heard of Nagas and Lilmoth...Lilmothet, but that's all. And Kothringi, now." Sabine always had trouble remembering the word Lilmothiit. She doubted that it would be the last time she got it wrong. "In Cyrodiil, there are all kinds of people. I bet that every kind of race lives in the Imperial City. If it's so big, it can't have just Imperials in it."

"You want to recount it? I don't really see how that will help anything, honestly." Ahnasha responded skeptically. She doubted that Fendros intentionally wanted to cause her any more pain, but she did not think describing those memories again would help. "I mean, I think I understand what you want, but...I just don't think that will work. Really, I think that would just hurt. Coming to terms with it to the point we can talk about it? I don't think that is possible, for us or anyone. Some things are just too painful. Yeah, we shouldn't just ignore it, but...there has to be something else. I will never be comfortable with what happened. I couldn't handle the pain, and Rhazii suffered for it. That pain is never going away, but...surely there is some other way to get past it, and I don't mean just ignoring it."

Kaleeth nodded. "I think Janius said there was. He has described the city to me, but I'm still really excited to see it. The cities we've been to have been bigger than anything I've seen before, and this city is supposed to be bigger than all of them. I don't really understand how people build such big places, honestly. It seems like it would take forever." She commented. A few moments later, one of the sailors brushed past her on the way to whatever task she was working on. It looked like the sailors were becoming busier, so she was more worried that she was in their way. "Maybe we should go back down below the...what is this? A deck, right?"

Partway through washing Rhazii's cloth, Fendros looked up at Ahnasha and threw up his arms. "What else are we supposed to do, then?!" Fendros raised his voice. In the resulting pause, he looked down and lowered his arms. "I'm sorry..." The discussion had certainly put him on edge, "I'm not sure if it will help, but I just want to assert that talking about the memories won't kill me. If I know that much, maybe I will be able to stop myself going into a panic whenever I even think about it." He looked up hopefully at Ahnasha, "Do you understand?"

"Okay," Sabine smiled and pushed off the balustrade, following Kaleeth into the ship itself. She was glad that they were having such a smooth conversation without Sabine slipping up. She walked a little more confidently as they proceeded below deck. "Have you seen all of the other races, Kaleeth? The ones in Cyrodiil, anyway."

Taking a deep breath and running his hand over the bandage that covered his cut finger, Drinks-In-Sun approached Meesei with a confident swagger. They were in a spot on the deck which didn't have too high traffic to be an issue, so he leaned his elbows back against the balustrade and tried to act casual. "So, you're Meesei, correct? I've seen you a number of times aboard the ship, and I must say, I find you enchanting." Drinks spoke in smooth Jel, but his grinning expression spoke of mainly sleazy confidence. Off to one side, a group of sailors was watching on, with another Argonian crew member murmuring to the others the translation of Drinks' words. Drinks raised one hand in a half shrug, "Perhaps we might get to know each other better?" He brought the hand to his chest and bowed his head, "I am Drinks-In-Sun, your most ardent admirer."

Ahnasha sighed in resignation, shaking her head likely before regaining eye contact with Fendros. "Fine, alright, just...go ahead. Explain, and I'll listen, for all the good it will do us. Just don't blame me if it makes things worse." Ahnasha answered, her voice slightly elevated at first. With the yelling around him, Rhazii became upset and started to cry for a few moments before Ahnasha was able to lull him back into a calm mood.

"I, well, I don't know. What is there? I've seen all the races that you've seen since I've been with you. I had never saw anything but Argonians before I met all of you. I think I remember the names of most of the races, and with all the places we've been going, I've probably at least seen them all, but...I don't really know much about them. You probably know more about them than I do." Kaleeth answered. While she was familiar with the layout of the ship by this point, she really did not know where they should go, so she decided to just follow Sabine. However, Sabine might not necessarily been aware that she was leading.

Meesei had not expected anyone to be approaching her, but she had to give a smile at the man's boldness. She was not interested, of course, but the fact that he was trying was at least flattering. Even without her responsibilities and obligations, she likely would not have been interested in a sailor, but even so, she did not feel like making him feel insulted. The least she could do was reject him in a way that would not make him feel bad, so she tried to make it seem more like something that was her fault. "I appreciate the compliment, but that probably wouldn't be a good idea. I do not really want to get into it, but it really would not end well. I am sure you can find someone else with no problem."

"Okay, right," Fendros wrung out the water from Rhazii's cloth, then put it aside for the moment. He would empty the bucket and leave the cloth to dry shortly. For now, he slowly found a place to sit and leaned forward. He took a moment of reluctance, wondering if the pain would really be worth it, but he reminded himself that they didn't really have anything else. "I remember waking up in the dark room facing you. We were chained upright. There was a table, or did that come later?" Fendros rubbed the side of his head, trying to stay calm and composed. He remembered vividly what happened, but for some reason the order of events was harder to recall than the events themselves. "That Argonian walked in shortly after we woke up, he had dark scales and fine clothing. We agreed to protect Rhazii and not give anything away that would endanger him." Fendros took a deep, uneasy breath, "He started by asking about the layout. I wasn't scared at first, I think you spat on his face, but then...that's...I saw the knife, and then it was in your throat. I was terrified then, I thought you were going to die. You couldn't talk. He kept hitting you...it was the healers that stopped him..." Fendros buried his face in his hands, he needed a quick moment to stem his tears. The facts were not the same as his nightmares, in fact they weren't as bad, but the pain and fear was still there.

Sabine aimlessly wandered until she and Kaleeth slowed to a stop amongst the hammocks. Sabine supposed that this was as good a place to talk as any. Sabine then put a finger to her mouth to list off the races she knew, "There's Bretons, like me and Ariel; Imperials, like Janius...um," Sabine decided to skip the races that made up the pack, as Kaleeth already knew them, "The ones that you might not have seen are High Elves, they're like Fendros, but tall and with yellow skin; Bosmer, Wood Elves, they're short and have long ears; Redguard, they're like other humans, except with mostly dark brown skin; um, there's Nords, they're big humans that live in the cold. I think there are a few on this ship." Sabine squinted to think of any others, but of all she had seen in Tamriel, that was it. "That's all, I think. There's a member of each of the other races in the pack already." Sabine covered her mouth nervously once she realised that she mentioned the pack, but if anyone was listening, hopefully they wouldn't know what they were talking about.

Unfortunately for Meesei, Drinks was more persistent than her manners would probably allow. "Ah, but no one on this ship is as radiant as you, my flower." He held his arm forward slightly dramatically, "I beseech you to spare my heart! All I ask is for one night in your presence!" He leaned closer and lowered his voice, "No one else need know, if that is your concern. There few enough on this ship that know Jel, and all are out of earshot." It was quickly becoming clear that Drinks' intention was not a long term one, but he was of course oblivious to the real reason for his rejection.

The one translating the conversation nearby received a comment from a sailor listening in. "Well, he's good at dodging the possibility that she might have another man without saying so." Another sailor added a murmur as well, "He must have practised on himself regarding his own homely commitments." That elicited a chuckle from the crew gathered. Normally the words would be completely inaudible to Meesei, but they had not bargained on her lycan ears.

Ahnasha was trying to remain unemotional, to not give into the pain that normally came with these memories. It was, understandably, a difficult task, so her response came across as more harsh and uncaring in its tone than she actually felt. "Yes, that's indeed what happened, I think. Probably. I don't like to think about the details. I can still remember the pain like I just felt it if I think about it, which I now am. If that had been the worst of it, there wouldn't have been a problem, but you know it wasn't; you know what happened next." She said, though her thoughts continued. "And now you're going to make me relive it."

Kaleeth looked around to see if anyone had been listening to them, but she did not actually see anyone paying attention. Some were asleep, others were talking amongst themselves, but no one was looking at them. They had to hear Sabine, but she did not think anyone noticed. If they did, Kaleeth did not notice them. She did not know what else to do at the moment, so she decided to lay down in her hammock, which she was finally able to climb in reliably. She had just woke up not long ago, so she obviously was not tired, but she felt like it would be good to relax for a while. "I think I remember seeing some of those in some of the places we've been. I wonder if they will find me strange in the city? I mean, I find the Imperial traditions strange, so it must be the same for them."

"Okay, now you are just trying too hard." Meesei said with a chuckle. She did not look at him and instead continued staring out at the shoreline in the distance. It was hard to make out any details with how far away the land was, but with how long they had been traveling, she knew they were still off the coast of Black Marsh. "You see, I am not the average traveler. Really, I am many things. A mage, a scholar, and in a way, a caring mother. Although, honestly, I do not like to label myself, the one most applicable to you is that I am dangerous. I am someone you would be better off avoiding. Not that I wish to harm you, just that you would be better off staying away from me. Besides, you should not be making offers that you cannot live up to, specifically that, with that group over there listening to and translating this conversation, nothing you are saying is secret."

"Yes," Fendros nodded briskly and wiped his eyes dry, taking another breath to speak. "He turned to me and threatened you, asking me about the layout of the cult's xanmeer. I don't know exactly what I said, but I knew I had to protect Rhazii, like we agreed. I know that I didn't tell him then. He had you put onto the table, I still didn't tell him anything. He began to...cut you, and I didn't know why at first. I couldn't have imagined what he intended to do at that point, but I could see you pain, and I could hardly bear it. He asked me why we were helping the cult, and I thought that telling him about Rhazii might stop his torture." Fendros slowly shook his head, "He spoke like he cared, but he didn't. He offered to rescue Rhazii during his bloody attack, but he was a liar, I could see that much. I told him as much. I wish I hadn't. I sometimes wonder if he would have been true to his word if I had agreed, then he might not have..." Fendros' face tightened up completely. A tear fell to the floor as the worst image of all came to the forefront of his mind. "He...might not have..." Fendros knew that he had to stick through his recollection, though as much as he tried, he couldn't hold his emotions back. "...have opened you. I could see your...lungs under your ribs, your heart, your intestines. But, the worst part was that you could see it and I could see your pain. I tried to stay strong to protect Rhazii, but I should have ended it there. Once he was done, I could see all of your pain in my mind, and at the same time I wanted to protect Rhazii. All the panic made my beast spirit come to the front of my mind. I knew he would kill you if I turned, so answering him was all I could do to stop it. It still put Rhazii in danger, and he paid the price for my weakness as well." Fendros' breathing was shallow and strained at this point. He held his head supported in his hands, still facing the floor where tears would occasionally fall. "I'm sorry, Ahnasha. I'm so sorry. I should have been stronger."

"I don't think will be very different from cities in Black Marsh, I don't think you need to worry." Sabine breathed a chuckle, "Sometimes I think that Imperials find Imperial traditions strange. Some of them don't make sense to me as well." Sabine shuffled awkwardly on the spot nearby Kaleeth's hammock. It seemed strange to be standing over her like this. "Can I...get in the hammock as well?" Sabine asked quietly. She still saw Kaleeth as a sister, so she saw no harm in it, but she didn't know how Kaleeth would react. Over the past couple of months, Sabine had found it comforting to be close to Meesei, Ahnasha, Lorag, and sometimes even Fendros and Janius when they didn't mind. She didn't harbour anything more than familiar feelings for them, and they all knew that. Compared to other pack members, however, Sabine wasn't really physically intimate with Kaleeth in the same way.

Drinks still kept his eyes wistfully looking to Meesei as he listened. He was already brewing up a response, something along the lines of seeing his fair share of danger as a sailor (to varying degrees of truth) and displaying a willingness to face the danger to be with Meesei, but the mention of the eavesdropping group made his expression drop into horrified surprise almost immediately. He had a double take between Meesei and the deck and eventually found the group listening in, and his turn of tone was so stark that it was almost comical. "They? Who?" He pushed off the railing and took a couple of angry steps towards the group, "Hey, bugger off, the lot of you! You're ruining this!" Drinks took one last desperate look back towards Meesei and then his shoulders slumped, knowing that it was ruined anyway. "Bah!" He waved a hand dismissively, "Suit yourself." With that, he put his hands in his pockets and walked back towards the group in shame, the group now erupting in laughter at his blunder.

Janius held Leaps in his arms and was about to go below deck before he noticed the tail end of the incident with Meesei. He approached Meesei with a confused expression. "What was that all about?" He asked, not sure whether he should be laughing as well.

Ahnasha tried to remain stoic, but the memories Fendros was repeating were just too painful for her to remain unaffected. As he spoke, she slowly lowered her head and turned away from him. She found herself just staring at the top of Rhazii's head, trying in vain to hold back her thoughts. She did manage to hold back from sobbing herself, but only just. Even as Fendros finished his recollection, she remained facing away from him with her head down, completely silent. She gave him no visual or spoken response, just a silence that said more than either of those ever could.

"I...guess so?" Kaleeth answered in a questioning tone. She did not quite know why Sabine would want to get in her hammock when there were plenty of other ones open, but she had a hard time denying requests from the rest of the pack. "There isn't really much room in these things though. Be careful not to tip us over; I did that a lot when we first got here, and two people makes it harder to keep it the right way up."

Meesei gave a glance to Janius as he approached, as well as a grin. "Oh, just a sailor making a fool of himself. It would not have been bad had he taken my first answer. It would have been flattering, really, but he did not give up quite so easily. Why, did you put him up to it? I seem to recall that you were quite interested in my...relations with others at one point. Even without my responsibilities, though, a sailor would not quite fit my tastes. At all."

Ahnasha and Fendros sat in their mutual silence for some time. The only sounds was the creaking of the ship, footsteps on the wood above them, and the lapping of the water outside. Fendros was wracked with guild, fear and anxiety and barely managed to progress from holding his hands against his head, to looking up more and holding his hands over his mouth and nose, exposing his tears. His hands were shaking such that it didn't look like it would ever stop. Not only that, but his breathing was still strained. In his mind, Ahnasha was right, reliving the memories was a bad idea. Now he felt worse than he had before even entering Thorn.

After wallowing in the mental struggle for long enough, Fendros knew he had to do something to stop this shaking. He was panicked, adrenaline filled, and utterly shaken. He latched onto anything that could help, and he came across the idea of trying to meditate, like Meesei had taught him ages ago. If it could calm his beast spirit, maybe it could calm him. It was extremely difficult at first, closing his eyes and concentrating on his breathing ran the risk of seeing the affecting images flash over his minds eye. He kept at it, though, concentrating on his breathing and taking slow, considered, albeit shivering breaths. He slowly felt like his breathing was steadying, but he felt as though he would need several minutes before he was lucid again. He didn't know whether Ahnasha would start with her recount, stay silent, join in, or simply walk away. Her judging silence was not something that Fendros wanted to concentrate on now.

The initial anxieties seemed to lift from Sabine's frame as she carefully climbed into the hammock with a smile. Kaleeth was right, keeping balance was difficult and it was a tight fit. Sabine and Kaleeth lay shoulder to shoulder then and Sabine began to relax. For all her talk of trying to be a sister to Kaleeth back when she was going through hard times, Sabine couldn't say that she felt this familiar with Kaleeth back then. "So what do you find about Imperial culture that is strangest?" Sabine asked, continuing their conversation.

Janius remained confused, looking to the Argonian walking away, then to Meesei, then to the Argonian again. A smile started to spread across his face as he began to join the dots. All of a sudden, he stifled a laugh, "Wait, you think I...?" his stifled laughter was let loose as he threw his head back. Leaps had to steady himself by grabbing onto Janius' shoulder. "I think you give me too much credit, Meesei. None of that was my doing, I've never even talked to that man." He began to recover from his laughter, "I think you just legitimately attracted another, that sounds flattering enough, no?" Still chuckling under his breath at the coincidence, Janius began to walk away shaking his head.

Ahnasha did not know for how long she was silent, only that the silence between them was long enough to build up tension to a palpable degree. Even so, it took her a while to calm down; even Rhazii was growing restless at the silence. Eventually, however, she finally raised her head and turned around to face Fendros. Her voice was unsteady and she was shaking slightly, but she did manage to give a response. "Look, Fendros, this...I know what you are wanting. I know you are wanting to find a way past this. I agree that we can't rely on that medicine forever, that isn't a cure. But this...it is too painful; it isn't helping. I mean...it could help you. Talking about it, that might help you, I hope it helps you, but me...I can't do this. This isn't for me."

"What I find strange? I...don't know where to start. It's all so different. Even the way they work together is different from my village. Janius said there is a lot of buying and selling with these gold coins I've seen you all using. In my village, we just gave people what they needed. The gods they worship are different. The...eight or nine gods they have don't live in the world like the Hist do. Though, I guess Sithis is also like that, so that part is kind of the same. They are so strange with clothing too. Those...dresses, that women wear; I don't know why anyone would want to wear them. They just don't make sense." Kaleeth answered.

Fendros continued to anxiously stare at the space in front of him while he calmed himself, but nodded at Ahnasha's words. "I understand. I'm...I'm sorry to put you through that, it was a stupid idea." Fendros stood up and emptied out the bucket he had filled overboard, then picked up Rhazii's cloth to find a place for it to dry. Even though he had done some breathing to slow his heartbeat, his dexterity left something to comparatively be desired. "Perhaps if we keep thinking, we'll find something else to try," Fendros said with false hope in his voice.

"Yes, the dresses are hard to run in. Or climb things in, or anything really. I have worn a pretty dress, though. I think that's why people wear them. I don't normally try to make myself look pretty, but being in that dress felt...it felt nice." Sabine put her hands together, "Maybe it's like hair. Imperial women don't seem to mind wearing annoying clothes and pulling at their hair to look pretty. Maybe if you make yourself look really pretty, it's even nicer? It seems like a lot of trouble."

"Yes, I'm...sure we will." Ahnasha answered, eager to get off of the topic. She knew Fendros wanted some sort of resolution to their issues, and she felt like she was holding him back, but those memories were just too much for her. They needed to find some other solution, any other solution. She just hoped their travels would give them some sort of opportunity. For the moment, however, she just needed to distract herself. "Let's just find some way to pass the time. I don't really care what it is at this point, I just don't want to be left to my own thoughts."

Kaleeth gave something of a skeptical grunt. "Hmm, I don't know why someone would think a dress would make them look pretty. Janius said I look better undressed. I guess they just think differently. If that is why they do it, I think it would make sense. In my village, people would go through trouble to make themselves look nice, so I guess it's the same thing. I always wanted to try it, but I never could because I was a hunter. Too...impractical is the word, right? It still is, really. If I tried putting rings in my fins, I just know it would get caught on something. It happened to one of my friends, and she said it really, really hurts if it does."

Up until it was time for lunch, Fendros and Ahnasha decided to alternate time between playing with Rhazii and studying Orskan's tome. Compared to their memories, the problem of their differing life spans seemed almost miniscule, but still enough to motivate them. Rhazii's laughter was of course very effective at improving their moods as well. Fendros didn't particularly percieve any improvement from recount his memories, but he held out hope that it might help him understand his condition. If anything, it helped to reorganise the memories in his mind to be more coherant, rather than a series of images that didn't seem to regard chronological order. That didn't feel like an improvement, though. Sabine and Kaleeth continued to talk the morning away, finding their newfound curiosity about the world to be mutual. After a short while, Janius found them and asked what they were doing. He seemed confused to see Sabine interacting with Kaleeth much at all. Sabine simply answered, "Just talking." By the end of it, Sabine felt much more comfortable with Kaleeth, and Kaleeth perhaps felt a bit more like a part of the pack. That's what Sabine hoped, anyway.

The rest of the day proceeded smoothly, if uneventfully. For Ahnasha, anything that could get her mind off of the prior conversation was welcome, and the tome was a suitable enough distraction. For Kaleeth, spending time with others was her preferred method to pass the time. The long conversation with Sabine gave her many questions, some of which she asked to Janius, but many that she could only really answer through experience. She still had fear and anxiety for the new and unfamiliar places they would be visiting, but curiosity proved to be a stronger force in her mind. Through the weeks of study aboard the vessel, Ahnasha learned more about how to begin the long path to extend her life, though it wasn't particularly savory. For her goal, she needed an in-depth understanding of the forces that bound her soul to her body. In essence, she needed to become a necromancer. It was a practice looked down upon in almost all of Tamriel, and she could not say she found it appealing either, but for what she wanted, there was a lot she was willing to sacrifice. From her own magical studies, she already had some knowledge of conjuration, so getting started was rather quick. Not long after she started, she was already to the point where she could reanimate rat carcasses for a short time, and during the journey, further improved the spell's duration. Unfortunately, given a lack of corpses, she could not test her spells on larger creatures. Beyond her studies, most of the rest of the voyage was rather dull, though that was perhaps for the best. The Dunmer Reynal was just as keen on avoiding them as they were of avoiding him, so they only had a few more unpleasant encounters with him. The only other point at which Ahnasha became significantly upset was when the ship stopped in Leyawiin to resupply. It was her hometown, where her parents and family likely currently lived, and for the entire day that they were there, she did not even leave her bunk except for her most basic needs. The reason she gave to Fendros and the others was that she did not want to risk being seen by someone who knew her, but with how depressed she seemed for most of the day, it was clear that there was more to it than that. For many of the others, the appeal of the voyage was wearing quite thin by its end. Lorag rather liked the regular access to ale, but the fact that it was tightly rationed frustrated him. Of course, he recognized that, were it not rationed, sailors would dehydrate themselves by overdrinking, and they would run out of their ale long before they reached their destination, but that did not prevent him from complaining. Out of everyone in the pack, however, he seemed to get along most easily with the sailors, as their personalities were much closer. He joined in on many of there bets and competitions, and when he was not with the others in the pack, there were a few sailors he spoke with regularly. Similarly, Kaleeth tended to talk with the sailors more than most of the others, but for different reasons. She was a social individual, and when she could not speak to the rest of the pack, or when they ran out of things to talk about, she tried finding others to speak to. However, compared to Lorag, there were less who she could get along with, and some of them, especially Argonian men, gave her kinds of attention that seemed to upset Janius, and after a while, she stopped talking to them altogether. Meesei was less social with the crew, though she did talk with a few of them from time to time. Drinks made a few more advances on her, with no more success than the previous. Otherwise, when she was not with the pack, she passed the time with meditation, as usual. It was early in the morning when the ship finally came within sight of the Imperial City, so the Captain sent down someone to awaken their passengers so they could leave before the crew needed to start unloading cargo. The sailor was meant to awaken them quietly, and not disturb the sleeping members of the crew, but being that it was Nirasi he sent, she chose a much more direct approach. "Alright ya lazy fetchers, rise n' shine. The city awaits, in all it's pompous glory." Nirasi shouted as she entered the bunks, immediately producing a few groans and curses from some of the tired sailors.

The weeks passed and the boredom upon the ship soon became nigh unbearable. When he wasn't enjoying time alone with Kaleeth, Janius tried to find some friends aboard the ship. He quickly found that his identity amongst the crew closely revolved around being partnered with an Argonian. Under normal circumstances, he didn't find the concept strange, but the way everyone talked about it made him feel so unnatural that it was like he was a freshly turned werewolf again. Between that and the advances that the Argonian males made towards Kaleeth, his social interactions seemed to be tense, especially with very little to do. It was most uncharacteristic for the normally confident and charismatic Janius. Most of Sabine's time on the ship was, for the first time in her life that she could think of, memorably boring. All but the kindest hearts on board learned to avoid encouraging her questions, if only to avoid torrents more of them spilling forth. Soon, she was shooed off by just about any crew member, claiming that they were busy, or sleepy, or just didn't want to deal with her. Some were rather rude when Sabine attempted to talk to them before they went for naps. She was especially glad to have Kaleeth to talk to. With the both of them so curious about the world, they could swap details about their lives for hours. Being parents, Fendros and Ahnasha had far less free time, but still more than they knew what to do with. Orskan's tome dominated much of their headspace behind Rhazii, and frankly it was more comfortable than talking about their torture. As hard as Fendros tried to think, he couldn't understand how to solve the problem without his mind getting flooded with anxiety. He had noticed that recounting the memories seemed to be less painful than before he had mentioned the story out loud, but it wasn't nearly enough to stop the pain entirely. He did find that meditating gave him a surprising amount of relief for such a simple activity it was. Fendros surmised that there might be someone in the Imperial City who knew more about wounds of the mind than he and Ahnasha did. The stop over at Leyawiin had been a great relief for most of the pack. Everyone was glad to be back on land and most were glad to be out of the choking humidity. The break made the rest of the voyage slightly more bearable. Fendros was understanding, but still worried about Ahnasha at Leyawiin. As such, he didn't spend as much time off the ship. However, nothing much he could say really helped. Another issue at the back of their heads when they reached Leyawiin was their dwindling supply of dream remedy that Ariel had given them. They were down to their second and last bottle, which only had about a third of its original contents. Leyawiin had some of the ingredients, but Sabine could not locate them all. Out of concern for Ahnasha, Fendros decided to reduce his dosage to once every four days. The nightmares came back in earnest, but the relief every few days was blessed. The pack awoke to Nirasi's shouts, some with more enthusiasm than others. Fendros had taken some remedy the night before, so was disappointed to have his sleep interrupted, but his energy soon came to him. Janius came around normally, but wore a smile of eagerness to see the city again. "We've arrived?" Sabine seemed to spring out of her hammock as if she hadn't been sleeping at all. "We've arrived!" She repeated, enthusiastically smiling.

While not as energetic as Sabine, most of the pack was quick to arise after hearing of their arrival. After weeks of repetitive and monotonous sailing, they were finally going to be leaving the ship for good. Meesei yawned and stretched out her muscles as she sat up in the hammock. She was not quite as elated as some of the others, mostly because she still had in mind the worries of how to get to Bruma in time, but to see the city was something she had still been looking forward to. Meesei smiled at Sabine as she stood up from the hammock beside her. "I am glad to see you are excited. I must admit, with as many times as we have seen it from a distance, I too have been looking forward to seeing it up close." "Ah, so you've all not seen the big city yourself, have ya? Well, I'm definitely gonna join ya up on deck. It's always a laugh to see those reactions." Nirasi commented with a chuckle. "Myself, I'm just wantin' my shore leave." The pack had brought with them only the minimum of what they needed, so it was not much work to prepare for their departure. Most of their belongings were already packed away in their bags in the storage room, and since it was not precisely acceptable to openly carry weapons apart from knives in the city, most of them remained packed. Kaleeth had been told that it would be best to change back into her dress while in the city, but she conveniently "forgot" to do so until it was time for them leave. After all, none of the female sailors wore dresses, so she couldn't stand out _that_ much. The ship had already docked in the waterfront district by the time Nirasi led the pack up above decks. When they emerged, Kaleeth had expected to see the city's distinctive tower, but she had not expected that she would have to look up almost vertically to see its top. Without a doubt, it was the tallest thing she had ever seen in her entire life. She stood in awe, her mouth partially agape at its sheer size, and she had not yet even cast her gaze on the rest of the city.

As soon as she laid eyes on the white-gold tower, Sabine cocked her head to one side. It was still taller than anything she had ever seen, but for some reason she expected it to be larger when up this close. It was likely that the scale was the issue, as its base was still obscured by ring walls. Where her mouth went agape was with just how expansive and crowded the harbour was. It was twice, or almost three times the size of Thorn's docks, and there was barely a square metre that didn't have someone walking, or hauling, or hawking, or something. The sound the crowd made was so loud and homogenised that it was almost impossible to discern any single voice. Janius could understand Nirasi's notions when he observed Kaleeth's reaction. Being from a place where the tallest things were trees, an artificial structure of the tower's size, even if it was technically build by ancient elves, was probably unlike anything she could even imagine. Janius laughed and put an arm around Kaleeth's shoulder, looking up at the tower with her. "I reacted in exactly the same way when I first laid eyes on it. What do you think?" When Fendros emerged, he took a deep breath of the salty and slightly rancid air of the docks and found himself in surroundings he didn't think he would witness again. "It's been a long time," He remarked to Ahnasha, taking her hand, "Have you been here before? If so, how long ago?"

Kaleeth clearly had a hard time responding. Even with the walls hiding its base, the tower was colossal. She wondered at what it would be like for her to be at its top and look out over the land. It would probably be better to ask what she _couldn't_ see, rather than what she could. She had always been impressed by the old Ayleid ruins in Black Marsh, but this gave her a whole new respect for what they could do, as she remembered Janius telling her that it was them who originally built it. She wondered how a race that could have created such an impressive structure could have ever died out. "I...I...I don't. This is just..." She stammered, finally taking her eyes off of the tower to look around the docks around them. It was so densely packed with people, she wondered if there were more people here than in all of Thorn. Fortunately, being as social of an individual as she was, she was not afraid of even large crowds. More than anything, she was amazed. "There is just...so much of _everything_ here." While not nearly as amazed as Kaleeth, Ahnasha was clearly impressed by the sight as well. For Rhazii, he had been in enough cities and crowded places since his birth that he was not as afraid of large crowds as some other children, but even so, he seemed uncomfortable enough to hold on tightly to his mother. At the very least, he was not crying out at the top of his lungs. Upon Fendros' question, Ahnasha shook her head, still looking out over the sights with a slight grin. "No, I have never seen it except from a distance. The most I ever traveled when I lived in Leyawiin was to Bravil. I think you and Janius know more about this place than any of the rest of us." Nirasi gave a satisfied laugh upon seeing Kaleeth's reaction. "Ah, knew that'd be worth it. Well, good luck on whatever in Oblivion y'all are doin' here. I need to get to unloadin' cargo. Ah, but who knows, maybe we'll get a drink together before we set sail?" She commented, not awaiting a response before she walked off.
