Hello and welcome to Inside The Beltway, a Politics and Co. roleplay set in the modern United States. The starting date is January 20th 2017 - you know exactly why. Yes, the Annoying Orange Mr. Trump has just been elected president. It's gonna make for a much more interesting scenario.

So how's this one gonna work?

The first IC post will be written by me detailing the 2016 election results. Afterwards, I expect characters to trickle in. Senators, representatives, lobbyists, their chiefs of staff, that's all good. Unless there is exceeding popular demand, I will keep the executive closed. Where needed, I will play the President. Maybe the Vice President too, but I'd prefer to duo that with Byrd.

Now of course this shit isn't going in real time. I currently envision this working as building a world in which many stories can take place. Whether we're talking about legislation passing, personal conflict, political arm-twisting, foreign crises, involvements and affairs with characters, and whatnot. Plots/stories involving only a few characters, especially those characterised as side plots can go in their own timeframe, but that's of course dependent on what exactly it is. If you're having loads of skin contact and are about to fade to black or a few side characters having a night out, I won't bitch about it taking long. However, if you have a group of, say, three senators discussing a plan of action before rejoining the rest I might PM the people involved or ping them elsewhere. (Discord server?)

Furthermore, I would like to set the time for everyone at the same date sometimes when it suits everyone. Think of it like episodes in a show.

So now we know that--
I'm gonna go get a pizza. And you're gonna make characters. And ask me questions here.

So if I understand you, the last emperor of America Trump and his staff are off limits? Because I was thinking of making a Chief Of Staff or Press Secretary for him.

If that's the case, I might make him a Democrat or a senator's aside or something, I just had a fun idea for a character that worked best as someone visible in Trump's Whitehouse.

@Roosan Again if there's a tonne of people who want to buzz around the White House it's on limits. But I like the idea of press secretary or chief of staff. Feel free to make a character and PM it to me.

Name: James Priest

Age: 53

Appearance:

Party: Democrat, Leader of the Blue Dog Coalition

Current Position: Congressman, TN 5th District

State: Tennessee

Bio:

James Priest was born and raised in Nashville, Tennessee to a middle class family. Priest attended Vanderbilt, graduating with an undergraduate degree in History followed by a JD at Vanderbilt Law. After passing the Tennessee Bar, he worked as a civil attorney in the Nashville law firm of Johnson & Hardy. After a successful tenure, where he made partner, Priest resigned from the law firm and was elected District Attorney of 20th Judicial District in the year 2000.

As District Attorney, James Priest was responsible for prosecuting all criminal cases in Nashville and Davidson County. He had an eight-year record of solid and scandal-free stewardship of the DA's office. Veering more on the side of rehabilitation instead of punishment, Priest was criticized for being soft on criminals and recidivist. He barely won reelection to the post in 2004.

After Congressman Cooper Celement resigned from his seat to run, and lose, the race for a Senate seat in 2008, Priest opted to not seek a third term and instead announced his intentions to run for the open Congressional seat. Though Tennessee is a red state as a whole, the 5th Congressional District is heavily democratic. Priest's opponent in the Democratic primary was outgoing Nashville-Davidson Sheriff Edmund Shivers. Each man charged the other with being soft on crime and more liberal than the other in a nasty primary that saw Priest take the victory by just five percentage points. Priest won the November general election in a runaway, 70 to 30 against a Republican who served on the Nashville city council.

Since 2008, Priest has served as one of Congress' few conservative Democrats. He serves on the House Foreign Affairs Committee. As someone not completely in line with the House minority leadership, he has little power within his own party's leadership structure, but is able to use the other Blue Dog Democrats he leads to effectively cross the aisle and work with Republicans and fellow Southerners.

Past Positions:

Private Lawyer (1988-2000)
District Attorney (2000-2008)
US Congressman (2008-Present)

I started writing Barnett's military career before leaving the house. I am on my cell now and will complete it when I get home. He flew AH-1 in Grenada, UH-60 in Panama and AH-60 in Desert Storm, finishing up as a Major.

@GuntherGlad to see you're on board! Can't he remain an AH-1 pilot in Panam and an AH-64 pilot in Desert Storm though?

This is incredibly interesting.
If I may ask, (I'm not sure if this has been adressed yet, but I can't find anything about it), but can I create my own character, or must it be an actual person.

One last question, should we post the CS in here and if you approve of it then we post it in the Characters tab, or should we just post it in the Characters tab right off?
