Your recipe kind of reminds me of how I cook ham using Sprite instead of water.

I cook pork shoulders by first soaking them in brine....cause salt.Then I cover them in a salt based rub.I throw them in the oven at 225 for 8-12 hours. Cause....mmmmmm.
