Welcome to the officially official OOC for this Rp. Just incase anyone is browing and interested in possibly applying I will leave alot of the IC lore shite below.
Specifically you are members of the Marines Exemplar. One of the hallowed Chapters of the Astartes Praeses. Those twenty august chapters whose sole vigil and duty is to guard the Eye of Terror, and prevent the hellish denizens within from attempting another foolhardy crusade into realspace. Even more so than other Space marines your purpose is to combat the arch enemy. Either taking the fight directly to them or wiping out any attempt to spread their foul influence into the Imperium.
But now The 13th Black Crusade of Abaddon the Despoiler has begun in 999.M41 the largest mobilization of both Imperial and Chaotic forces seen in the Milky Way Galaxy since the Horus Heresy was witnessed. From the eye of terror spilt the forces of chaos is such legion as to throw even the carefully prepared Imperial defence into dissarray and panick.
Currently the conflict is at something of a stalemate. After the initial chaos offensive the imperial forces were pushed back on nearly all fronts. Coupled with sudden spike in Ork Waaagh and pirate Kroosades, and a disturbing number of Tyranid splinter fleets making their presence known and the ever opportunistic and cruel Dark Eldar quick to sieze any opportunity and pounce upon a distracted foe.... Suffice to say things around the Eye of terror are not pleasant. The word Clusterfuck is perhaps the most fitting descriptor.
However surprised the Imperium was by the onslaught of threats from so many angles., it not caught with its pants around its proverbial ankles. The Imperium had it's own legions of warriors in place to push back against this threat and push back they did. Holding Chaos and the xenos at bay long enough as Imperial forces across the galaxy rallied themselves and reinforced in a show of strength ground the enemy advance to a halt on most worlds. To add to this the Imperium has found surprising help from the Xenos races of the Eldar and Necrons who have begun harassing ork and Chaos threats. While not allies in the slightest sense, the Imperium for the time will not look such a horse in the mouth, And is giving both xenos races plenty of room to continue.... whatever it is they are doing. For the time being at least there is stability. Or at least as much stability as can be hoped for during a Black Crusade.
One of the many military elements to be deployed to the beligured regions sorrounding the Eye are nearly nine full companies of the hallowed Space Marine chapter 'Marines Exemplar'. To support these companies are of course numerous auxiliiary personal. Elements of the chapters librarium, Recluisiary and the armoury of the techmarines have been plucked for the finest individuals and wargear available to the chapter. The chapters Initiates of the tenth company are also called to honourable service. Now more than ever good men will be needed to replace the soon to be vacant ranks of the chapters fallen. But they will not accept any man into their number who cannot first prove himself an asset to the chapter and to the Imperium. Proved worth the time and resources put into sculpting him into an angel of Death incarnate. Black Crusade or no, corners will not be cut and standards will not slip in the training and selection of recruits. Such things can only lead to ruin for the chapter in the long term.
And before anyone asks. No, you cannot be from another chapter, no you cannot be a full fledged space marine and no you can't be an ork or a tau or a space wolf or whatever the hell else it is I am inevitably going to be asked about. You are playing scout marines of the Marines Exemplar chapter.
Also for anyone interested here is a link to the wiki page for the Marines Exemplar. there isn't much written about them cannon wise which is exactly why I picked them for this RP. They have no established personality quirks or customs to be played around that are known. Some of these details can be made up. Small ceremonies, a figure of speech unique to the chapter maybe. All things the players are free to talk about.

The Imperium has been collecting resources and manpower and is finally read to take the fight back and force the Arch-enemy on the defensive. Cadia is still a hellhole in the firm grasp of the Defilers talons and unfortunately not much can be done about it yet. Other bastions of chaos need to be weakened or destroyed so the Imperium can reroute as many resources as possible to the beligured fortress world. And be secure in the knowledge that they cannot be counter assaulted from any neighbouring systems and strongholds.
This is where the Marines Exemplar come in. After the disheartening lose of their chapter master following participation in a unsuccessful plan of attack made by Logan Grimnar of the Space Wolves. The chapter has separated itself from the command of any other chapter or Imperial force and taken to managing their own deployments and strategies.
Currently the Chapter, under the command of its most veteran captain has taken to engaging the enemy wherever it can. Weakening defenses and answering calls of aid from worlds in need. The only people it volunteers to obey and work under is the wider collective that is Imperial High command of the sector. They are now highly resentful of placing themselves and their assests under anyone's direct control.
The acting chapter master has decided on his own plans. Currently that means deploying the entirety of the Fifth company to the besieged world of Onara. Aiding the Imperial forces of the world struggling against this most recent incursion of the arch-enemy. It is a Mid grade Imperial world. A few billion souls inhabit its surface and it was once thought to be a superb example of Imperial progress and way of life flourishing despite proximity to the Eye of Terror. Unfortunately nothing so close to the Eye can escape unscathed during a Black Crusade of this magnitude.
The world itself is of some minor strategic value, being well industrialized and having become a staging point for Several Imperial guard divisions and the Naval ships needed to transport and escort them. It's position in space is very important and raises itrs strategic value immensely, A natural staging and resting point close to many other Imperial and chaos controlled systems alike. The Imperium was planning to use it as a launching point in their new offensive plan. Either the chaos forces new this and acted first to disrupt Imperial command's plan. Or they were thinking the exact same thing. And wanted the world for themselves.
The assault on the world was the first committed by Chaos forces in some weeks, the standstill between the two titanic and opposed forces that seemed almost to drag on unbearably long across the sector was now being fractured by small pushes like this from both sides. One of the planet's three continents all but collapsed and the local PDF and station Imperial guard forces scattered or submitted to new and dark masters. Millions became refugees and millions more chafe and suffer as slaves of chaos. The Marines Exemplar are tasked with aiding the Imperial cause however it can on Onara. Unfortunately the chapter has spread itself thin reinforcing other fronts and theatres throughout the sector and can only commit a single company to this particular endeavor. But acting Chapter master Raoul does recognize the strategic importance of this world and the potential implications such a defeat could have in permanently halting a major offensive push and seriously damaging military morale.
The hope is that the presence of A hardened battle company and a seasoned veteran Captain can help turn the tide in the imperial favour. Rumours of course of chaos space marines participating in butchery and slaughter on the Onara's surface are also cause enough for the Imperium to deploy its own counter measures to even the battlefield as much as possible.
