The ancient history of Monster and Man was forgotten long ago, scattered amongst the sands of time, and replaced by fairy tales or mythology. The magic in the world has since been lost in the wake of technology. Stories of spell casting wizards, fire breathing dragons, treacherous dungeons, and shambling skeleton hordes are shared to children through colorful books and video games. So much of humanity has filled the earth, that nobody knows there was ever a time when things were different. Everyday life goes on like normal, or what is considered normal, just as is expected.
It's Friday morning and your school recently announced a field trip for select classes to a near by mountain located far north of your town that is known to be a long dormant volcano, with a sizable lake not to far from its base. The lake itself is a great place for picnicking, as well as observing some of the unique geological formations. A perfect environment for education filled outdoor activities. The mountain, on the other hand, is home to many legends and disappearances. "They say that those who climb the mountain...never return." Fliers have been posted all around the school, setting the departure date for today. 'TRIP TO LAKE EBOTT!!! Parental Permission Required.' Don't forget, because your class made the list.
Your SOUL is the very culmination of your being. In your heart, it directs you through life and empowers you to achieve your goals, filling you with a firmness of purpose. There are seven SOUL types, one per person of course. It marks the key characteristics of who you are and how you will likely deal with most situations. However your SOUL only makes up a fraction of who you choose to be. For example, someone with a SOUL of kindness may not always be kind. But kindness will always be in them. One way or another your personality must have some semblance to these characteristics. Each SOUL will be classified by a color and then by it's potential characteristics. We all have an equal potential for both strength and weakness.
♥ Patience - Someone who wont be angered or discouraged by delays, annoyances, or obstacles and instead shows tolerance. "Let's wait and see what happens." Patience can be a refusal to act or move forward.
♥ Integrity - Someone who will take the high ground in the worst of scenarios, staying honest and having strong moral principles. "We shouldn't intrude..." Integrity can be taken advantage of by dishonesty.
♥ Bravery - Someone who more often than not shows courage and resilience even in the face of peril, with a willingness to confront danger, uncertainty, and the possibility of death. "We'll get them before they get us!" Bravery can be displaced by foolishness.
♥ Kindness - Someone who tends to be generous and friendly when others might not, staying considerate and warm when possible. "Could we try talking to them?" Kindness can be used as a weakness.
♥ Perseverance - Someone who wont let complexity or difficulty get the better of them when they have a set goal in mind, remaining persistent when success is in their reach. "If it's possible...we just need to try harder." Perseverance can be diffused by uncertainty.
♥ Justice - Someone who believes in fairness, giving impartial judgement towards what they know to be right and wrong. "If we're gonna take it, we gotta earn it." Justice can be blind to circumstance.
♥ Determination - Someone who will remain resolute even when the odds of success seem impossible, never giving up, never letting in, firm to the purpose that they have set for themselves. "No turning back now..." Determination can be stubbornness.
What To Expect
If you want a fresh experience, filled with the unexpected, then I'll give you the quick draft with no spoilers. You are a human child between the ages of 9 and 17. Keeping in mind the things I explained about SOULs earlier, make your character and just be ready to jump in with an open mind and a thirst for adventure. If you want to know the basics of what your getting yourself into, keep reading what to expect.
Let's say you have never heard of undertale or perhaps have never really been interested in it as a game. I'll give you a brief idea of what to expect from this roleplay. Think back to all the traditional rpg's you ever played as a kid. The ones based in the fantasy realm like dungeons and dragons. Well this roleplay takes place in a world where all those things existed, more or less. Fantasy creature like ogres, goblins, and ghouls DID once share the earth with humans. But after a great war, all the dragons, fairies, and talking woodland creatures were sealed away deep underground to be forgotten and never heard from again. What little recorded history humans had of monsters was either destroyed to prevent anyone undoing the seal, or loosely turned into the myths of today. So when mom tells you about the boogeyman or the tooth fairy, there's a little tiny fraction of truth that nobody really knows about to that story.
If you HAVE heard of undertale and are familiar with the story, then let me explain whats different about this version of it. Originally, horrortale takes place in the normal undertale universe after a neutral run. Supposedly, all hope has been drained from the underworld after having lost their king and the six souls, and replaced with a desperation for survival and freedom that has driven many to madness. What little faith the monsters had in humanity has dwindled into almost nothing, making the underworld a more dangerous place for any humans that entered after Frisk. MY version of Horrortale takes after that, only there are several key differences that will come to light as the story progresses. One notable fact here is there was never a Frisk or a Chara. If you aren't into seeing beloved undertale characters portrayed differently than the canon, and instead with a more dark and creepy undertone, then you might not want to be here. Every main character will still have the fundamental traits that makes them who they are. But it may be heavily influenced by the gruesome reality of being forced beneath the underground by humans for millennia.
