[OOC] Camp Wachata: Summer Fun For Everyone!

Camp Wachata was founded in 1975 in the American Northwest. Camp Wachata was used as a camp for girls aged 15 to 19, at the time. With a scenic lake, a flowing river, and a sleepy forest, the camp was meant to be a place for girls to spend their summers learning new hobbies, being taught skills, and creating lasting friendships. However, it wouldn't take long for tragedy to strike. In the summer of 1979, one of the camp counselors and one of the campers were found dead. Their bodies were mangled and obviously hidden. The culprit of the murder was never found. While many believed it to be a bear attack, especially as time went on as no evidence was found, the camp was still closed down indefinitely.

Recently reopened, and renovated in the 1990s, Camp Wachata has since experienced a revival. Now accepting both girls and boys, and focusing on creating the same lasting skills and friendships the old Camp did, the camp's attendance has flourished. Accepting an age group from 15 to 19 as campers, their average attendance has been well into the hundreds. However, despite the happy environment, rumors and ghost stories are abound of the old tragedy. Stories about how you can see the ghost of the dead camper walking across the foggy lake, early in the morning. Stories about how if you stay up too late, the old camp counselor will bang on your walls. But, that's all just stories. Nothing creepy or scary ever happens at Camp Wachata.

The year is now 2015, and Camp Wachata has been going steady for about 20 years now. Fishing, archery, boating, white water rapid riding, hiking, bird watching, and meeting new people are only a few of the activities that Camp Wachata has. With arms wide open, Camp Wachata welcomes all types of new faces, hoping to make sure the campers have the best summers of their life!

Hi, everyone! I'm looking into making 'Camp Wachata' a fun thread. The basis of the thread is a horror/romance/slice of life narrative. The basis of the plot is focused around the campers, camp counselors, and the past of the camp.

I place a high emphasis on player freedom, and allowing the character's actions to make actual impacts. I hope you decide to join!

I'd like to keep a healthy balance between the campers and counselors. Ideally, this would mean more campers than counselors. Places around Camp Wachata!

The Lake - Cuckoo Lake is one of the most popular attractions on Camp Wachata. A huge lake that boasts a thriving ecosystem of perch, bass, and massive catfish! Boating, fishing, swimming, and water sports are the main activities around the lake.

The Girl's Campground - The Girl's Campground is located on the South side of the lake. Compromised of about 5 Cabins, each one holding about 12 girls. The girl's cabins are known for being the only cabins (Beside the Campmaster's cabin) that have air conditioning. Being the campground of the original camp, most of the scary stories and rumors have to deal with the area around the Girl's Campground, making it a creepy place at night. The girl's Counselors are expected to room inside the cabins.

The Boy's Campground - The Boy's Campgrounds are located on the Northeast side of the lake. Compromised of about 5 cabins, though these ones hold about 16 each. The boy's cabins are newly built, and much better looking than the girl's cabins. However, no AC, and bathhouse's that have a habit of breaking, make the Boy's side fairly unpopular with their residents. The boy's Counselors are expected to room inside the cabins.

The Lookout Mountains - The campground itself sits snugly inside one of the valleys of this mountain range. Keeping all kinds of creatures, it's normally advised to stay on the trails, not go after dark, and always let someone know you are hiking. Filled with amazing vistas of the whole area, the Lookout Mountains drive home the point of how far away Wachata is from civilization.

The Canteen - Located on the North side of the lake, The Canteen is where the campers have their meals, meet for any type of camp-wide meeting, and where counselors can often meet to plan activities. Outside of The Canteen hall is picnic tables, basketball courts, an area for volleyball, and more than a few shady trees.

The Fields - The Fields is used for activities that aren't accommodated for around the lake. Archery is the main activity practiced here, but the Fields are available for anything. A leveled field, along with a shed that holds a lot of sporting equipment, provides an apt place for leisure time.

The Laundry - A relatively new addition to Camp Wachata, a long building located on the North side of the lake that houses a couple dozen washing machines and dryers. Meant for students and the counselors to wash their clothes.

Robert's Forest - The forest that covers a large portion of valley in which Camp Wachata resides. Students mostly explore it, which counselors begrudgingly allow, in order to get away from camp. Surprisingly, unlike the mountain range, Robert's Forest doesn't have a lot residing in it, besides the occasional squirrel. Small ponds, beautiful trees, and huge boulders dot the landscape of Robert's Forest.

The Gym - Another relatively new building. A small building, barely larger than a shed, houses the limited gym equipment the camp possesses. While the building is small, it is well made, and air conditioned. Unsurprisingly, the gym doesn't see much use by the campground.

The Obstacle Courses - Using part of the mountains, and The Fields, the Obstacle Courses are probably one of the more fun attractions at camp. Ziplines, jungle gyms, rock climbing walls, hurdles, and various other equipment used to create a fun course for campers to run.

The Wiki Wiki Fire Ring - The sitting area that is located slightly off camp grounds, to the West of the lake. This area is used to light bonfires, and gather students at night. Most of the time, however, counselors will take their campers here to tell ghost stories over a much smaller fire.

The Lodge - Used by the Campmaster, the camp nurse, and other officials of the camp. Mainly used as an office space, and storage area.

The Piers - Four piers, one for each cardinal direction of the lake, jut out onto the Lake, each one holding a couple of the paddle boats, and kayaks that the camp uses.

The White Tooth River - A river the flows through a part of the campground, mostly residing in Robert's Forest. The more vicious parts of the river are used for white water rapid riding, while the calmer spots are popular amongst the campgrounds for fishing and hanging out.

The Camper Rec Room - An area that is almost strictly for the campers. Foosball, a movie room, and plenty of other things to enjoy, the Rec Room is more of a medium sized building. While there might be a handful of camp counselors in it, most of the time the building is populated mainly by campers. A popular hang out spot that sports multiple rooms, and central heat and air, the Rec Room is definitely one of the most camper-popular spots on the campgrounds.

The Old Cabins - Located to on the East side of the lake, tucked back farther away from the lake, is the Old cabins. These cabins are just as old as the girl's cabins, however most are in severe disrepair. The ones that haven't fallen down, are likely to fall down in short time. This area is off limits to both the counselors and the campers, citing the danger of the potentially collapsing buildings. However, that doesn't stop the occasional group of campers sneaking to the cabins to spend a night. If one were to go by the ghost stories, more tragedies happened here than one could count. Thankfully, practically all of them are fake. However, the only story that has any true holding, is one of the cabins that is said to be the cabin of the slain camper and counselor. A common dare is to dare some of your friends to spend a night in the place, and see if they survive. Nothing serious ever seems to happen. At least, nothing campers will say.

Name : Caleb Holderson

Items (Special things your character brought to camp) (optional) : A camera that he's had since he's been a counselor at Camp Wachata. Caleb doesn't use it often, but normally carries it all the time. Normally, he's only spotted snapping a picture at particular scenic views, or if something special happens. Outside of that, no one else sees him use it.

Personality (optional) : Caleb is quiet, and thoughtful. Despite being one of the more mild counselors, Caleb has no problem meeting new people or making friends. Easy to talk to, although one shouldn't expect a wild time with Caleb. Overall, Caleb does his best to be helpful to the campers.

Short History (optional) : Caleb moved to a city not far from Camp Wachata for college. Now, every summer, Caleb works at the camp. It gets him away from the city, and his studies, and out into the fresh air of the camp.

Shayne Kowalski

Name : Shayne Kowalski

Items (Special things your character brought to camp) (optional) : The only thing, besides clothes and necessities, that Shayne brought to the camp is an old acoustic guitar. The guitar was given to her by her step-father when she was 14. Although she still hasn't exactly learned how to play the right way, she's taken the chance to spend her time at summer camp to learn it.

Personality (optional) : Shayne typically has a go with the flow type of attitude. The only main exception to this is her fear of disappointing others, and failing -- often causing her to fail when the pressure is on her. She is constantly paranoid of messing something up. Shayne is anxious and shows a tendency to blame herself when things go wrong. Whenever she feels she has made a mistake, Shayne will often become quiet, and will keep her eyes down to the ground.

Besides these things, Shayne is often front and center when it comes to social activites, especially sports and outdoor activites. Shayne is the kind of the student that gets top marks, starts on any sport team she's on, yet never acts like it. She's would be an awesome role model, except for how she always misses the winning goal and blanks on the tough questions. She can be a leader when no one else steps up, but overall Shayne's weaknesses prevent her from achieving what she truly could.

Short History (optional) : Shayne was raised by her mother and her step-father, having her biological father leave when she was very young. Honor roll student, and sports star, at school, Shayne was often friends with a lot of people. However, her step-father found a new job in a city close to Camp Wachata, forcing the family to move. This is her first summer in her new home, and in order to make friends, Shayne's parents paid for summer camp. Eager, yet catious, Shayne takes the first steps into her new world.

Name: Nico Laird

Appearance: With pale skin and jet black hair coupled with her dark makeup many would mistake Nico as a goth. Her eyes are a piercing blue, contrasting heavily with the darker tones of her appearance. She can often be seen wearing band tees and military boots coupled with an old German military jacket she bought from an online surplus store a year or so ago. Probably the least noticeable but most shocking part of her appearance are the lines of self harm that pattern the tops of her wrists. She keeps these hidden at almost all times, whether it be through a jacket or a wristband.

She's planned to get a tattoo for years but due to disapproval from her parents and a lack of money she has been unable to. As for piercings, that's a different story. Her ears are pierced, although she hardly ever wears earrings. She does however wear her nose piercing, which goes through her right nostril.

Items: a portable cassette player coupled with a few cassettes she's picked up from gigs and music stores over the years.

Personality: Nico could be described as introverted but that's not really doing justice to her actual personality. While she can come off as quiet at first, she can be rather loud after getting to know people or just interacting with new people while people she knows are around. The thing she loves most in the world is music, when listening to a song she loves she can often be seen dancing and singing along, although this is a rare occasion as her music taste is a little more...refined than what is played on the radio. By which I mean she's a hipster.

However, everything is not all bright with Nico. She has a history of self harm stemming from her time in highschool, something which she is less eager to show and talk about. Furthermore, she often drinks heavily when there's a party and it's likely that she'll either be curled up in the feral position almost being sick or just plain asleep by the end of the night.

Also if you call her a goth or an emo or anything similar you are likely to get an eye roll and the cold shoulder.

Short History: Nico was born in Ontario, Canada to possibly the strangest pair of parents someone could ask for. Her father was the former lead guitarist for an unsuccesful punk band turned architect and her mother was a preppy popular girl turned real estate agent. It's fair to say her upbringing was a bit of a war between the cliques, of which her dad obviously won.

However, due to her rather gothic appearance growing up she would often be bullied in highschool. Bullying which started out small and just began growing and growing until it led Nico to self harm. At this point her parents were in despair, it was only when her mother was offered a job in the states that life seemed to turn good again.

To make sure that Nico makes friends and starts to fit in with American culture they sent her to a summer camp, something which Nico is less than happy with.

Appearance:

Items: A talisman inside of silk purple pouch. This talisman was given to him by his maternal grandmother who was very close to a shaman, made specifically for him before she left Korea right after the independence following the World War 2. The shaman (Mu-Dang) said she inscribed this from the local god of a river (Nak-Dong) to grant him a protection against evil spirits. Ethan is not really sure if it works or if any of the story told by his grandmother is true.

Personality: Collective and calm but he is only like this because what he saw so far is typical summer camp tropes. He is easily scared and particularly fearful of centipede or other many-legged bugs.

Short History: Well-groomed but nerdy Korean University student who attended Mathematics and Statistics program and going into an education program. He is the third generation immigrant but quite proud of his grandparents' birthplace.

It's not done yet, as I need to fill in the appearance and decide what he will be covering in terms of activity. Seems like studying in summer camp is not that of attractive choice for teeangers I guess.

Personality (optional): Mya's sense of humor, aka sarcasm and innuendos, is often interpreted as bitchyness. She has few close friends, as only a select few can keep up with, and tolerate, her quick wit. She's honestly very sweet though and if you stick around long enough to get to know her it's most likely a lifelong friendship. Mya tries to stay upbeat with a glass is half full kind of attitude and if you find her without her smile you know it's been an extremely rough day.

Short History (optional): Mya's mom died in a car accident when she was 2. She's been raised by her dad. Her older brother, though he's only 2 years older than she, has done his best to help out. She knows it's hard on them having to deal with a teenage girl. And hell, it's hard on her living in a house with 2 guys. That's why she started coming to camp. Give them a break, give herself a break. Now on her second year at Camp Wachata, Mya is excited to see what kind of adventure this summer holds

As far as clothing, Ana tends to wear comfy gym shorts, typically black and reaching a few inches above her knees. She is also rarely seen without her favorite hoodie, a warm, white garment that she wears near-religiously. Beneath the hoodie she typically wears one of many tank tops. For footwear, she typically wears a pair of beat up black sneakers, which are almost never tied. She is also fond of wearing a red baseball cap. Overall, her appearance is a bit odd, and fits to the fact that she can never quite determine if she's feeling too hot or too cold.

Ana is positively terrified of being out on the water, and will steadfastly refuse any invitation to enter a boat, or even to put her feet in the water. Appearance: Well kept black hair and thick framed black/brown retro-wingtip glasses, he looks like a stereotypical Asian nerd. He wears button down shirts of white or off-white colors that he ironed to his high standard. He wears clean jeans and casual leather cognac colored shoes.

Items: A talisman inside of silk purple pouch. This talisman was given to him by his maternal grandmother who was very close to a shaman, made specifically for him before she left Korea right after the independence following the World War 2. The shaman (Mu-Dang) said she inscribed this from the local god of a river (Nak-Dong) to grant him a protection against evil spirits. Ethan is not really sure if it works or if any of the story told by his grandmother is true.

Personality: Collective and calm but he is only like this because what he saw so far is typical summer camp tropes. He is easily scared and particularly fearful of centipede or other many-legged bugs.

Short History: Well-groomed but nerdy Korean University student who attended Mathematics and Statistics program and going into an education program. I'm pretty sure you can't. The closest you can get is deleting all the text when you go into edit mode, and just leaving a period mark in it's place.

Items (Special things your character brought to camp) (optional) : A large bag of chocolates, and various other sweets. A book full of sudoku and picross puzzles. A black binder with tabs for a variety of subjects and lots of paper. Various pencils, from 2h to 6B.

Personality (optional) : Markus Roe is a guy who loves to have fun, in his own ways. He enjoys laying about, reading and doing various problems in his head or with his hands. He considers himself pretty lucky as well. Markus tends to be pretty open to social contact, initiating most conversations or group events. He's also terrible with the other sex, considering he mostly talks to other guys. He's also not too strong physically, and he has decent looks.

Short History (optional) : Markus was born to a moderately rich family, where he learnt the various jobs and tasks required to take on his father's business. Taking an interest in academics much to his father's delight, He found a love for knowledge. In earlier years he went to a smaller less open summer camp called camp shady brook. Sadly, the old camp was boring for a 15 year old, and asking his father to change summer camps wasn't too much of a difficulty.
